  • Peaceful site on a working family farm in rural Leicestershire
  • Five minutes' drive to Kilworth House Theatre; Foxton Locks 15 minutes
  • Easy access from the M1; village shop and pub a mile away
Shopping around for somewhere with lovely rural views for your Leicestershire break? Set your compass for Cote Hill Farm Stay, part of a working family farm about a mile from the village of Husbands Bosworth – on a clear day, the views from here stretch out for up to three miles. With a backdrop like that, and a setting where your nearest neighbours will be the cows in the next-door fields, this is a peaceful location indeed – just the thing for a bit of relaxation time for families, couples or small groups. You won’t be far from amenities and things to do, though – there are lots of canal paths, woodland walks and cycle trails around, and you’ll be close to attractions like Stanford Hall and Foxton Locks. Getting to and from the site should be straightforward enough, as the site is only about 10 minutes’ drive from the M1, via a journey that’s almost entirely on an A road. Lutterworth and Market Harborough are both about 10-15 minutes’ drive away for shops and other facilities, but if you don't fancy going that far, it’s handy to have a pub and a convenience store on hand in the local village too. Facilities on site include a washing-up area, a shared fridge and a toilet block with showers, and barbecues are permitted if you’d like to try a bit of outdoor cooking.

Liked: Basic campsite in rural setting with clean facilities.

Disliked: Very small. Even when half full felt crowded especially with vehicles on site. No footpaths off site, had to walk down a road. Padlocked gate seemed unnecessary. No hot water for washing up. No phone charging points or ice pack facilities. On the flight path for East Midlands airport and near a road so expect some low level noise. No fresh farm produce available on site and no fire pits allowed.

From the manager: Aww it is a shame you left such a poor review for a new business that wasn’t factual, you left positive feedback from what we advertise the site to be, so thank you as this is correct. (A basic campsite in a rural setting with clean facilities.) but the other things you mentioned that are negative are things we do not advertise as we do not provide them, so I don’t think this review is not a true reflection of our new business. If we said we provided a charging point and sold farm produce and we didn’t do this, then I would understand your negative review, but we do not provide these facilities and we have never said we do, so your review is harsh. Our site is located on our quite rural farm and we are over 33 miles away from an airport. I’d say all campsites are probably within this radius. It’s a shame you didn’t see the positives of owl sounds, and cows at the side of you, the gorgeous views and sunset and a bright star lit sky on our gorgeous farm.

Shepherd's hut (ensuite)

Liked: We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here and absolutely loved it. The site was incredibly peaceful and the shepherds hut was fantastic and in a great location. Our host Carolyne struck the perfect balance between caring and looking after her campers but also giving them space to relax on their own. Carolyn was also really keen to learn our experience of the stay from a guest perspective in order to see if there were any areas she wanted to develop further. This attention to detail was really impressive. In short, my wife and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to others and we will deffo be back ourselves.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (family)

Liked: Really lovely spot. It's a flat field and not particularly big, so you're never too far from the wash block. The field is gated and secure so young children can roam free. The sunset is as good as it looks on the pictures and the stars put on a show for us when the clouds cleared. Carolyne was really welcoming. Perfect short break to take the kids camping.

Local attractions

This area is laced with canals that make great places for walks or bike rides along the towpaths, especially if you can plan your route to take in a drink at a canalside pub along the way. A popular spot nearby is Foxton Locks (15 minutes’ drive), where you can go fishing or pond-dipping, take a walk on the circular trail and visit the canal museum. Boat trips run from here on summer weekends as well. There are several historic sites to visit nearby too, including the Naseby Battlefield (10 minutes), commemorating the famed battle of 1645. There are often events held in the lovely grounds of Stanford Hall (10 minutes), and the theatre at Kilworth House (five minutes) has a packed programme of shows and musical events. Also worth a trip nearby are the Armourgeddon Military Museum (five minutes), Mini Meadows Farm (five minutes), Coton Manor Gardens (15 minutes) and the King Richard III Visitor Centre and National Space Centre in Leicester (half an hour).
