Swing!
The adults-only riverside field
Large field with shelter and safely fenced off from the river

  • Peaceful riverside pop-up site in the Derbyshire Peak District
  • Peak District National Park 15 minutes’ drive; Chatsworth 25 minutes
  • Dog walks straight from the pitches; Barlow pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Overlooking Barlow Brook in gorgeous Derbyshire countryside, Riverside Valley Camping is a peaceful family-run pop-up site on a smallholding that’s home to a herd of dairy cows. The ethos here is simplicity: the owners have kept things basic with minimal facilities to preserve the calm of the surrounding woodland. This means no showers, no electricity and lights off at 10pm please. The whole site is dog-friendly, and the field designated for adults has riverside pitches, while the family camping field is safely fenced off from the water. Chargeable extras include firepits available for hire, and you can also cuddle gentle calves and take them for a (supervised) walk. The pretty village of Barlow (10 minutes’ drive) is home to two award-winning gastro pubs, two breweries and plenty of scenic hiking and biking trails to follow. During August you’ll witness the intricate floral displays known as well dressings decorating the streets, and summertime also brings Barlow Carnival, featuring a parade, delicious local food and beer, live entertainment and a funfair for families. If you’re a keen hiker, you can look forward to long moorland and valley rambles in the Peak District National Park (15 minutes’ drive), and Derbyshire heritage landmarks are easily accessed too – Chatsworth House, its grounds and opulent state rooms are 25 minutes’ drive away.

What customers say

Peaceful, spacious farm site. Praised for friendly owners & lovely stream/woodland setting. Enjoyed ample space, river access, woodland walks, and farm animal interaction. Basic but charming, well-kept. Fire pits, wood, portable loos provided. More loos for bigger fields suggested.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (family)

Liked We booked very last minute as 1 seasoned camper and 1 novice with a young child and dog in tow.
We selected a spot in the bottom field although a spot next to the horse paddock is on our horizon for our next booking! There was so much space and the setting is lovely surrounded by trees with a stream in 1 corner so incredibly peaceful.
The field was clean and directions were good - sat nav takes you right there. There was a phone number which we used for the wood/coal/firelighters and the lady and her daughter came round in a small tractor around 6:30pm. They stopped by every tent and chatted and presumably provided any fire materials needed. She even let my tractor obsessed son sit on their tractor!
There were porta loos which were clean and smell-free with hand wash etc.
the location is great for anyone wanting to do Barlow walks etc or just for a quiet day or 2 away. Looking forward to our next booking. Thankyou! 🏕️

Unpowered grass caravan site (family)

Liked Plenty of space. And by the next day we had the field to ourselves. Great location. Certainly off grid apart from a couple of loos.
Guests included woodpeckers, buzzards, kestrels and the kingfisher.
Hosts were friendly and very helpful.
Keep up the excellent work.

Disliked Nothing with regards to the place itself, but disliked the total disrespect from other campers for basically fly tipping in the hosts field. Why would you leave chairs, rubbish bags, mattresses and tents behind for them to clear up? Gives those that show respect a bad name. Take your rubbish home with you.!

Bell tent (riverside, secluded)

Liked We had a lovely stay at Riverside Valley Camping in the ‘Secluded’ Glamping Bell tent. The location was perfect, looking out onto a small flowing river, which our boys loved exploring. The owners were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble and the location is perfect for exploring. Would highly recommend.

Disliked Would be great to have the opportunity to have a shower or somewhere to wash up.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (family)

Liked I booked a pitch on the family campsite for myself, my two 6 year old and our dog. It's not too far from home as neither the kids or dog had been camping before. This site is absolutely perfect. Such friendly hosts and such a beautiful location! we have all had the most fantastic 24 hours exploring the river and enjoying the great outdoors. The calf cuddling was such a worthwhile added bonus too! I have no doubt we will be back as a family but this is also a wonderful place for an adult only break away too. Amazing, thank you!

Liked Huge well kept site! Ability to choose your own pitch is great. Our dog loves the river so we get as close as we can to keep him happy 😁. Was our second visit within 2months and were already planning a third visit

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (family)

Liked Lovely peaceful area, flat pitches with plenty of space for the kids to run around, they really enjoyed playing in the river. They also loved seeing the animals.
We stumbled upon Barlow carnival which was really fun and we had a great day in the village which is a short walk up the road.
Portaloos only (as in description) but clean.
Owners are really friendly and helpful, even jump started my car on the last day without any hassle.

Disliked Nothing.
It’s a very basic site as described but we liked that about it.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (adults only)

Liked Barlow was lovley great pub called the peakcock and the carnival was great

Disliked Toilets was a portaloo x 2 the camp was busy and the toilet were not clean, and rubbish piled up at the side of the toilet the bins were full and also had maggots.
The river is more like a stream and not really that easy to access. Some partys of it was really dirty and litter as well, i didnt want to let the dog get in it. Water access is just a top at the top of the family field

Unpowered grass caravan site (family)

Liked This is a really peaceful camping, with nice day activities nearby. We were welcomed by the owner, after we arrived late in the evening and set ourselves up at our self chosen spot. We were very happy with the suggestions of the owner about the things to do around and our kids happily made a fire for which the fire wood was sold by the camp site. Not many facilities on site, but that’s part of the charm!

Bell tent (riverside, secluded)

Liked The bell tent was cozy and the site has a really relaxed, friendly feel. The owners couldn’t have been nicer. It’s dog friendly too, which was perfect for us.

The kids spent most of their time playing in the river (they loved it!) while we got to enjoy the peaceful setting. There’s also lots to do in the area with some brilliant walks and places to explore
