Worcesters: Main camping area

General

  • Low-key farm site surrounded by orchards and woodlands
  • A 10-minute drive from Canterbury; Whitstable 20 minutes
  • Fresh home-grown produce sold on site; just off the A2

The people who run Worcesters describe it as 'a little slice of heaven' – and if you like a combination of Kentish countryside, farm animals and fresh local produce, plus easy access to the coast, you could easily end up sharing that opinion.

Worcesters is located just off the A2 road 10 minutes' drive outside of Canterbury and 20 minutes from the coast at Whitstable. There's a lot of greenery around, as the site is set among old Worcester pearmain orchards and is adjacent to an ancient woodland. When not relaxing in the main site area, the trees can sort you with many hours of amusement, especially if you have kids who want to build dens or fancy a cool afternoon nap in a hammock.

This is a dog-friendly site that's home to several other animals, including free-range hens, geese, goats and pigs. Fresh home-grown produce will be available depending on when you’re staying, with eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes and salads frequently in stock. For cooking, open fires and barbecues are allowed here in the designated areas.

Worcesters has very basic amenities, including a fresh water standpipe and a simple composting toilet. A shower and washing machine may be available in your hosts' house by arrangement.

Please note

This park has no on-site shower facilities.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

A charge of £2.00 ($3.87) applies for the use of the shower.

Brilliant stay, if you want to get away from normal life for a bit then I highly recommend Worcesters. The surroundings were so peaceful, you only have to walk a few feet and you're in an idyllic forest. The animals are a lovely bonus if you have children. The owner made us feel very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. Our son absolutely loved it and made friends with the owners house guests, he was so happy when Holly took him to feed the chickens grass and see the animals! Would definitely stay again as we didn't get to stay a second night due to worry about lightening but looking forward to going back!

Beautiful site set among an old orchard with plenty of space.A perfect rural setting.
The site is bordered with an ancient woodland which was absolutely stunning.
Loved the chickens, they are funny. So nice to see them having such a good life.

So what if the toilet is basic..? You're camping in the countryside. What do people expect ?

Thank you so much! We had a lovely stay!
Such a peaceful little campsite and a really quick easy drive to both Whitstable and Canterbury for days out. We spent the day on Whitstable beach before staying at the campsite in the evening, due to the beautiful seaside sunset we arrived at the campsite a little later than expected but the owners were very flexible so there was no rush or pressure to be there at a certain time!

The owners were so friendly and welcoming - loved chatting to them about all the animals - chickens especially! The fresh eggs available from the campsite were absolutely delicious!

The washroom/ shower is right back to basics - the proper camping experience alongside nature - this campsite isn't for people who prefer glamping! However, the compost toilet is great for the environment which we liked!

We had the option to walk round the boundary of the property to look at all the animals and there was also a footpath at the back of the campsite leading into the woods for a long walk and lots of exploring!

    Disliked:

The compost toilet was a little full the last day we were there so would've preferred if it was emptied more regularly perhaps?

I have no problem with composting toilets, but this one was on the basic side. Having to call the owner to open the gate is a faff. Bit pricey for what you get - £10/adult and £5/child is £30/night for basically some grass and a tap...

From the manager...

Hi, thank you for your review, your points are all valid.
This is our first year on this farm and the list of jobs to do is pretty relentless, I absolutely take on board that the composting toilet is very basic. No chance of improving that this season but will endeavour to upgrade somehow for next season.
The locking gates are a faff, I agree, but for many of the campers and those of us living here they provide a level of security that is welcomed (we have had the pikey visitors drive straight in and eye up the place already!).

    Please provide normal toilet.

From the manager...

Hi
I am afraid the restrictions of country life mean that connecting a toilet anywhere near the camping area to the septic tank 250 yards away is not an option, the toilet block would require planning permission and then the site would need planning permission too. This is our first year at the farm and the camping is a summer add-on, there's no chance of a flushing toilet in the foreseeable future.
