  • Motorhome pitches in Cumbria's gorgeous Eden Valley
  • A five-minute drive to the Eden Valley Railway and Kirkby Stephen
  • Pub with darts and well-stocked bar
Set up base on the banks of Swindale beck with a stay at The Inn At Brough. Breaks at this well-maintained site begin in the small Cumbria market town of Brough, around five minutes’ drive north of Kirkby Stephen and its popular high street. The motorhome pitches here are well located for walks within the surrounding Eden Valley or just a little further afield in the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks or the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Several other days out aren’t far off either, including wanders by Hadrian’s Wall, rides on the Eden Valley Railway and visits to places like Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum. Guests staying at The Inn At Brough are within walking distance of amenities such as a local bus stop and an independent café serving drinks and light bites. On top of that, a farmers' market is held here in the Memorial Hall on the third Saturday of every month. Just to the south, plenty of pubs and restaurants await in Kirkby Stephen, just a short drive away from site.

Local attractions

Brace yourself for castles, heritage railways and waterfalls… from here, Eden Valley Railway (five minutes’ drive) will take you on a heritage train journey, while the Stainmore Railway Company (10 minutes) has all the buzz of a heritage steam railway station and the Cumbria Classic Coaches (15 minutes) specialise in classic coach trips around the countryside instead. Fortresses will add another load of nostalgia to your break, with the ruined Brough Castle (10 minutes’ walk) or the medieval Barnard Castle (20 minutes' drive) and Penrith Castle (half an hour) being some of your immediate options. Otherwise, the Bowes Museum (20 minutes) has an impressive collection of art in a fine piece of architecture. Who knew walks could be historic too? With the Hadrian’s Wall (an hour) in the countryside, you could walk for miles alongside a Roman barricade. Otherwise, some splendid scenery is guaranteed on a walk around the High Force Waterfall (35 minutes) in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Unpowered gravel motorhome site

Liked: You could find a flat area and in village with a few shops me small bar

Disliked: Just a bit of gravel, bathroom available but dirty and old, ended up wild camping on the moors for free, didn’t stay the night and no refund available

Unpowered gravel motorhome site

Liked: Friendly staff, ease of booking and access etc. Facilities were adequate. Only pitched up the camper van, so can't really comment on anything about the pub itself.

Unpowered gravel motorhome site

Liked: Easy to find & access very simple and spacious. Hotel not run as one just a b& b so no bar or restaurant available. Ok if you just want to pull over & sleep somewhere quiet.

Disliked: No facilities not even a bar !

Unpowered gravel motorhome site

Liked: The staff were really friendly and helpful. Even though evening food was not being served at the Inn, the staff recommended and directed us to the Bay Horse at Wonton, only 2.5 miles away. Having access to toilet and shower facilities through the night, was really useful. View of the hills, while parked up, was a beautiful way to wake up in the morning.

Unpowered gravel motorhome site

Liked: Plenty of hot water, plenty of room in car park, staff friendly. Local convenience shop handy. Nice views and walks

Disliked: Toilet doesn’t flush easily. Toilet paper and soap ran out. Bins not emptied. It’s just a car park so expensive compared to other sites with far superior facilities
