  • Peaceful Perthshire site within the grounds of Scone Palace
  • A 15-minute drive to Perth; Tay Forest Park 25 minutes
  • Member price shown; non-members select £7.50/night extra
You’ve probably heard of Scone Palace already – this ancient building was the place where Scottish kings were crowned for centuries, and it’s now a popular Perthshire tourist attraction. And now here’s a chance to get to know the place in a different way – Scone Camping and Caravanning Club Site is set within the grounds of the royal palace, allowing you to follow in the footsteps of all those former kings. There’s no direct access to the palace itself from the campsite, but it’s only about a 15-minute walk to the main site, with its café, kitchen garden and playground as well as the iconic building. The site is managed by the Camping and Caravanning Club but it’s open to all customers, with discounted rates available for members (you’ll just need to make sure you select the correct membership option on your booking). Spacious pitches here are set up on a peaceful and pretty tree-lined site that’s also home to plentiful wildlife (keep your eyes open for deer, ospreys and black rabbits while you’re here). Kids and dogs are welcome (with a play area for the former and a dog walk area for the latter) and barbecues are also permitted for a bit of outdoor cookery. Everyday essentials are covered too, including a motorhome service point, a launderette, wifi and modern bathrooms with a family shower room and accessible facilities. The site shop covers lots of the basics, and there are more options for shopping and eating out in Scone village (five minutes’ drive).

What customers say

A grand spot, always spotless & staff a dote. Plenty of room on the pitches, showers are class. Great for dogs. WiFi can be iffy, and mind your pitch choice for the views. Shop's shut, but the location's grand.

Electric gravel pitch (maximum 9 metres)

Liked This site was great. I particularly loved the well thought out family bath, which had been designed with childrens fun and comfort in mind, as well as always being warm it was lovely to see it decorated. The communal room with book and games was a brilliant space, especially for wet days.

Disliked The only thing I feel could be improved is the lack of open space for children to play. While the play park has a great set up, there is a lack of available space to with every corner of grass stating "no ball games". While understandable, there is a nook beside the play park behind some trees that would be perfect as a designated ball game area, if the picnic bench weren't there.

Electric gravel pitch (maximum 9 metres)

Liked We had a very friendly welcome and were shown to our pitch, a map of the site was given to us and details of how to pitch. The staff work very hard to keep the site clean and well maintained. The site was quiet and we were given a 10% discount voucher to use at the restaurant in the hotel next door. Accessible via the A9 and good roads to get in. Handy site to visit Perth and we also visited Pitlochry and Hightower Castle.

Disliked Feel with this site it depends what pitch you get allocated as some are much better than others. Unfortunately we ended up in a corner with a view of the back of the staff accommodation and facing caravans just across from us.

The facilities block was clean but there didn't seem enough toilets/showers for the amount of people on the site. There isn't anywhere to eat or a shop nearby or in walking distance fortunately there is a restaurant at the hotel next door which we used a couple of times. The WiFi was awful.

Probably being picky but I'm not sure why the waste/recycling bins are through the security barrier, past reception in the furthest corner of the car park. I did two laps around the amenity block where I presumed they were before having to consult the map and trek off to them!

Electric gravel pitch (maximum 8 metres)

Liked Lovely friendly greeting upon arrival, nice gesture being escorted to the pitch.

Disliked 10:30-12:00 toilet block closed for cleaning would be more logical to attend to the facilities between 12:00-13:00 when all departing guests should have gone and new guests yet to check in

Electric grass touring caravan, tent or trailer tent pitch (jumbo)

Liked Clean and friendly site
Toilets and showers in good condition
Jumbo pitches are big enough for large tents
Very quiet
Lovely area
Got to see lots of horses being walked around due to proximity of race course

Disliked They have shut their shop so don't expect to be able to pick up supplies or emergency equipment whilst there. Needs removing from the website if permanent.
Needed to purchase an extension cable for the hookup

Local attractions

You’ll have to start by visiting the palace, of course – there’s plenty to fill a whole day here as you roam the gardens, find out about the Stone of Destiny and explore the gorgeous interiors. Look out for special events too, including Highland cow experiences, circus skills sessions, horse trials and the famed annual Game Fair in early July. It’s not the only grand historic building around here, either – you may also like to visit places like Falkland Palace & Garden (35 minutes’ drive) and Castle Campbell (45 minutes) for more impressive heritage. There’s also the Black Watch Castle and Museum in Perth (15 minutes) – and while you’re in the city you can visit the art gallery and theatre or take a walk alongside the River Tay. If you’d like to see some more of the scenery, perhaps take your bikes to the trails of Kinnoull Hill (15 minutes), go for a wander in Tay Forest Park (25 minutes) or take the family to Active Kids Adventure Park (10 minutes) for both outdoor and indoor activities.
