Woods by dog walking field

  • Peaceful and friendly site in the Shropshire Hills
  • Walkers' paradise with many strolls and hikes close by
  • Animals to meet on site; eggs and meat available to buy
Bring those boots made for walking, for you'll be hungry for the hikes around Shropshire's Teds Farm Camping. Based in Sheriffhales about four miles from Telford, this peaceful, friendly and popular little site is in land where walks are all around, meandering for miles through the wildlife havens of the green Shropshire countryside. Ted's is a smallholding, with grass pitches on a gently sloping field set among the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Chickens and ducks wander the site – the kids are welcome to say hi or go and meet some of the menagerie at the animal paddock – and free-range eggs and fresh meat are usually available for sale. Among the well-maintained amenities are showers and toilets, chemical disposal points and facilities for charging and recycling. There's easy access from the site to Sheriffhales village, just off the main A5.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Lovely site, spacious pitches, very clean and tidy and well looked after. Toilet and shower facilities were new and nicely done. The new little shop very handy for grabbing essentials.

Would only be slightly concerned if there at a more busy time that there isn't really enough toilet/shower facilities for the number of pitches.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Everything. It started with a friendly welcome. The site is very well kept and tidy with plenty of space. There are what appear to be new toilets and showers, very clean and working well. Handy sinks for washing up nearby. There are barriers to stop unwanted guests, although the area is quiet so it seemed unlikely that tgere would be interlopers anyway.

I had the place more or less to myself for 2 days, although i was working so did not hace time to relax and ejoy the peaceful surroundings. For days 3 and 4 it was busy with weekenders, but people were well behaved and respectful...some places i stay, there's a rave underway when i get back from work after midnight, but not here...everyone was tucked up quietly.

I did not visit the shop but there are plenty of places in the area for supplies etc. Sheriffhailes, the village just along the road, did not appear to have much doing but Shifnal is about 5 mins drive south and it was quite a bustling town with plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. It even had a funfair on the Saturday...but i skipped that.

The price for the site was very reasonable too.

There is no wifi. That does not bother me at all, in fact it would be a good thing...but i dont have kids wanting to watch Disney or Netflix etc, so that might be an issue for some?

From the manager: Thank you for your review, lovely to hear that you will visit us again in the future! We know the showers are small, there was only one shower in each when we took over Teds two seasons ago and we managed to refurb the shower block to get two showers in. Hopefully we will be able to expand on this in the future..... watch this space

Local attractions

As you'll have brought your sturdy boots, stride out into the Shropshire Hills AONB in any direction for green countryside and wildlife haven walks, or drive in the Telford direction for a woodland wander around Wrekin Forest. Striding around establishments is also a topping option when on holiday in any locale, so check out the craft and antique shops, tearooms and pubs, grocers and butchers of the region's market towns like Ellesmere, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth. Set in the centre of Shropshire on the River Severn, the Tudor town of Shrewsbury is also well worth a wander, for more shopping (but of course), Shrewsbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Castle, the museum and art gallery, town centre park and – if you're in town in mid-August – the famed Shrewsbury Flower Show. Also around in Shropshire and its surrounds are award-winning museums, lushly green gardens, farms and abbeys, historic houses managed by the National Trust and English Heritage, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, about 20 minutes' drive from Teds Farm Camping.
