Aylesmore Farm Campsite

Lovely communicative owners who gave clear instructions so we didn’t get lost. The location was great being only an hour away from where we live. Very clean and lots of options of where to pitch our tent. The toilets were great in comparison to what I’ve experienced in the past. No noise issues and an overall good time!

-Off-grid campsite - no frills but perfectly adequate for a night or two
-Great communication from host
- We thought the ‘leave-no-trace’ ethos was a really nice touch. No bins meaning we are all responsible for taking our rubbish home and disposing of everything properly.
- Compost toilets & wash basin (all clean and tidy!)
- Kitchen Sink
- Small selection of kids toys (useful!)
- other campers seemed friendly and polite, there was a mix of ages on-site which we thought really added to our experience. No noise after 9pm which was perfect.

I don’t think it’s fair to say a dislike because I knew what we were getting into with off-grid camping so we were well prepared, but a couple of things could be added to make the experience a little safer, especially as a family with very young kids.

- a pile of bricks for people to use as props for bbq’s (less fire risk!) also, buckets to hand by the kitchen sink for water just in case there is a need to extinguish a bbq.
- maybe some rustic benches or some sort of communal seating area for meals, sawn up logs seating etc all useful for DIY camping
- I know this is being addressed but different locks on the toilets (my 4 year old was delighted that he could see the view while on the throne!) but for others perhaps this would be distracting.

I hope this feedback is useful, these things in no way hampered our experience, just my own thoughts on little touches based on off grid camping we’ve done elsewhere. I believe people should themselves be prepared for wild camping and off grid experiences before they arrive and do their research on what they need to pack (rather than arriving and feeling disappointed that their needs aren’t being catered for!)

Absolutely beautiful sunset views over distant hills and fields, and long grass around the pitches, eco friendly compost toilets and clean running water. We stayed in a converted van and tent with 4 young children for a few days, who loved the space of the fields to run and play on within clear views of the pitch. We spent the evenings with open fire in fire pit enjoying the stars, days we’re enjoying watching the children playing freely in the open. We loved the semi wild set up and privacy given by the owners 🙏 definitely will be coming back 💯 %

The views were really good, the location is good. Toilets were clean and green.

Entrance has a nasty dip that a van can just about make without scraping the bottom, Motorhome a no go, this should be mentioned. No pitches are marked out and was fairly busy so people pitched all over the place. Unsure why the grass cant be cut into some marked pitches. The site is well over priced, only offering a compost toilet and cold water sinks for £24, the rest is wild camping really. We stayed following night in a site with electric hook up and well maintained pitches with similar facilities for £17. I guess its down to preference but I would rather have value for money and not our kind of site at all.

Was a little a tricky to figure out how far the grassy triangle extended as we didn’t want to park where we shouldn’t!

Everything! Gorgeous views, nice and peaceful and easy to find. The check in messages we had were a lovely personal touch and the directions were very handy! Thank you!

Why do people come so close when there’s a whole field to choose from?!

- Stunning view
- Quiet location
- Wild camping feel
- Eco ethos (compost toilets & food waste recycling)
- Child friendly (toys and books in kitchen area, footstool for sink)
- picnic benches
- Pegs easy to push in despite drought

- Not exactly disliked, but could have been improved with shower facilities (although as we were alone the last night, we managed a bottle shower!)
- General recycling facilities would have been convenient

What a wonderful experience for our first time camping. We have two young children and a baby so wanted to try somewhere fairly close to home. This site did not disappoint, kids loved roaming the fields and the views are incredible. The toilet facilities and washing up area were a nice wild camping touch. We were pleasantly surprised at the idea of the compostable toilet too! A very peaceful and beautiful stay. An added bonus that we were out for the final supermoon of 2022. Fully recharged for the rest of the summer holidays!
