Unpowered grass tent site
Liked: Warm friendly welcome from owner. We could choose where we wanted to pitch our tent. Lovely quiet site surrounded by trees. No road noise. Basic but clean facilities. Fire pits available. Lots of footpaths for walking and little lanes for cycling. Half an hour to walk into Retford or along the Chesterfield canal. We would definitely stay again

Liked: The unfussy welcome, the peacefulness, the amount of open space (surrounded by trees), the simplicity. It would be hard to find without the owners' clear directions in the email they send when you've booked – essential to pay attention!

The Annexe unpowered grass tent site
Liked: The beautiful trees in the main campsite and the space in the annexe where we stayed for 3 nights! It was lovely also to be able to have a bbq and a fire in a firepit if you wanted to (we didn't do this but it's a lovely thought)
Disliked: There were only 2 showers and they had seen better days (old shower curtains - the kind that stick to you - enclosed rooms without a lot of air). We have camped a lot on the continent but never in the UK and have always found there to be a good number of modern showers and rooms with mirrors and basins as well as separate toilets so perhaps this is the UK norm, but we felt for the amount of potential campers, 2 showers was too little
