  • Off-grid Northamptonshire site 10 minutes’ drive from Daventry
  • Silverstone and Althorp Estate both 20 minutes’ drive
  • Easy access from the M1; canal and woodland walks close by
Craving that feeling of being in the middle of nowhere… but also kind of keen to be close to local amenities? The answer lies at AllThings Camping, a quiet place that’s tucked away in the Northamptonshire countryside but also well placed for lots of handy infrastructure. At this laidback off-grid site, you’ll be staying in a peaceful seven-acre field with simple facilities including a shower and a couple of compost toilets. There’s also a shared mess tent with some basic kitchen kit (including a kettle and some tea and coffee supplies) and seating for those times when you need somewhere weatherproof to relax. Coffee and cakes are available on site during the school holidays and the big Silverstone weekend (the famed circuit is a 20-minute drive away). The vibe here is super chilled, with kids and dogs welcome, plenty of space to relax and low levels of light pollution often leading to some pretty good stargazing. Nearby, you’ll be able to walk in the woods or along the canal (five minutes’ drive). Shops, cafés, boat rentals and river swimming spots are also a few minutes’ drive away, and there’s a Roman fort about a mile away. So far, so rural… but in fact there are plenty of useful facilities nearby, either in the nearby village of Nether Heyford (five minutes) or in bigger towns like Daventry (10 minutes) and Northampton (20 minutes). AllThings Camping is also very handy for the M1, as it’s only about 10 minutes’ drive from Junction 15.

What customers say

A tranquil, natural spot with a 'wild' feel, but with handy, clean basics like compost loos & a gas shower. Owner Libby's praised for her warmth & the views are a stunner. It's simple, which many love for the peace. Plans for new showers and hedging are in the works.

Liked I had an excellent stay at this campsite, especially as it was my first time camping. The setting is very rural, with no road noise at all, so you can just pitch up and relax straight away.

The facilities are basic, but everything is done really well. The shower, although simple, was honestly one of the best I’ve used, and the composting toilets were lovely and kept very clean.

It’s a peaceful, laid-back place with a great atmosphere. Even though it’s close to home, it really felt like I was miles away. I’m already looking forward to coming back again in the next few weeks!

Disliked Nothing!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Relaxed site, open field, basic facilities. The compost toilets were kept very clean.
We were made to feel very welcome. Mixture of couples and families all respectfully enjoying their pitches, didnt feel over crowded, there was the space for the kids to play safely.
There is a communal BBQ and fire pit.
Tesco express and petrol station less than 10mins drive for supplies.

Disliked We stayed in good weather, the addition of a communal covered area could be helpful for those travelling light. (We had a gazebo so wasnt an issue for us)

From the manager: Hiya, Thanks for the great review. Im waiting on planning permissions before we can get the mess tent back up and running as you're right we do need a place for shelter in the weather extremes were having.
As for the spiders....LOL I do sweep them out fairly regularly but its tricky staying on top of them all. Sorry you had a moment but glad your overall stay was a good one.

Liked Needed a site close to this years supercar fest. Myself and my youngest son stayed here one night, to save me a early drive down. It had everything we needed, toilets, showers and running water. Surrounded by farmers fields and picturesque villages. With shops only a 2 mile drive away. No complaints, would stay here again.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked We had a lovely time at the campsite. It was my first time camping alone with my two children, and we all loved it. The location is truly beautiful and allows for a real connection with nature. There are also lovely walks and bike rides nearby, although some routes are a bit hilly, and the villages are very picturesque.

The campsite itself was basic; the compost toilets were really clean and charming, while the showers were clean and very functional.

We actually extended our stay by an extra night, even though the temperatures were still very chilly for May.

Local attractions

If you’re into all things royal, you might want to take a pilgrimage to the Althorp Estate (20 minutes’ drive), the centuries-old home of the Spencer family. Spencer as in ‘Diana Spencer’. Lady Diana, the late, much-loved Princess of Wales, is buried on a private island on the estate, but it’s possible to visit a memorial dedicated to her, in a peaceful spot surrounded by leafy vegetation and free-roaming peacocks. National Trust - Stowe Gardens (half an hour) features a vast area of parkland designed by Capability Brown, plus manicured gardens dotted with follies and monuments such as the Temple of British Worthies, a semi-circular structure paying homage to key figures such as Queen Elizabeth I, Shakespeare and Sir Isaac Newton. Put your code-breaking head on and visit the complex at Bletchley Park (35 minutes), which was an intelligence hub during World War II, with mathematicians like Alan Turing trying to decode the enemy’s encrypted messages. Exhibitions are spread out over multiple huts.
