General

  • Grassy pitches on a farm site with views of the Malvern Hills
  • A 10-minute drive to Worcester; 45 minutes to West Midland Safari Park
  • Wildlife, waterside walks and fishing on site; pubs and shops close by

Entertain your wild side a little at Hill Top Farm Orchard Campsite. On a Worcestershire ex-dairy farm with cattle in the surrounding fields and a little brook where you might just be able to spot otters, this is really quite a peaceful wild camping site to check into for some downtime – on grassy pitches with views of the Malvern Hills.

In case you wondering, the site is only 15 minutes’ drive away from the hills themselves, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with ripe walking grounds (or paragliding for those of you who are the adventurous type).

Closer by, though, is a golf course (10 minutes’ drive) and the village of Lower Broadheath. Just a short stroll away (15 minutes to be exact), there village has a post office and a pub where you’ll be able to get some tasty food down you. In the other direction, Hallow (10 minutes’ walk) has another friendly pub and a proper handy store to select your essentials.

As this is a wild camping site, facilities include portaloos and fresh water, but dogs are welcome here and barbecues are permitted by your tent too so that you may finish off the day burger-style if you wish.

As well as the brook (waterside walks, yes please), there’s a carp pond on site. Fishing on the pond is available at an extra cost, so those of you who are keen for your fishing gear to see some action won’t need to stray far.

Beautiful and quiet site. Friendly owners. Portaloos were very clean and there were lots of them. Paddling for the kids in the river, though it is only suitable for a quick paddle and is very muddy. Big field where kids would be able to play.

    Disliked:

Nowhere for washing up but that was obvious from the description.

Fantastic site. Well mown pitch, wonderfully quiet and a super friendly and helpful owner/manager. We pitched next to the little stream that runs along the bottom edge and had a whole corner to ourselves. Easy access into Hallow for pubs and shops. You can even get takeaways delivered right to the gate. We'll definitely be back.

Plenty of space (as for Aug 2022)
Trees along the east/south side of the field provide shadow for better sleep in the morning
    Friendly host

    Disliked:

There is a road along one side of the field, which is a bit noisy. On the bright side, the field is long and it is not a problem to stay far from the road. It could be a downside if there are more guests, but for now it does not matter really.

From the manager...

Hi many thanks for your review, glad you enjoyed your stay unfortunately the main Martley Road is closed and people are using the lane as a cut through. We had hoped it would be re opened for the main holiday period but sadly running behind schedule.

As soon as I arrived we were greeted by Sue, genuinely interested our plans and so helpful with local info on where to grab some food and local pub ( very important 🤣) pub 5 minute walk although we didn’t have time. We were walking up the Malvern hills only 20 minutes away. So peaceful and really nice places to pitch. We pitched left as you come in next to the Brook so the dog enjoyed it and we got to listen to the trickle of water all night! There’s a lake you can fish and can pitch around. Little porter loos dotted around, really clean with night lights in. Staff came round first thing to clean and replenish them. Water points all around for drinking water. BBQs allowed, the only thing that would have been a bonus would be fire pits and log baskets you can rent/buy. We did this break last minute so didn’t get chance to bring. Great info board as you come in with local vets, hospital, takeaway places that deliver to the site and a menu for the local pub! Good prices!

Local attractions

While Malvern Hills is known for its trails and summits, down in the towns, there’s a different buzz. Once a spa village, Great Malvern (20 minutes) has arts and crafts activities, galleries and boutique shops, while in Upton upon Severn (25 minutes), you may hire out a boat for the river Severn.

Looking for a little history too? Well, the birthplace of Sir Edward Elgar at The Firs: Elgar’s Birthplace (five minutes) is close by, while Witley Court and Gardens (15 minutes) opens the doors to a ruined mansion and former manor house. A little further out but worth it for its meddlesome maze and 15th-century castle is Hampton Court Castle (45 minutes).

Those of you with steam still remaining may want to flock to Wyre Forest (35 minutes), where Go Ape and bicycle hire will surely get your blood pumping. For more wildlife havens, Lickey Hills Country Park (35 minutes) has more walking and cycling trails and the West Midland Safari Park (45 minutes) has a delicious drive-through safari park.

Of course, the city is close by too, as Worcester (10 minutes) has museums, shops and an ancient cathedral for an afternoon of sightseeing.

Must see

  • Worcester Cathedral (4.4 kilometres)
  • Royal Worcester Visitor Centre (4.5 kilometres)
  • Witley Court & Gardens (English Heritage) (9.4 kilometres)
