  • Low-impact eco site in a dark skies area next to the Shropshire Hills
  • Wroxeter Roman City 20 minutes' drive; walks directly from the site
  • Spacious pitches and spectacular views; shops 15 minutes’ drive
Are you ready to see the stars? When the conditions are clear, your chances are spectacularly high at Spring Field Dark Skies Camping, set within a dark skies area on the edge of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Not only that, but during the daytime, there are stunning views over the hills; keep your eyes peeled, and you might just see buzzards or red kites flying overhead This is a low-impact eco site where there's open field management (to attract birds of prey), a solar installation (to provide all electrical supplies) and additional eco features including eco-friendly mowers and recycling facilities. On-site numbers are also kept low to allow for more spacious pitches and privacy for all guests, and to keep the ‘away-from-it-all’ vibe. Don't forget your walking boots here; there are lots of walks beginning directly from the field. If you’re keen to take a picnic along on your walk, pick up gourmet treats from the well-known butcher in Much Wenlock (15 minutes by car). A modern woodfired pizza oven is in the central area of the site for guests to use, as is a communal sheltered picnic pod with a TV and phone charging facilities. There's also a communal firepit and a central fire-safe area (for barbecues and personal firepits, subject to inspection for safety reasons). Amenities are fairly simple at Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camp: drinking water taps and blocks with proper flushing toilets, showers and hot hand-washing facilities, plus separate grey and black water disposal points. Several traditional pubs serving fine food are within 15 minutes' drive of the site, and Shrewsbury is only 35 minutes away for bigger evenings out.

What customers say

Spring Field Dark Skies Eco campsite is loved for its amazing rural spot, stunning views, and eco-friendly vibe. Guests rave about the super friendly hosts, peaceful atmosphere, and clean facilities. The shared fire pit's a hit. While early reviews noted basic toilets, recent ones confirm upgrades like new showers. A few found pitches uneven or pricey extras. Perfect for a quiet escape with great nature and stargazing.

Power optional grass campervan site (four person, small)

Liked Beautiful location.
Great facilities - I used the fridge & freezer.
WiFi was very useful.

Disliked There were a lot of lights at night - surprising in a dark skies campsite! (not a strong dislike - more of a comment!)
It was a bit expensive for a single person on a pitch, but very reasonable for 2.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
I note your comments on light but each pitch has it's own downlight and instructions on how to turn it off.
We are aware of solo travelers and perhaps their need for more personal light but the choice is always left to guests.
This was a particularly busy Bank Holiday weekend and safety is always our priority yet allowing for individual choice.

We do hope to see you and your friend again

Power optional grass campervan site (four person, small)

Liked Very good and clean facility.
Shower and hair dryer are free.
Nice open field for nice view.
We were there on the 12/Aug. and watched Solar eclipse and meteor shower.
Very good experience.
Gentleman at the site was nice too.

Disliked It wasn’t as dark as I was expecting and the pitch was smaller than I thought.

Could not connect to WiFi but it was not important.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Every thing, including Wifi is free and even to free charging points in the pod.

Unfortunately, we are not in charge of the Celestial heavens and it is mid summer but everyone else enjoyed the partial eclipse and saw the shooting stars in the very dark sky at 10pm onwards.
There are no hedges or markers for the pitches.

We allocate according to size of Tents/ camping cars and keep tents on 2 sides to avoid vehicles moving around the field so children can play freely.
We did our best on what turned out to be a very busy Wednesday and we are pleased that everyone else fully enjoyed the experience with us.

Your low score does not reflect the ambiance and facilities offered in our campsite.

Power optional grass campervan site (maximum 7 metres)

Liked Loved the views and the remote location. Facilities are great, especially liked/ amused by the traffic lights on toilet and shower doors to indicate busy or not. The eco approach to energy, waste etc is excellent. Linda and Malcolm were very amiable hosts with some great touring stories of their own.

Disliked Bit windy as it's on the top of a hill! Some areas of the field are sloping but our pitches were great with small chocks. No complaints though

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us
We plan our site locations with tents or motorhomes / campervans in mind and space you out around the field so your pitches are flat (sometimes with chocks)
Malcolm is an engineer so enjoys gadgets and "traffic lights"

We hope to see you again

Power optional grass campervan site (maximum 7 metres)

Liked We absolutely loved this site, it’s a delightful site with lovely hosts and the most amazing sunsets! My wife and I and our 11 year old son stayed here for one night on a short tour of England and honestly I wish we had just stayed here for longer. Linda and Malcom were so friendly and welcoming and we had a lovely chat and shared roof tent stories while watching the sun set over the hills. The toilets and showers are spotless and well appointed, the traffic light system, visible from anywhere on the site to tell you when the showers are available is a great idea. A great little fridge and freezer for our drinks and ice packs and lots of nice little touches make this a must visit site.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are so pleased that you got to see our sunset and appreciate our home campsite.
We modeled it on what we like and the view just came with it.

We hope to see you again and hear more of your travels.

Kind regards
Linda and Malcolm

Power optional grass campervan site (four person, small)

Liked A friendly and informative welcome
Amazing views
Well-organised with a relaxed feel
Amenities were all clean - loved the reminders to leave them clean and not waste water

Disliked Not really a dislike. More of an observation - the mirrors in the ladies facilities were obviously put up by someone a lot taller than your average woman.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your thoughtful review.
I looked at the mirrors in the loos and agree. I'm 5'3" and I struggled..
I will get it sorted but I thank anyone for constructive criticism

Malcolm, maintenance man is 6ft.

I'll cut him down to our size.

Local attractions

If you’re an active family looking for sporty pursuits, whizz around on quad bikes, try an archery session or improve your aim while shooting clays at The Edge Adventure Activities (15 minutes’ drive). Go pony trekking in the Shropshire Hills (25 minutes), or take to the water in a kayak on the River Severn (half an hour). And of course, there are loads of hiking trails to explore on foot or by bike (an electric bike might make some of those hills easier though). Sneak a bit of history into the holiday mix with a potter around the ruins at Wroxeter Roman City (20 minutes), where you can also see a recreated Roman townhouse, and move forward to the 18th century at National Trust - Attingham Park Estate: Cronkhill (15 minutes) to admire the Italianate villa built by mega-architect John Nash. To continue the cultural theme, plan to spend a day discovering the numerous museums and attractions at Ironbridge Valley of Invention (25 minutes), where highlights include the chance to get dressed up in period hats at Blists Hill Victorian Town, pull a locomotive down the track at Engenuity or go deep underground in a tunnel oozing with bitumen.
