Woods by dog walking field

  • Peaceful and friendly site in the Shropshire Hills
  • Walkers' paradise with many strolls and hikes close by
  • Animals to meet on site; eggs and meat available to buy
Bring those boots made for walking, for you'll be hungry for the hikes around Shropshire's Teds Farm Camping. Based in Sheriffhales, about four miles from Telford, this peaceful, friendly and popular little site is in land where walks are all around, meandering for miles through the wildlife havens of the green Shropshire countryside. Ted's is a smallholding, with grass pitches on a gently sloping field looking out over the surrounding Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Chickens and ducks wander the site – the kids are welcome to say hi or go and meet some of the menagerie at the animal paddock – and free-range eggs and fresh meat are usually available for sale. They can also go to play at the park, where there's Ted's Tractor alongside swings, slides, interactive games, climbing walls and bridges. Among the well-maintained amenities are showers and toilets, chemical disposal points and facilities for charging and recycling. There's easy access from the site to Sheriffhales village, just off the main A5.

Great spot! Clean facilities, friendly owners, well-stocked shop. Some find showers small and amenities distant, but the peace, views and vibe mean many keen to come back.

Liked Friendly, relaxed campsite with a great atmosphere. The park kept the kids entertained while I set up and packed down, and they made loads of new friends. Brilliant little shop on site, clean facilities, and loads of character from the roaming peacocks and friendly campsite cat. We only stayed one night but already know we’ll be back.

Liked The site itself is spacious and spotless. Everything is well maintained and it’s clear to see that the site is kept to a high standard. The toilets/showers are immaculate, there is a lovely farm shop on site and you can order takeaway to the site with ease. There is lots of wildlife around and there is now a park on site as well. We’ve been here twice now and without hesitation would book again!

Disliked Wish there was a bit more variety in the farm shop. Last time we came there was lots of amazing fresh fruit, but sadly no fruit this time! I really can’t knock this site for anything else.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the review! Great to have you back! Appreciate your feedback regarding the fruit. As summer approaches you will find a wider selection, strawberry season is almost here and we will soon be selling punnets in the shop, fresh from the local farm (we will also be trying out their cherries this year). As the business grows we hope to be able to offer a selection of fruit and veg throughout the year. See you soon :)

Great site, well maintained, friendly owners.

Liked Really nice site. Very well maintained. Found the pitches to be quite spacious also. We were situated at the bottom of the field and so had relatively flat plots for our tent. Toilet and shower facilities were well maintained and clean - big must for me. Facilities were a little on the smaller side, but they are aware of this are making improvements. The onsite shop is great. The fresh pastries and sweet treats were so good. Stocked with a variety of items from cleaning essentials to food products - if you forget something, it’s probably available to buy in there. Not to mention a selection of ice creams and beer for your hot sunny days. My 3 year old nephew absolutely loved visiting the chickens throughout the day and the children’s play park was well built. Not a great deal near by unless you drive out, but if you’re looking for a quiet cosy stay and don't plan on going out much, I would definitely recommend this site. The owners seemed extremely friendly, pointing us to nearby walking routes and engaged in friendly chit chat. Check in was relatively quick and stress free.

Unpowered grass site

Liked We just love this site, been going for years but more recently since the new management has made changes we have seen so many improvements.

The grounds are kept looking amazing and the new barriers keep you feeling secure (although this is a very safe and secure area anyway in a beautiful small village).

This site attracts the more mature traveller so you are less likely to be bothered by noise, whilst a wooden adventure playground is available away from the main camping area but not out of site so little ones can be seen safe.

Staff are very friendly and welcoming and always do their best to please. They even opened the shop for us one evening when we were out walking, we weren’t even booked on the site at the time.

I just know we will be going back here for years to come.

Disliked Just don’t like leaving and that’s it.

Liked Very friendly staff (Erica & Tam). Erica greeted me at the entry gate as soon, as I arrived, with everything needed for check in.
Nice size level pitch.
Site was easy to get to from the M6 and a very short drive from Lilleshall.
Modern, well looked after facilities, with a well stocked and reasonably priced shop.

Disliked Nothing.

Liked Very spacious pitches, staff super friendly and happy to sort any issues you have, even if they've been caused by the customer. Me :-).

Disliked Toilet and shower block me be a bit small for the number of pitches

From the manager: Thank you for leaving a review, we really appreciated it. Good to hear that you enjoyed your stay. On busier weekends we have a good mix of tents, caravans and motorhomes so tend to manage ok with the showers/loos, that said, we are hoping to expand these in the near future. Hope to see you again soon, bring your issues, we are happy to help :)

Liked Absolutely fantastic site. I was only bike packing so needed limited space , bit needed somewhere to secure my bike. They offered me a barn , but instead selected an area which had a steel gaye separating a field. The Campsite is immaculate , well kept and the staff are extremely helpful. The small shop is well laid out and has a good selection. The shower block and toilets are spotless and constantly checked. Some reviews suggest the showers changing area is small but the shower themselves are clean and hot. I dried off first in the shower them stepped out to get changed , good enough for me. I would recommend and I will be back with my grandchildren as there is a fantastic play area.

Disliked Only snag , which wasn’t the sites fault was there was a noisy rave going on somewhere in the distance.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed your stay despite the party. We found out the next day that it was a prom for one of the local schools, held at a nearby country house, they were having a great time, certainly more lively than my prom many years ago. Pleased to say this was a bit of a one-off, it's usually very peaceful.
Look forward to seeing you again with your grandchildren.

Local attractions

As you'll have brought your sturdy boots, stride out into the Shropshire Hills National Landscape in any direction for green countryside and wildlife haven walks, or drive in the Telford direction for a woodland wander around Wrekin Forest. Striding around establishments is also a topping option when on holiday in any locale, so check out the craft and antique shops, tearooms and pubs, grocers and butchers of the region's market towns like Ellesmere, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth. Set in the centre of Shropshire on the River Severn, the Tudor town of Shrewsbury is also well worth a wander, for more shopping (but of course), Shrewsbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Castle, the museum and art gallery, town centre park and – if you're in town in mid-August – the famed Shrewsbury Flower Show. Also around in Shropshire and its surrounds are award-winning museums, lushly green gardens, farms and abbeys, historic houses managed by the National Trust and English Heritage, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, about 20 minutes' drive from Teds Farm Camping.
