  • Off-grid and adults-only farm site 15 minutes’ drive from Beverley
  • Laurel Vines Vineyard 25 minutes’ walk; Hull 25 minutes’ drive
  • 200-acre conservation project with goats and Highland cows on site
There’s a whole cast of cute characters to meet at Dumble Farm, a family-run farm site in the quiet hamlet of Arram and 15 minutes’ drive from Beverley in East Yorkshire. This is an off-grid and adults-only site where the peaceful, leafy pitches have views of playful goats and cuddly Highland cows grazing nearby – please note that due to the presence of livestock, dogs are not allowed on site. The grass in the camping meadow is kept long to encourage wildlife habitats, with mown pitches surrounded by woodland and paddocks where the cattle and goats graze. You have access to picnic and wildlife areas near the pond, and there’s a way-marked circular walking route around the 200-acre farm – where you can see the owner’s conservation projects in action – as well as paths to the local vineyard and pub. On arrival, you can book various Dumble Farm ‘experiences’ such as meeting and cuddling the Highland cows or foodie events in conjunction with the vineyard. Over the winter months, the on-site Boozy Coo bar is open on Fridays for homemade pizzas and charcuterie boards, plus a pub quiz from 8pm. The on-site coffee courtyard, gift shop and the Boozy Coo bar are also open specifically when the site is busy, and freshly made pizzas are available most weekends. And when you want to park up and forget about driving, the station in Arram (10 minutes’ walk) has services to Beverley, Hull and York as well as the east coast resorts.

Local attractions

There’s masses of hiking to keep you happy: as well as the looped walk around the farm, you can explore the scenic River Hull Valley on foot, take a stroll to Laurel Vines Vineyard (25 minutes’ walk) for tours of the vines and winery along with tastings, or follow sections of the undulating Yorkshire Wolds Way (10 minutes’ drive). To see more local wildlife, Tophill Low Nature Reserve (25 minutes) has hides among its wetlands for hopefully spotting kingfishers and otters. At High Eske Nature Reserve (15 minutes), you also stand a good chance of seeing herons and red kites – occasionally otters hunt in the water too. If an urban day out is calling you, head to Beverley (15 minutes) for the majestic minster, lots of indie shops and a lively music scene in its cosy pubs. Hull (25 minutes) has a huge amount of heritage from its days as a maritime-trading city; there are fascinating – and free – history museums in The Museum Quarter. You can also visit sharks and rays at The Deep aquarium.
