Avoid the crowds crawling to the southwest coast and breeze your way to Riverside Country Park on the edge of the Northumberland National Park instead… This is a friendly, well-maintained site on the banks of Wooler Water, with plenty to appeal to the whole family: perhaps pottering around the riverbanks and stunning woodland, splashing about in the indoor swimming pool, baiting rods for a bit of fly fishing, or a few rounds of pool in the games room. The park has good essential amenities, including a lounge bar and restaurant with Sky Sports and BT Sports, a shop, launderette, play area and entertainment over peak season. It's also only 10 minutes' uphill walk away from the centre of Wooler, a medieval market town with restaurants, coffee shops and lots to browse around.

  • Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the campground while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.
  • Fishing permits are available from reception at a cost of £14 per session. Fly fishing only is permitted. A maximum of three fish may be taken per session. Unfortunately, many park locations and much of the accommodation is unsuitable for visitors with mobility issues.

Liked Easy access to town. A lovely dog walk along the river. Good value for money. Friendly geese!

Disliked The pitches are snug but for what we paid for it this was fine. There were lots of children on bikes it didn't bother us for one night but probably would have if we had spent alot of time sitting outside our van.

Camping pod

Liked The reason I booked this site was because of the price for a pod per night. As a single, solo traveller I wanted something that wasn’t ridiculously overpriced that I could do with my dog for a couple of nights away.

I’ve never been to Wooler and the location was ideal as I didn’t want to have to drive hours away - I live in Hartlepool. Between the pod, petrol and a little food shop - the 3 days (2 nights) was under £100. I don’t earn a lot of money and this was perfect.

The campsite itself is very well maintained and I felt it was more respectful than how I feel the campsites in Pooley Bridge have become overwhelming in recent years.

I have already re-booked for October and I have recommend this campsite and their pods to my friends. I felt very safe and secure on site which is important. I only used to toilet facilities because I didn’t need to use anything else. Toilets were spotless. The pod was spacious, the simple mini fridge a God-send and a light was all provided - all I needed. I just wanted somewhere I could sit, read my book that was close enough to a village, where I could go during the afternoon to walk my dog.

The staff at reception were very pleasant, helpful and I felt confident if I needed anything all I needed to do was ask.

Overall this was a wonderful site, well priced and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Disliked I’m couldn’t find any faults.

Liked Loved how friendly the site was , and had everything you need there . Would definitely recommend and come again .

Disliked In my opinion the showers and toilets could do with and little TLC and the same with the changing rooms at swimming pool.
Both looking tired and a little run down .

Liked Very clean, and tidy site.
Well maintained.
Level pitches.
Professional, helpful and friendly reception staff.

Disliked Looked forward to an evening meal on our last night.
When we reached the Bar and Grill, we were informed the only menu was pizzas , burgers and a child's menu. There was no chef.
Reluctantly we opted for a pepperoni pizza and fries.
It was tasty, but was over priced.
No dessert menu.

Cycling, fishing, golfing and horse riding fans will also find rich pickings nearby. If you haven’t explored the Northumberland coastline before, you’re in for a treat. Expect atmospheric ancient edifices in spectacular surroundings, such as Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne; seaside villages like Seahouses, where you can jump aboard a sea safari boat to the Farne Islands; and miles and miles of nature reserves and wide sandy beaches. You can follow Hadrian’s Wall westbound from its start point in Wallsend, stopping off at Roman forts in scenic settings as you head in the direction of Carlisle; travel along peaceful country roads to explore the Scottish borders; or south to visit Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden, contemporary gardens with one of the world’s biggest treehouses. For city lights, hit the A1 for an easy ride to Newcastle and Gateshead, both buzzing with culture (try the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art or a gig at the Sage Concert Hall), museums, football, restaurants, nightlife and shops; or head further north for a day trip to the many-splendoured delights of Edinburgh.
