Quality Bell Tent

  • Glamping in a peaceful walled garden on the outskirts of Edinburgh
  • City centre and Fringe Festival venues 10 minutes’ drive/20 mins' bus
  • Bell tents with beds and bedding; showers, charging zone and security
Heading to Edinburgh for festival season and looking for a great place to stay a little way away from the city’s crowds? Get a little way out of the centre to Edinburgh Festival Glamping, tucked away in the walled garden at the peaceful Merchiston Castle estate. This gorgeous setting is an easy 10 minutes' drive from the city centre, with local bus services also making it easy to travel around. That means it’s a fine spot for those planning to take in events at Edinburgh’s summer festivals or just tour the sights of the city they call ‘Auld Reekie’. Away from the busy city streets you’ll feel like you're living in a little secret garden here – and a peaceful one too, with no amplified music allowed during the quiet hours of 10pm to 7am. There’s 24-hour security to keep guests nice and safe, and there are other safety rules in place too (such as barbecues being kept to designated areas and smoking, vaping and open fires not being allowed within five metres of the tents). Speaking of the tents, they're designed to make life nice and easy for guests – each of the five-metre bell tents sleeps up to four, with beds, bedding and pillows provided (just remember to bring your own towels…). The tents are lockable for extra peace of mind, and you can bring your own padlock or buy one at check-in. Shared facilities include toilets, showers, wifi, car parking, a charging zone for your gadgets and a campfire area for chilled evenings of stoking the flames.

Bell tent

Liked There were plenty of toilets and showers available on the site, accesible and clean .

Disliked The single beds within Edinburgh festival bell tents were very hard , they were two mats placed together to create a single base, they had the appearance of a gymnastic type mat and were extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. If you are able to get to sleep !

The address for Edinburgh festival glamping site on booking email for the site was incorrect resulting in a delayed journey. This is not professional to have outdated information on correspondence.

A deposit of £50,was taken on arrival and was explained would be refunded on departure, this did not happen. It took 4 weeks of phone calls and emails before finally the £50 deposit was returned.

Bell tent

Liked Great price value accommodation during fringe. Nice reception and clean tent. Overall a good vibe

Disliked Bit far from the city centre and you don't know in which tent village you end up when you book.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the lovely feedback. We’re really pleased you found the accommodation great value during the Fringe, enjoyed the atmosphere and found both the reception and your tent clean and welcoming.

We completely appreciate the comment regarding the distance from the city centre. Providing affordable accommodation during the Edinburgh Festival means operating a little further out, although the site has public transport connections into the city.

Regarding the tent village/location, this year was slightly unusual as we had to make some operational changes to the original site arrangements. For future bookings, we are looking at ways of making the exact location clearer much earlier in the booking process.

Thanks again for staying with us and for the balanced feedback. We hope we might welcome you back for another Fringe!

Bell tent

Liked It was close to the zoo.

Disliked The campsite was not as advertised the toilets didn't work for 2 days we were there the tent had water in it as had been incorrectly put up. We left a day early due to the issies and when I tried to contact the company to complain I got ignored and when I did get a responce form pitch up I got fobbed off and told to contact the camp site who I cant contact cuz they wont respond. All in all I stars from me. Wont be using again.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay; however, we do feel it is important to clarify a few points for anyone reading this review.

Regarding the water inside your tent, our team discussed this with you during your stay and identified that a window had been left open by you, which unfortunately allowed rainwater to enter the accommodation. This was not due to the tent being incorrectly erected.

We must also correct the statement that the toilets were not working for two days. We had 12 toilets available on site, and it is not accurate to suggest that guests were left without toilet facilities for a two-day period.

We were also disappointed that these concerns were not raised with our team earlier during your stay, as this would have given us the opportunity to address them at the time. It was on your final day, at reception, that you raised your grievances and advised that you were seeking a full refund.

Our team were available on site throughout your stay to assist guests with any issues, and we would always encourage guests to speak with us as soon as a problem arises so that we have the opportunity to resolve it.

We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, but we do not believe the circumstances described accurately reflect the facilities provided or the situation during your stay.

Bell tent

Liked New and well put-up tents which were clean, comfortable sleeping, good facilities (toilets, showers, wifi, firepit, etc.). Relatively peaceful on site, which is so important. Lovely setting, and a good location with easy bus connections.

Disliked There was blaring music when we arrived Tues 19 Aug from the central campsite speaker, which went on until 10.30pm, despite a campsite rule of quiet from 10am. The showers blocked and water overflowed, and needed more attention to either prevent blocking, or deblock them or clean them better. I also thought the £3 parking charge was a bit unnecessary given the overall cost.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re really pleased you enjoyed the comfort of our new tents, the peaceful setting, and the facilities on site – it’s great to know these helped make your stay enjoyable.

We’re very sorry about the music disturbance when you arrived – this is not typical of our site and we will ensure the quiet hours policy is upheld more consistently in future. Thank you also for highlighting the shower issue; we’ve since increased the frequency of checks and maintenance to keep them in better condition for all guests.

Regarding parking, the small charge helps us with the upkeep of the grounds and facilities, but we’ll keep reviewing this to make sure it feels fair and transparent.

We really appreciate your comments as they help us improve, and we’d love to welcome you back for an even smoother stay next time.

Liked Nice new tent, Good matrsss and bedding. We had good weather so the nights were not too cold.
BBQ and relnxing area much appreciated.

Disliked Showers were always muddy. Of course you cannot prevent that with the wet terrain. Why not add a few floor squeegees, for the guests to use. Happy to clean up my own shower floor for the next guest.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your feedback - we’re glad you enjoyed the tent, bedding, and the relaxing BBQ area!

Regarding the showers, we clean them a minimum of twice a day, but as you mentioned, with the natural terrain there can still be some residue from guests in between cleans. Your suggestion about adding floor squeegees is a great idea, and we’ll look at providing these so everyone can help keep the area fresh for the next person.

We really appreciate your comments and hope to welcome you back again soon!
