General

  • Spacious family-friendly campsite overlooking historic Abingdon
  • Five minutes' drive from Abingdon town centre; walk to the Thames Path
  • Generous pitches, hot outdoor showers, spectacular views and firepits

Pitch up and relax in the great outdoors at High Lodge Farm in Oxfordshire. This peaceful 400-acre farm borders the River Thames and has spectacular views over historic Abingdon, widely thought to be England's oldest town.

Made up of rolling fields, meadows and mature woodland, this back to basics site feels a world away from urban life and is a great place to enjoy a short (or long) break under the stars.

This pop-up site is made up of spacious pitches which all come with a firepit and a crate of logs. Other facilities include hot outdoor showers, compost toilets, a washing-up station, an outdoor games area and a communal picnic area. Barbecues are permitted if raised off the ground (no disposable barbecues, please).

Dogs are welcome and select parts of the farm will be open for exclusive walkies with your four-legged friend.

What a fantastic, family friendly site. We loved the spacious pitches, hot outdoor showers and fantastic fire-pits that were included. The owners had thought about some lovely touches, including a book exchange, badminton net, jenga and a table tennis table. The sunset views were spectacular and access to the sunflower field and Toot trailers were a wonderful addition when we didn't feel like cooking. Great value for money and lovely memories made. Jess was brilliant replying to all messages we had - excellent communication and customer service. We also loved the farm walk.

Lovely setting in close proximity to historic Abbingdon. We enjoyed a 10k walk along the Thames Path, and ate at an excellent pub (The Brewers Tap?) with great beers and home-smoked meats. The outdoor showers and excellent fire pits/barbecues (with firewood!) were a nice touch.

    Disliked:

The pitches were on the small side and not clearly marked so campers ended up a bit crushed together. It felt like festival camping rather than the quiet weekend in the country we were hoping for. (If we sat facing the perimeter of the field we could pretend we were somewhere more remote.) We were unlucky in that a noisy group were next to us and stayed up until 2am talking. Would also be better if the toilets had more privacy (i.e. move the handwashing sink further away so people aren't hanging about!)

From the manager...

Thank you for your review - we really appreciate your feedback. So glad you enjoyed a nice walk along the Thames path and our refreshing outdoor showers! Noted about the pitches, several people have pointed out we didn't clearly mark them so we will think about that for next year. We're planning a short-cut to Abingdon along the Thames Path for next year.

We really enjoyed our stay at High Lodge Farm. The situation of the camping field and the views were amazing, the pitches were a really good size and toilets / showers etc were well looked after. It was also great to have the sunflower field and the hay bales - the kids loved playing on them. Fire pits and plenty of available wood without being over priced was also excellent.

    Disliked:

It could do with more toilets and a bit more privacy for toilets and showers. Also we thought the car route around the edge of the field and the numbered pitches on the inside of the car track was a really great set up but it wasn't obvious enough when we got there and many people had not stuck to the marked pitches. Just needs to be more obvious!

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your comments and we're delighted you enjoyed the views, pitches and facilities. We agree we probably need to provide more facilities for next year and we'll definitely work on marking out the pitches to make it clearer. Thank you!

Loved the showers and loos. So much better than a shower block. I never shower while camping but actively chose to here. Pitch was huge! Fire pits were such fun and views were lovely. Overall a fantastic site.

    Disliked:

We weren’t really sure what to do on arrival as there is no one to great you. But we figured it out!

From the manager...

So pleased you enjoyed our facilities. We worked hard to make them all ourselves! What a beautiful picture too. Noted about the arrival, we'll definitely think about that for next year and how to make the welcome pack clearer.
