What customers say

Great fishing spot, peaceful & clean. Lovely lake views & handy location. Some noise from planes & road traffic, plus limited/worn loos are noted concerns for a few.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked If you like fishing then the lakes are great.

Disliked Not a great site for caravanning. The facilities are run down. The 'occassional' plane mentioned on the website is actually hundreds of planes each day, starting at 5.45am and the about every 5 minutes after that. The site is right in the flight path of EMA. No sleep in here!

From the manager: I am truly sorry you did not enjoy our site it does state on the booking site and the Springwood website we are on the take off path for EMA airport .there are forty flights a day over it’s busy period for passengers going on holiday from the airport to Europe

Powered grass caravan site

Liked The location was lovley. We loved watching the planes east Midlands airport very close. The site was nice and maintained to a reasonable standard. Access to places of interest within driving distance, Calke Abbey, staunton harrold reservoir and house. National Arboretum.

Disliked The toilet block needs an upgrade sticky door hole in the floor gaping gap on the shower door. The ground was uneven. Dogs should be kept on a lead except the owners dog who got aggressive towards my dog. Woods you cant walk in. Fishing ponds with strict rules. The smell of recreational drugs at all hours of the day.

From the manager: Good morning Richard

I am sorry there are rules in place to follow on the site and on the fishing lake but it is for health and safety reasons

Why did you not report to the staff about the smell of drugs then something could have been actioned about this as there were children on site all bank holiday
The toilet block is being refurbished at the end of the season but I do thank you for your comments

Kind regards springwood team

The staff are easy going ,

Powered grass caravan site

Liked I liked the fishing lake in the middle of the site. Although I don't fish. A small friendly site. Fairly level pitches, but I did used my levellers. Good for plane spotting as near the end of EMA runway.

Disliked The facilities were basic and in need of upgrading(but it didn't spoil our visit)

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Flat even pitch for my campervan

Disliked I arrived quite late in the day around 6.45pm but within the time frame stated on the website but reception was closed and no one appeared to be around. I called the mobile no which went to answer machine. I called the house no and a recorded voice said it was disconnected. I called the mobile no. again and one of the owners said simply knock on the door. When I finally got to speak to someone it felt that no one seemed to cared much whether I stayed to not.
One of the toilets had a dangerous hole in the floor right where you step in - an issue which had clearly been flagged in previous comments.

Not a campsite I would come back to ....

Local attractions

Base yourself at Springwood Fisheries for an easy angling break or a browse around the attractions and sights of the National Forest and Derbyshire – a bit more fishing is available around these parts too (hint: pick up a Forestry Commission fishing permit and look for Hatchet Pond and Little Hatchet). If you're on hol here with older kids, try the play areas, discovery zones and amphitheatre at Conkers Adventure Centre in the National Forest at Swindlicoate or the Megazone or Tenpin at nearby Derby. And all ages should be raring to get to the Grand Prix Collection at Donington Park, the biggest collection of Grand Prix cars in the world. Nearby Staunton Harold Reservoir, containing Dimmingsdale Nature Reserve, is a carefully maintained habitat for plant and bird life; it also has a visitors' centre, sailing club and adventure playground.
