  • Family-run touring park just off the A4067 at Pen-y-Cae
  • Henrhyd Falls 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to Pen y Fan
  • Well-maintained heated bathroom block on site; pub next to entrance
Taking some time to explore the attractions of the Brecon Beacons National Park? Bag a berth at Brecon Beacons Touring Park and you’ll be making your base at a family-run park that’s in an excellent Powys position for getting out and about to see the stunning scenery of the southern and western parts of the park. Just off the A4067 between the villages of Pen-y-Cae and Ynyswen, when you stay at this park you’ll be well placed for visits to the nearby waterfalls, climbs of Pen y Fan and trips underground at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. There are heaps of hiking and bike trails around to follow as well – and if that's not enough to keep you busy, well, you can always set off for the seaside, as the beaches of the Gower Peninsula are less than an hour's drive away. This isn't a park with a long list of facilities, but what has been provided is well designed and well maintained – including the bathroom block, which has heating, a baby changing area and accessible facilities. There’s also a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area, and you’ll be allowed to bring along an off-ground barbecue to do your alfresco meals (although, in another handy location bonus, there also happens to be a food pub a couple of minutes’ walk away…)

Liked Spacious level pitches, toilets and showers spotless and warm. 2 lovely pubs within walking distance and a small community shop.
Owner very welcoming and informative. Walked to Henrhyd falls (4 mile round trip) but be warned it’s mostly uphill to get there, but was well worth it.

Liked Clean and well maintained site our pitch was flat. Site is located behind a nice dog friendly pub with a good outside seating area. The washing up facilities were good. The toilets and sinks clean but felt the showers could have been cleaner. Shop within walking distance and short drive to water fall. Secure site with a key card and code to facilitates. We were leant an extension lead to the ehu as our 10m one didn’t reach as they are shared with the next door pitch.

Disliked I used the larger shower which was one big wet room style. There was no where to place a wash bag and I was unable to change in the shower as the floor was soaking so it’s a poncho situation but the water was warm.

Liked Location was good for local attractions in and around the Brecon Beacons which we had intended on visiting. However the weather soon put paid to that as the rai was biblical. We intended to stay 3 nights but only stayed 2 due to the weather and other reasons to be dealt with in the next section. The site facilities were clean and there were codes and cards for the doors to, I assume, avoid the pub customers using them. On that subject there is a pub "The Ancient Briton" at the site entrance doing great food and beer. The owner sent detailed instructions via text prior to arrival as to the codes and pitch number which was useful. The owner turned up in the early evening to collect payment balance and to check all was okay.

Disliked We had a problem with there being no dog walk from the site other than a couple of hundred metres along a very busy road with narrow pavements. Through the village and across the road and there was an area down to the river where dogs could be walked, and we used this several times, but the walk through the village was traffic intense.

Liked Very friendly staff. Very clean facilities. Great to have the pub really close! The picnic benches were useful to use when the weather was changeable (so we didn't have to get our chairs in and out all the time!). Great location for attractions.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed our clean facilities, I’m always trying to improve or add so I may try to get more picnic benches for customers to use next season.
We look forward to seeing you again.

Local attractions

Hiking is a real highlight around here, whether you're keen to tick off the major sights or seek out quieter trails. Some of the popular spots nearby include Henrhyd Falls (10 minutes’ drive), the Four Waterfalls Walk (half an hour) and the trails taking you up South Wales’ tallest peak, Pen y Fan (half an hour). For more of an adrenaline rush, take yourselves to the all-weather trails of BikePark Wales (40 minutes) or ride the high-speed ziplines at Zip World Tower (20 minutes). All a bit too much? Settle for a quieter life with a visit to the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (five minutes), animal encounters at Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary (five minutes) or a tour and tipple at Penderyn Distillery (20 minutes). Change of scenery? Get down to the Gower Peninsula (around an hour) for beach days and coastal walks – places like Mumbles, Three Cliffs Bay and Rhossili are well worth the longer drive, and there are lots of lovely places to eat along the coast too.
