General

  • Small-scale site on a Snowdonia smallholding close to the A470
  • A 20-minute drive to Blaenau Ffestiniog; half an hour to Snowdon
  • Firepit areas with logs; 20 minutes’ walk to the village pub and shop

With walks around local mountains and lakes or zipwires, subterranean trampolines and mountain biking a short drive away, Camp Stesion is never too far from outdoorsy activities… that’s very good news for the active sorts.

Just as good news for view appreciators is that this laidback site is in a splendid part of Snowdonia and part of a small smallholding where mornings are marked by mountain views, or perhaps an early start to make the most of Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Zip World Slate Caverns and Antur Stiniog’s mountain biking trails (which are all 20 minutes’ drive away) or to climb Mount Snowdon (you'll have choice of six paths up to the summit about half an hour's drive away).

This is a small-scale campsite, so you get almost the same feeling as you would out in the wilds, just with the comforts of toilets, hot showers, an outdoor sink and drinking water.

There’s no wifi here, but there's good 4G coverage across the spacious pitches (each of which is about 300 square metres). In addition, each pitch has logs and a firepit to sit around. As this is a quiet area next to the village of Trawsfynydd, the peace is kept since loud music and motorhomes are not allowed.

Easy to get about? Another tick in the box. The site is just off the A470 and there’s a biking centre just 10 minutes’ drive away. Trawsfynydd is accessible on foot (20 minutes’ walk) and there, you’ll be able to grab basic supplies in the village shop or cosy in for a meal out in the local pub.

Logs, kindling, firelighters, marshmallows and sticks are available to buy from the mobile shop that does its rounds every evening on the site. Please note that there is a quarry nearby, and although it is very rare, there may be some noise between 10am and 3pm. Group bookings are not permitted, and the site only accepts bookings from couples and family members.

Small campsite with only around 10 pitches, but you were far enough away from others for it to feel very private.
You get your own fire pit and logs to sit on around it, along with a picnic table each too!
    Great location.
    Great views.
    Quiet campsite.
The owners came round to sell logs/kindling/marshmallows.
Toilets and showers are very clean.

    Disliked:

Couldn't go into the woods opposite, as it said they were private. Not a problem for us, but might be if got children with you.
