  • Peaceful riverside pop-up site in the Derbyshire Peak District
  • Peak District National Park 15 minutes’ drive; Chatsworth 25 minutes
  • Dog walks straight from the pitches; Barlow pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Overlooking Barlow Brook in gorgeous Derbyshire countryside, Riverside Valley Camping is a peaceful family-run pop-up site on a smallholding that’s home to a herd of dairy cows. The ethos here is simplicity: the owners have kept things basic with minimal facilities to preserve the calm of the surrounding woodland. This means no showers, no electricity and lights off at 10pm please. There are two camping areas: the field designated for adults has riverside pitches, while the family camping meadow is safely fenced off from the water. Chargeable extras include firepits available for hire, while you can cuddle gentle calves and take them for a (supervised) walk for an extra fee, and there’s the option to bottle-feed lambs in late spring. The whole site is dog-friendly, and there are lots of easily accessed footpaths around for exercising them. They might also like to have a dip in the river, but please just remember to clean up after them and keep them on leads around the pitches. If you’re a keen hiker, you can look forward to long moorland and valley rambles in the Peak District National Park (15 minutes’ drive), and Derbyshire heritage landmarks are easily accessed too – Chatsworth House, its grounds and opulent state rooms are 25 minutes’ away by car.

What customers say

Spacious, friendly, relaxed campsite in a beautiful spot with river access. Welcoming owners, "back to basics" feel. Kids & dogs love the space, river, play area. Great pizza! Toilets are basic portaloos – might be tricky when busy. Good for short stays, especially if you have your own facilities.

Family Field unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Beautiful little piece of the Peak District 😍 came with my daughters for a night, last minute! Kids absolutely loved being able to walk through the river, and couldn’t get them off the play equipment! The hosts were so friendly and helpful, and do some really really nice food!! I felt it was safe enough for my kids to go n get ice creams n drinks from the food van on their own. When you get there you can literally drive round n see where you want to park up which is just brilliant. Thank you so much we will be back xx

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site (adults only)

Liked Level ground, lots of space, owned by a really friendly family. The pizzas were lovely. I can't remember the name of Katie & Alistair's daughter but she is a credit to them....an incredibly friendly young lady . Special thanks to Alistair for being so patient, and accepting, with our reactive Frenchie . It's really good that there were the two separate fields for adults and families.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site (adults only)

Liked Lovely, friendly, simple campsite in a great location. The owners Alistair and Katie are very friendly and easy to get on with and totally awake to all that is going on.
Quite basic level of camping and yet everything is there. Toilets, doors could do with being able to close a bit tighter and a shower provided if you need one.
Children love it as they can play on the park and parents can sit and relax and easily keep an eye on all that is going on.
Pizza on an evening and breakfast cobs and coffee on a morning, what's not to like.
Enjoyed a couple of hours with the grandchildren and dogs playing in the river, which was a bit a low but that's due to the time of year. Tried making a bridge and raced leaves, great simple fun.
Dogs loved walking in the woods as it was a bit cooler for them.

Family Field unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Lovely atmosphere on the family field. The tents all had a view of the climbing frame and lots of room to play, football, rounders. All the kids played together.
I liked that the food van was far enough away from the field that the kids didn't notice it so they weren't asking all the time for pizzas and drinks so they were happy with their picnic. Friendly owner. The kids and dog enjoyed exploring the stream. Dog friendly. Wasn't quite sure what the situation with the toilets were I think there was one porta loo for the field? We was only there one night so didn't worry about it too much we wild wee'd :) Relaxed atmosphere. I appreciated that 10pm quiet was respected we camped with 3 children and a baby, the pitch fell quiet by about 10.20. Recommended to friends. Will definitely return.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site (adults only)

Liked Great people running the place, the location is beautiful, some nice walks through the woods if you shimmy through the stream. Helpful and attentive both times I've been.

Disliked The track in is a bit bumpy but manageable. That's it really.

Family Field unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Large campsite, private pitches, plenty of space for children to run around. Beautiful walks just out of the gate, amazing nature. Pizza on site was a lovely perk.

Disliked A little bit of mess around the river. I guess that says more about the campers than about the campsite, though.
