Raring to go dolphin-spotting on the Wales Coast Path or fishing on a boat trip from New Quay? Very well – here’s Tyr Ffynnon Farm, an advantageous base for such coastal adventures. With 180-degree views over Cardigan Bay and a location just 35 minutes’ walk from New Quay, it would have been a shame to keep this quiet 38-acre working sheep farm for sheep only. Now, families and dogs (on leads) are welcome to come and relax at the elevated peninsular spot. There are plenty of walking areas away from the traffic – and just a couple of hundred metres from the entrance, there’s a public footpath where guests can join the Wales Coast Path. Spectacular views and the chance to spot dolphins… yes please. The coastal path passes through lively New Quay, where activities such as boat trips, sailing, fishing and watersports are on the agenda. Also called Cei Newydd, New Quay has a pretty harbour, sandy beaches and a sound selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for all your foodie desires. The pièce de resistance at Tyr Ffynnon Farm surely has to be the sublime sea-view sunsets that can be seen from the site. Other ace features include the modern shower and toilet facilities, which have hot electric showers, wash basins, toilets, electric hand dryers and electric sockets for hairdryers (in the ladies’ only) and a shaver point (in the gents’). Those with mini family members will also be pleased to find a playground and a fenced dog exercise area on site. Bonus points – the peaceful, friendly site is 20 minutes’ drive from Aberaeron, 35 minutes from Cardigan and 45 minutes from Aberystwyth.

Liked The owners - friendly, welcoming and really helpful.
The site - clearly marked, well kept grass pitches with a slight slope (nothing a levelling ramp didn’t cure!)
Peace and quiet - watching and listening to the extensive wildlife was just great. Deliberately chose Tyr Ffynnon to enjoy walks to New Quay along the coastal path a 5 minute downhill walk away. Didn’t disappoint. Saw dolphins from the observation post along the way.
The view - stayed at the lower end of the main field near, the lane up from the road, and we could see for miles around and had a great view of the sea
Stunning sunsets.
Cleanliness of the toilet block.

Liked Easy to book, very clean, organised, friendly, sea views, short walk to the coastal path, short drive to New Quay, reasonable price, drinking water.

Disliked My pitch was a bit of a walk to the toilets & showers. Only 2 showers , 2 toilets & 2 sinks in the ladies block; fortunately it wasn't busy.

Disliked Narrow road to get in in a motorhome but is drivable, showers 20p pitches already expensive

From the manager: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and the stunning views. Unfortunately the last part of the approach lane appears narrower than it really is due to the council being slow this year in cutting back the hedges. It is very accessible however, and is only 0.9 miles long. Worthy of note also is that it a no through road with only a few homes along it-therefore not a busy thoroughfare.
Our rates are very competitive for New Quay and we try our best to keep them reasonable despite the huge increase in costs to us.
Thank you so much for staying with us and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay overall

Liked The views were stunning, loved how kind the owner was, the dog exercise field was a bonus! Pitches were lovely and spacious. It was a lovely small, quiet site. If you want peace and quiet this is your site.

Only thing to be aware of is to bring a long EHU or an extension as the hook ups are far apart, BUT the campsite owner does have plenty of spares.

Local attractions

Days out in Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive) – a regency town with a Georgian harbour and multi-coloured houses – could be spent taking yet more coastal walks, tucking into tapas and scallops around the harbour or licking a honey-flavoured ice cream by the sea. Strolls or fishing along the river Teifi might make it onto your itinerary in Cardigan (35 minutes). The town’s castle is on the riverside and has its own escape room. Another historical spot is in St Dogmaels (40 minutes), where there are abbey ruins with medieval roots. Aberystwyth (45 minutes) is much more than a university town. It’s also home to the National Library of Wales, a free museum and heaps of interesting shops. Elsewhere along the coast, Penbryn beach (25 minutes) is accessed through woodlands from the Wales Coast Path. A short detour from here will get you to Tresaith Waterfall (25 minutes).
