  • Dog-friendly site on a working farm in the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell and 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Walks direct from the pitches and a welcoming pub 10 minutes’ stroll
Cows and sheep for neighbours, gorgeous walks from the pitches and the likes of Bakewell (home of delicious almond-flavoured tarts) and Chatsworth House within 20 minutes’ drive… who could turn down a Peak District National Park getaway at Brosterfield Farm Caravan Park? What a stunning and peaceful place it is, too: the camping meadow is surrounded by fields and operates as a quiet site, which means no loud noise or music allowed, please, as the owners want you to relax and get back to nature. Spotless facilities include modern showers, toilets, a pot-washing area and a chemical disposal point. In addition, there are a couple of electric-car charging points as well as recycling facilities in the corner of the camping field. Barbecues are allowed (bring your own from home), and you can stock up on bits for the grill at the supermarket in Bakewell. Your canine chums (up to two per pitch) are also welcome, and luckily, the local pub is dog-friendly (both inside and out) with an excellent restaurant, open fires and good ales. It’s only 10 minutes’ walk away in the pretty village of Foolow, which has a duck pond and is the start of many Peak District walks and mountain-biking trails.

Unpowered grass site

Liked The site was very clean and well cared for. Facilities were clean and close to the pitches. We had a wonderful time and it was definitely the most silent camp site I've been in. Highly recommend purchasing a burning bucket for the evening for sitting out and star gazing.

Liked We had a great stay at this site and there was so much to like about it. Everything was clean and well looked after — the toilets and showers were cleaned twice a day, and toilet roll was always topped up etc. There are also plenty of bins around, so it was easy to keep things tidy and dispose of waste properly.

The site itself is spacious and open, giving you lots of room to pitch up without feeling too close to your neighbours. On this visit, we noticed that additional toilets (portaloos) had been added towards the back of the site since we last came in 2024, which is useful during busy times or when the main toilet block is closed for cleaning.

The location is another big plus. It’s just a short walk to the local pub, and you're perfectly placed to explore the surrounding area. There are loads of lovely local walks nearby, and you're close to some brilliant spots like National Trust routes and other hidden gems.

We also liked that dogs are welcome on site (for a small additional cost), which is ideal if you're travelling with a pet.

All in all, it was a really enjoyable stay and we’d definitely come back again.

Disliked There weren’t any major dislikes, but just a few things to be aware of. The main toilet block has three showers and two toilets (split between male and female), which is fine most of the time — but during our stay, the site was pretty much at full capacity, so there were some queues at peak times.
The new portaloos at the back of the site are a useful addition, but they’re not quite as pleasant to use as the main facilities. You can tell they’re being cleaned regularly, but there were a lot of flies inside and they just didn’t feel as comfortable or fresh.

Another thing we noticed this year was how busy the site was. It seemed to be fully booked, but more people kept arriving. Once all the pitches around the edge were taken, some guests started setting up in the middle of the field. To be fair, it’s a large site with plenty of space for kids to run around, so it didn’t feel overcrowded in terms of pitch size — but it did mean more people using the shared facilities, which made things a bit busier overall.

That said, these were only minor issues, and they didn’t take away from what was otherwise a really enjoyable stay.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

We invested and bought the "old field" of which we developed and put a new driveway and entrance in, a brand new coded barrier, cctv with ANPR camera, pot washing area with lighting, wifi, CDP, toilet emptying point and grey water point, developed refuge area. Brand New Facilities Unit of which we put quite a lot of value on keeping it clean, so we have staff on, on a regular basis to facilitate this. There is a wardens caravan and wardens on site and they are around for help or questions. On average we keep it to 30 pitches and 50 during high peak weekends, We don't "pack in as many as possible" to "just get as much money as possible". We have plans for the next stage of development for next year ........ "just a field?"

I loved everything. This campsite was such a delightful spot to stay…

Liked I loved everything. This campsite was such a delightful spot to stay in. Penny was wonderful, I emailed her three separate times before my stay and she was amazing. We asked if we could check out late because we had gorge walking planned from early in the morning and Penny did not mind at all. The field is massive, the pitches are private and beautiful. The wardens on site are probably the friendliest campsite wardens I've ever met. They charged our phones for us in their caravan, and the lady even offered her sunbed when she saw me sitting on the floor! I can't emphasise how welcome they made us feel and how helpful they were. We were a group of three tents, my sister and her husband joined us a day later and the wardens were so lovely they stuck a reserved sign on the pitch next to ours for my sister. The toilets are cleaned twice a day, they are super cute and very clean! I loved the little toilet area and how nicely it had been done up, the washing up sinks and the shoe brush outside are all well looked after and made a great impression. This was my sister's first time camping and she found the facilities clean and so cute! There is a new shop on site, super convenient with food and all the little bits you might need when camping! There are fire pits to rent with wood, kindling and firestarters. Mam Tor, Kinder Scout, Bakewell, retaurants and walking sports are all nearby! I can't stress how amazing my stay here was and how kind the wardens were. Thank you so much to everyone involved in running this campsite for making our stay so wonderful, I would love to come back!!

Local attractions

Hikers can soon be out on the Monsal Trail (10 minutes’ drive), which offers spectacular views over Monsal Dale and the viaduct at Monsal Head. Kids will have fun crossing the stepping stones at Chee Dale (20 minutes), where you can all follow the River Wye through its limestone gorge. Alternatively, families may prefer to spend the day on cable-car rides at the Heights of Abraham (35 minutes), take vintage vehicle jaunts from Crich Tramway Village or enjoy dinosaur trails and adventure golf at Gulliver’s Kingdom (both 40 minutes). Peak District National Park culture vultures among you? As well as a farmyard where kids can meet the animals, stately Chatsworth House (20 minutes) is set in Capability Brown-designed parkland and has a fantastic art collection, while largely 12th-century Haddon Hall (25 minutes) is open for tours of its vaulted banqueting hall and formal Elizabethan gardens. The infamous ‘plague village’ of Eyam (five minutes’ drive) is packed with pretty stone cottages and cute tearooms, and there’s a craft centre at the Jacobean-era Eyam Hall. A former spa town, Buxton (25 minutes) has a lively cultural scene and an acclaimed opera house; book ahead for tickets.
