- Peaceful rural site with gorgeous views of the Chiltern Hills
- On the Ridgeway Trail, less than 30 minutes from Oxford and Reading
- Dog-friendly site; campfires permitted, with wood for sale
Disconnect from the world and plug in to nature at Ridgeway View Campsite, a spacious, back to basics site under 30 minutes by car from both Oxford and Reading. Generous pitches here are surrounded by Oxfordshire wheatfields with the Chiltern Hills beyond.
This quiet site takes its name from the ancient trackway it backs onto. Now one of the UK’s popular National Trails, the Ridgeway 87-mile route is known as ‘Britain’s oldest road’ – walk here to follow in the footsteps of 5,000 years' worth of travellers. Less than a mile away, visitors can link up with the wildlife-rich Thames Path too.
Also within walking distance (just far enough to build up an appetite for lunch) are several great pubs – plot your routes to take in the hostelries in Crowmarsh Gifford or Hailey.
For stocking up on essentials, taking tea and cake or pottering around the shops, pop to the historic market town of Wallingford (five minutes’ drive), where you should also seek out the blue plaque for famed novelist Agatha Christie (British TV watchers may also recognise the area as the setting for Midsomer Murders). Half an hour’s drive to the north brings you to Oxford, and the same distance south is Reading.
Guests have access to portaloo toilets and cold-water showers. Barbecues and campfires are permitted if raised off the ground – firewood is available to buy, and cooking slabs can be hired. Considerate dog owners are welcome and there’s plenty of space nearby for the canines to stretch their legs. On the farm there’s a no-noise policy at night past 10.30pm, so that everyone can enjoy a bit of rural peace.

From the manager...
We're so glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet! We pride ourselves on how clean our facilities are, it's something regularly mentioned in our campsite reviews. Our toilets are cleaned every day like clockwork, without exception, but unfortunately it can sometimes just take one person to create a mess again. We will review our cleaning schedule for busy bank holidays going forward but we do encourage you to read most of our reviews as Monday morning was not representative of how our toilets are kept. This weekend was the busy August bank holiday and as such we actually doubled our cleaning schedule so they were cleaned twice every day in the morning and the evening 11am & 7pm on Saturday & Sunday, and at 10am on Monday morning. They were clean at 7pm on Sunday evening and what you describe was entirely from overnight use. This twice a day clean was clearly not enough based on the condition of the toilets when we arrived on site, a few toilets were blocked which only one person reported to us. We appreciate the feedback, and we will review our cleaning schedule for these busy weekends, all we can otherwise ask to future campers reading this is to please respect the facilities and leave them in the condition you found them in, and report any maintenance issues to the campsite number immediately. |

Local attractions
On a summer’s evening, there’s nothing quite like messing about on the river – hire a boat nearby at Wallingford Bridge or Benson Waterfront (both five minutes' drive). Sipping a glass of wine comes a close second, so Brightwell Vineyard (10 minutes) could be a good shout too.
For wildlife enthusiasts, Cholsey Marsh Nature Reserve is 10 minutes away by car or a pleasant hour’s walk taking in the Thames Path along the river. And children (and quite possibly grownups) are bound to love a visit to Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary (15 minutes’ drive).
To get the blood pumping, you could brave the local skydiving (five minutes) and watersports (15 minutes) centres, or check out the offerings at the Ridgeway View axe throwing range on-site

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, the views, and found our staff helpful!
Last year we separated our toilet block and unfortunately this results in everyone on site only using half of the toilets, half of the toilets were barely used, and the other half were used almost exclusively resulting in worse wear and tear. This is why for our 2022 season all of the toilets were kept in one block of loos. In our experience of our first year toilets need to be kept in one block.
We will be considering on moving the block further down the field in our improvements for the 2023 season, however being a 10 acre site there will always be pitches furthest away from the facilities, we recommend to all campers being strategic about where to set up your pitch, there is plenty of choice but in choosing to set up away from the toilets you will have to travel further on site - the furthest end of the field has better views but it is the furthest from the facilities.
