What customers say

Pods sparkling clean, toasty underfloor heating & peaceful rural views. Hosts super friendly, farm tours a hit with kids. Playground & animals loved by families. Minor grumbles: induction hob tricky, bunks tight for bigger kids.

Herdwick Hideaway camping pod

Liked What a beautiful little campsite, perfect camping pods with a shower room, toilet, bunk beds for the kids and a really comfortable double bed. The campsite is really clean, beautiful views, good location, there is a little park, honesty shop and a pool table. Kids loved the animals around the campsite. Would definitely recommend.

Herdwick Hideaway camping pod

Liked The pod and its location were really very good. We found it to be very clean and very well maintained. The fire pit was brilliant, the play area for the children was great. The hosts were very friendly and even took time to let the children help to feed the Emu.

Local attractions

You can start exploring the Lake District right from the farm gates – walking trails take you out for riverside strolls or walks through the Calder Valley’s ancient oak woods. Calder Abbey and Monks Bridge packhorse bridge are among the historic structures you might find as you wander. Elsewhere in the Lake District, explore its deepest lake, Wast Water and its highest peak, Scafell Pike (both half an hour’s drive). For other ways to explore, there’s a horse riding centre 15 minutes’ drive away or you could take a ride on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (known locally as La’al Ratty) 20 minutes away. For a change of scenery, head to the coast for a day at Seascale beach (15 minutes’ drive) or try St Bees (20 minutes) where you can walk to the top of St Bees Head before cooling off with an ice cream on the beach. Muncaster Castle (20 minutes) and Whitehaven’s harbour and Rum Story (25 minutes) are worth a trip too.
