Rural setting

  • Simple family-friendly site with eco values and countryside views
  • A 25-minute drive from Stratford-upon-Avon
  • A short walk or drive from pubs and shops
Pining for a family-friendly break that includes ample time for rural relaxing, but also the chance to get to grips with Shakespeare’s hometown? In a countryside setting 25 minutes’ drive away from Stratford-upon-Avon, Aylesmore Farm Campsite is exactly the spot to escape the rush and come and listen to the birdsong for a few days… Family-run and family-friendly, the emphasis here is upon being low impact on the local area. This means that the facilities have been kept simple, with just composting toilets and basic cold water washing-up facilities (and don’t expect the grass to be cut short either). All rubbish must be taken home, as there are no bins. The eco site has spectacular views over the surrounding farmland, so you may want to take in the views over a barbecue. Shipston-on-Stour, the local market town 10 minutes’ drive from the site, also has plenty of pubs and restaurants for all different tastes – and it’s fondly known as ‘the gateway to the Cotswolds’. The site is also within walking distance of pubs, a village shop, a bakery and a butcher's. The owners also highly recommend heading to Whichford, 10 minutes' drive away, where there's a café well known for having one of the nicest brunches in the shire. It's right next to a lovely pottery centre for a post-brunch wander. When you’re not making new friends with the other guests or exploring the local countryside, make your way to Stratford-upon-Avon. Here you can take a ghost or Shakespeare tour, visit Shakespeare’s own haunts, catch a theatre show or row a boat down the river Avon.

What customers say

Spectacular, peaceful countryside views and an eco-friendly, back-to-basics feel. Guests love the panoramic vistas, stunning sunsets and calm vibes. Composting toilets are a hit! Owners are super friendly. New gas-heated showers have been added. A top spot for a natural escape, though it can be hilly with long grass.

Liked A little gem lovely setting ideal for tents and campervans nice little touches in soap for washing your hands good place for using your camping stove under cover the shower thought that was great very spacious and hot and enough pressure overall I was impressed with how it was done and the hosts always there to help if needed I would definitely return

Disliked Nothing I disliked properly not for everyone but I thought it was great

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Really great site. Very rural and peaceful locations overall. There are two more levels so we were able to separate ourselves from a big rowdy group. Great location just on the edge of the Cotswolds and a good base for visiting surrounding landscapes. We actually stayed to get my gearbox on my VW T25 sorted next door by Malc so it was perfect for that! Owner texted all details before made it easy to find. Very clean overall.

Disliked The showers are pretty bad. Slowed to a trickle at several points and flashed between hot and cold for like 30 seconds. Second day they were not hot at all which was really disappointing.

From the manager: Hi Reece, thanks for your review. Sorry you had a bad experience with our showers, if you had let us know we would've come and sorted straight away, its the first time they've been temperamental!

We don't normally allow groups to stay so glad you managed to enjoy some peace whilst staying with us, despite the group in the next field.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked I stayed for one night and was lucky enough to have the entire campsite all to myself. It was incredibly quiet, peaceful and the perfect place to switch off and enjoy nature.

The toilets and showers were clean (with plenty of hot water, which made the stay even more comfortable)

Because of the dry weather, the grass and ground were very dry and a little uneven, but it wasn't an issue for my small tent.

In the morning, Matt, the owner, came over to say hello and check that everything had been okay, which was a really lovely touch and made me feel very welcome.

I spent a truly relaxing night, far away from everything, surrounded by nature. The sunset was beautiful, and waking up to an amazing sunrise made the experience even more special.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Cannot recommend highly enough! Especially for kids!!This was our first trip camping as a family and wanted somewhere fairly cheap and basic to get a feel for it! On arrival the facilities looked basic but neat and clean, in keeping with surroundings BUT they were actually fantastic!!! Covered washing up area had soaps to use and a shelf full of plates to borrow PLUS a bunch of toddler toys and books including cars and bikes - our little one was thrilled! The loos are basic composting loos but are so well kept, luxury loo rolls inside with a shelf of books to borrow plus a kids seat and stool and a low handle to make it easy for kids and the sink also has a step to make it accessible for little ones. We didn’t use the showers as we just did one night but they looked very clean and nice.
Views were amazing, there were other campers but not at all over crowded. Unfortunately we weren’t able to have a campfire because of dry conditions but if we had, there were the facilities to do so. Host was also really lovely!
Would defo recommend l!

Disliked It was VERY windy during our stay - obviously not at all the fault of the campsite but there wasn’t really a shelter spot so just something to bare in mind

Local attractions

After visiting Sezincote House & Garden, you might be ready to compose your own sonnet declaring your fondness of the Mogul Indian palace (25 minutes’ drive). It’s one of a handful of gorgeous historical sites a short drive away from the site… A grand day out indeed can be had at the Jacobean country house of Chastleton House (25 minutes) or the arts and crafts garden of Hidcote (25 minutes). Nab a spot on a guided tour around Broughton Castle (20 minutes) too, a fortified manor house with a moat and Great Hall. The Rollright Stones (15 minutes), made from the Jurassic oolitic limestone of the Cotswolds, have been around since the Bronze age and Neolithic period. That’s one last historic site before you return to the present, perhaps with a visit to the All Things Wild (half an hour) zoo or Fairytale Farm’s playgrounds, petting zoo and fairytale-themed gardens (20 minutes). As for a peaceful stroll indeed with nothing to distract you but gorgeous flowers from all corners of the world, get that at the 56-acre Batsford Arboretum and Garden Centre (25 minutes).
