  • Adults-only site behind a traditional pub in Nottinghamshire
  • Lincoln 20 minutes’ drive; Sherwood Forest half an hour
  • Pub garden and a fishing lake, plus riverside walks; dog-friendly
If you’re keen to stay in the open air but don’t want to miss out on a nightly pint in a cosy local, Swan Lake Caravan Park might just be the place for you. The grass pitches at this adults-only site sit behind the White Swan pub, a traditional boozer in the Nottinghamshire village of Dunham on Trent. There are other advantages to staying here besides the proximity to the pub: the site is just off the A57 (and therefore easy to reach), plus there are bus stops nearby, and it will welcome your canine buddy. On top of that, it has its own fishing lake. Ready to explore the Nottinghamshire countryside? A 10-minute walk takes you to the Dunham Toll Bridge and the path that runs along the River Trent. Then you can walk (or cycle) south towards Fledborough Viaduct and on to Girton Lakes (a five-mile hike); or head north, towards Torksey Castle (about four miles). If you’re feeling adventurous, the Skellingthorpe Walk is a 10-mile path leading all the way into Lincoln (allow at least four hours on foot… or 20 minutes by car). The site has modern toilet and shower facilities, freshwater points and chemical waste disposal, plus an area where you can wash up after your barbecue.

Liked: Adults only. Gastro pub. River walks

Disliked: Arrived Saturday lunchtime, went home Tuesday mid morning, in all this time the facilities had not been cleaned. Mud on the floor in wc. Grass and mud on floor as you get out of shower. Including the accessible facilities. Didn't feel clean after a shower when you got to step on mud and grass..

Liked: Lovely quiet adults only site. Very laid back, really helpful site manager.

Behind the White Swan pub which does the best fish and chips and really good Sunday lunch which was great value. They will box up meals for you to take to the van too. A local Indian restaurant delivers great food. £4 delivery though so we walked and collected it as it was only five minutes away.

Really great thing is that you can arrive and leave at whatever time you like! We packed up, went for lunch today and left at 2pm so nice and relaxed.

Local attractions

Explore 3,000+ acres of parkland at National Trust - Clumber Park (25 minutes' drive), a former ducal estate that now welcomes visitors – whether on foot or bike. Check out the Gothic chapel, pause for a picnic by the lake or in the Pleasure Grounds, or sniff out the Rose Garden, with its dozens of varieties. When in Nottinghamshire, of course you have to pay a visit to Sherwood Forest (half an hour), said to have been home to Robin Hood and his merry men.
