  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views over Cardigan Bay
  • A 35-minute walk from New Quay; footpath to the Wales Coast Path
  • Shops and pubs in New Quay; playground and dog exercise area on site
Raring to go dolphin-spotting on the Wales Coast Path or fishing on a boat trip from New Quay? Very well – here’s Tyr Ffynnon Farm, an advantageous base for such coastal adventures. With 180-degree views over Cardigan Bay and a location just 35 minutes’ walk from New Quay, it would have been a shame to keep this quiet 38-acre working sheep farm for sheep only. Now, families and dogs (on leads) are welcome to come and relax at the elevated peninsular spot. There are plenty of walking areas away from the traffic – and just a couple of hundred metres from the entrance, there’s a public footpath where guests can join the Wales Coast Path. Spectacular views and the chance to spot dolphins… yes please. The coastal path passes through lively New Quay, where activities such as boat trips, sailing, fishing and watersports are on the agenda. Also called Cei Newydd, New Quay has a pretty harbour, sandy beaches and a sound selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for all your foodie desires. The pièce de resistance at Tyr Ffynnon Farm surely has to be the sublime sea-view sunsets that can be seen from the site. Other ace features include the modern shower and toilet facilities, which have hot electric showers, wash basins, toilets, electric hand dryers and electric sockets for hairdryers (in the ladies’ only) and a shaver point (in the gents’). Those with mini family members will also be pleased to find a playground and a fenced dog exercise area on site. Bonus points – the peaceful, friendly site is 20 minutes’ drive from Aberaeron, 35 minutes from Cardigan and 45 minutes from Aberystwyth.

What customers say

Lovely views, grand atmosphere and sound owners. Pitches are decent and the facilities are grand. Coastal walks are a treat, though the road in can be a bit tight and showers cost extra. Queues now and then. Great for a chilled break.

Liked Beautiful view, walk path along the sea.

Disliked Pay as you go shower. Prefer it was all inclusive, no coins no shower.

From the manager: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.
We are sorry however, that you were disappointed re our charge for showers.
Initially, our showers were free of charge, but unfortunately this meant that they were open to abuse by some guests. For example, bathing dogs, washing wetsuits, washing dishes, washing laundry, showers left running, children causing damage, guests spending up to and over 1 hour in them leading to the inconvenience of other guests. All of the above is just a snapshot of the massively significant problems that we had experienced whilst they were free of charge. It was therefore considered prudent to make a charge of between 20p and £1 depending upon the length of time the shower is iin use (around 60p has been found to be the average). This charge has significantly countered many of the problems that we had previously experienced. We haven’t increased this charge in the three years since its introduction despite the massive rises in water and electricity costs to us.
It is worthy of note to mention here, that guests should be aware of this charge, before a booking is made, as this information is provided within the Pitchup description.
We do also carry plenty of change if required.
Nonetheless, thank you do much for staying with us, we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay-you are welcome back at any time.

Electric grass pitch (sea view)

Liked Even in peak season toilets and shower block kept very clean. Nice warm welcome on arrival. Nice location overlooking the sea. Nice areas for kids to play in right outside our tents. Site not over crowded even in peak season. Nice walk along the coast to town. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay we definately be back. Ended up staying an extra night.

Disliked We walked to town down via the coastal route and found it safer than the road just a little longer. The walk to town is along a norrow lane and didnt like there wasnt really a safe route when walking along with kids with cars coming towards you. Ended up having a taxi back which we were happy to do instead of walking back up the hill i think taxi was around £7. Just a minor issue if wanting to walk but not to detract from an amazing stay here. If only there was a path across to the main road a486 and then can walk the path down.

Electric grass pitch (sea view)

Liked Beautiful spot, wonderful views (right across Cardigan Bay - stunning), clean and well-maintained toilets/showers (you'll need to bring £1 coins for those), well laid out (caravans only round the outside of the field).

Disliked Access road is narrow and nearly a mile - we were glad not to meet a caravan coming the other way.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review-we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.
Just for the benefit of any other potential guests
-the access lane is 0.9 of a mile long with 9 passes places. Unfortunately the council has failed to cut the hedges back, despite numerous requests to do so, which makes it appear narrower than it actually is.
Showers are 20p-£1 dependant upon how long they are used for. We have found that the average usage cost is around 60p.
Thanks again for staying with us-we are always happy to welcome lovely guests back at any time😊

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The view is amazing all around, owners are friendly, it is a perfect location for New Quay and surrounding areas, main toilet area is clean.

Disliked The children's playground was a bit neglected, stinging nettles surrounding every peice of equipment. My 3 year old was stung within 2 hours of being there and then too scared to go back in.
Old toilet block was very dirty.

From the manager: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the stunning views, great location and our lovely main field toilet/shower facilities.
I am sorry that your son was stung by nettles in the play area. As you can see from the surrounding areas, everything is very arid due to virtually no rainfall for weeks. However, a sudden but short burst of rain has allowed a few nettles to pop up unexpectedly and virtually instantly. Now that we are aware, they will be dealt with immediately.
The old ‘toilet block’ that you refer to is mostly locked up awaiting renovations. We did however allow campers on the rear field to use just one toilet that we opened up for convenience. This toilet is very old and tired but certainly not dirty and is totally functional. It is explained, on arrival, that our conveniences are located on the main field and are of lovely quality and maintained to a high standard. It is also explained that the afore mentioned rear field toilet is not of high standard albeit it clean and very useable but the choice is there should you wish to use it. Fortunately we have recently received permission that allows us to add more ablution facilities to the site which will be completed ready for the new season.
Thank you for staying with us and for your mostly positive review.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Beautiful location with stunning sea views. Perfect to catch sunsets and sunrises. Pitches are very spacious. Convenient water and Elsan points. We walked the spectacular coastline into New Quay hoping to see Dolphins. Took us about 45 mins and not too challenging. An absolute must.

Local attractions

Days out in Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive) – a regency town with a Georgian harbour and multi-coloured houses – could be spent taking yet more coastal walks, tucking into tapas and scallops around the harbour or licking a honey-flavoured ice cream by the sea. Strolls or fishing along the river Teifi might make it onto your itinerary in Cardigan (35 minutes). The town’s castle is on the riverside and has its own escape room. Another historical spot is in St Dogmaels (40 minutes), where there are abbey ruins with medieval roots. Aberystwyth (45 minutes) is much more than a university town. It’s also home to the National Library of Wales, a free museum and heaps of interesting shops. Elsewhere along the coast, Penbryn beach (25 minutes) is accessed through woodlands from the Wales Coast Path. A short detour from here will get you to Tresaith Waterfall (25 minutes).
