Coity Bach: Choose a place and enjoy the great space

General

  • Friendly site on a farm in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • Just over a mile's walk to pubs in Talybont-on-Usk
  • Meet the farm animals on site; bike hire available

Bed down in the Brecon Beacons National Park – and have yourself a slice of proper Powys farm life while you’re at it too. Coity Bach is a welcoming and friendly rural site on a farm just over a mile from the pretty little village of Talybont-on-Usk.

Budding farmhands can get stuck into various tasks on site, helping out with the goats and horses, while those in search of more relaxing times can simply settle down in a serene setting for idle hours on site. Either way, it’s worth staying awake until after dark if you can: there’s some great stargazing to be done here, and barbecues and campfires are both allowed to keep you warm while you do just that.

Off site, this is a popular place for hill walking, and town wanders are easily accessible at nearby Abergavenny, Hay-on-Wye and Crickhowell. It's excellent terrain for cycling too: hire a bike on site or have your own spruced up at the cycle shop in the village.

As for sprucing yourself up too, communal amenities on site include showers, toilets, a laundry area and a drying room; there are also charging and recycling facilities, and local produce for sale.

If you are indeed planning a barbecue or picnic (or just need snacks) the nearest big town for supplies is Brecon, 15 minutes’ drive away. To eat out, four pubs are within a mile and a half at Talybont-on-Usk.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Very friendly owner, good location, nice views, big pitch, although difficult to find flat spot. Hot shower and toilet, however, if you are a safety freak, you will run away after few seconds - bathroom and kitchen area is not very clean or safe, but it has its atmosphere and if you don't mind it, it is actually lovely :)

    Disliked:

Noise in the evening- very loud music.

Beautiful location in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. Fantastic skies. Quiet, friendly atmosphere. Lovely village with pubs (and bus stop) within walking distance.

    Disliked:

Very little guest orientation. Pitch on a bit of a slope (but manageable). Fairly basic amenities.

There was nothing about the venue that I liked.

    Disliked:

I did not stay but turned right back around and went home. I have requested a refund. There was nobody to welcome me when I arrived, in fact, it was clear that they were not expecting me and did not know about my booking. The location is not secluded, the hut overlooked the main property and other huts and camping sites are very close. You need to pay separately for the use of the hot tub which isn’t clear from the particulars. The hut is very small and smelled dank and had cobwebs in the windows. On the deck was a fridge freezer and the hot tub was just squeezed on the side. The area is not secluded or private. Behind the hut were two large rusty old boats and the camp site looked into the bedroom window. I hate to say it but I simply could not stay here and had to return home. It was so disappointing but the description of this location is not accurate at all and it wasn’t what I was expecting. Had I known, I would not have booked it.

Great site in rural South Wales, friendly hosts, fabulous location06/27/2022

  • Gypsy caravan (secluded)

Lots of animals, stunning scenery- just WOW, family run farm, very friendly, so much to do in the area. The secluded gypsy van is very rustic and basic. The Kitchen is a good walk back down to the main farm so bear this in mind- we picked up a thermos flask which we filled with hot water and also filled our hot water bottles while there. The flask stayed hot all night into the morning which was perfect. It was worth taking these back up with us as it meant we could have hot cups of tea! We managed to have a comfortable night sleep cwtched up nice and warm. I would recommend paying for the linen so you don’t have to carry it up the hill to the caravan. We loved the animals roaming freely around the field we were staying. We were greeted by a sheep in the morning. You really feel like you are in the heart of South Wales. The hosts were warm and helpful. We would stay again. The facility’s were good for the price we paid- do not book the secluded gypsy van if you want luxury as you will not get it. This is a true escape to nature experience where you can disconnect for a couple of days. Lovely walking routes, great pubs, would recommend the breakfast in the local cafe. We sadly didn’t get to have the farms breakfast platter but it looked amazing. My 12 year old daughter loved it- she didn’t ask for her phone all weekend! A winner! Thank you Coity Bach we will be back.

    Disliked:

There is a partially erected shed at the side of the gypsy caravan it would be nice to see this finished.

Local attractions

Being in the Brecon Beacons, this is naturally excellent hillwalking territory – you can head straight out onto paths directly from the farm, or ask your hosts for tips on local routes including the Taff Trail, Henry Vaughan walk and Usk Valley Walk. If you’re trying to tick off a mountain or two, make a beeline for Pen y Fan (20 minutes’ drive) or the Sugar Loaf (35 minutes)

For a bigger variety of alfresco activities, head to Llangorse Lake (20 minutes) for rock climbing, watersports and horse riding outings. Closer by, Cantref Adventure Farm (15 minutes) has riding lessons and horseback treks, plus all sorts of family antics including crazy golf, tractor rides and Europe’s longest sledge ride (oh, and pig racing…)

The natural scenery around here is spectacular, of course – and the towns are pretty too. Crickhowell (20 minutes), Abergavenny (half an hour) and bookshop-filled Hay-on-Wye (35 minutes) are all worth a wander.

Must see

  • Brecon Mountain Railway (12.1 kilometres)
