General

  • Family-run, family-friendly and welcoming site
  • Play meadow with bikes and ride-on tractors
  • Excellent facilities including hot showers, barbecues and shop

Kids do love this Somerset site. As do their folks, and other grownups, and sorts who come for nearby Longleat Safari Park or to plunge into the ancient splendours of nearby Bath and Cheddar…

Although it's not a big site, family-run Pitchperfect Camping is perfectly set up for stays – '[we were] looked after better than some 5* hotels' was the verdict of one previous guest – with first-rate facilities, friendly welcoming hosts, and tiptop views of the surrounding Somerset countryside.

As you'd expect, this is a family-friendly site and has baby bathing and baby changing facilities available among its clean amenities; for childish leisure, there's a big grass meadow for running around in and/or zooming around on bikes or ride-on tractors, and a playground with swings, a slide, a sandpit and a trampoline. A toy box with board games and toys as well as a book swap shelf are also handy if needed.

Site facilities include free hot showers, a family unit also suitable for disabled guests, and a field shelter with washing-up area, two fridges and freezers, a kettle and a toaster. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available for a reasonable charge.

The Pitchperfect shop is small but well stocked, selling local produce including the site's own fresh free-range eggs and homegrown veg, locally produced beer and (a must in these parts) crisp Somerset cider.

The site also has brick barbecues for the free use of anyone who fancies it – because gathering around a grill for a picnic is pretty pitch-perfect on holiday too…

The lady and gentleman who owned the campsite where likeable from the moment we arrived! Very useful on information, facilities were always clean and had more than we needed. We were able to rent fire pits that come with a bucket of wood, firefighters, kindling, and even a pack of marshmallows! Due to it being out of season we were told to just camp where we liked on an pitch which was nice! Had nice little play area smack bang in middle of the campsite with a giant trampoline, swing set and a few other bits. (Being a smaller campsite no matter where your camped parents could sit at there tents and easily keep an eye on kids).

Not a real issue here but we wasn’t told that renting a fire-pit is per night (£10) so we went out for the day and brought some firewood back from Tesco’s because we were getting back later (20.30) to find the fire-pit had gone :( ....... however we rang the mobile number they gave us and even though it was out of hours and they were eating supper they kindly came and brought one back for us. So absolute 5 star rating for keeping the customers happy!!

Pub is about a 15min walk from campsite. Bath is a 25 min drive.
Trowbridge or Frome 10/12mins (have Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s and other shops for bits and pieces).
Longleat safari park is about 15/20mins.

Would highly recommend this campsite to anyone!!! Great price for all the facilities and closeness to local attractions and places!

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but wasn’t told that renting a fire-pit is per night. So came back from day trip out to find the firepit had gone and it was out of hours. But phoned the mobile number to ask about it and they kindly came and brought us one.

The family running the site were really friendly and helpful with local attractions and things to do

    Disliked:

Nothing but not particularly picturesque. It is basically a large field - no spectacular views but beautiful surrounding countryside and villages. Beds very basic futons and quite hard. Glad we took SIMs

We went with 7 other families and stayed in the group section. We had a fantastic weekend - hired a fire pit and the breakfast wagon in the morning was a life saver!
Lots of things for the children to do..the trampoline was a big hit.
Facilities were very clean and the kitchen was great. We will definitely return.

    Disliked:

It was a long walk to the toilet block (but they were brilliant facilities),
We could have done with another basket of wood for the fire but ended up driving off site at night to the local garage to get some more.

Very good clean facilities. Friendly staff. Large open field for pitches. Play area in middle for younger children - great for keeping an eye on little ones. Communal fridge, freezer, toasters, kettles, microwave - even shelves of 'if you need it, take it' left over items.
Good location for visiting surrounding areas.
BBQs available and fire pits available - with wood and marshmallows (but costs extra).

    Disliked:

Not enough electric pitches. Bottom non electric pitches uneven with pot holes.
Fire pits cost £10 a night - expensive when you're looking for a cheap getaway.

Local attractions

You might not be too flabbergasted to learn that nearby Somerset spa town and UNESCO World Heritage Site Bath is best known for its baths from the times of togas, including The Roman Baths complex with bathhouse and temple, restaurant and museum.

While you're in town, also have a wander around Bath Abbey, the Jane Austen Centre and, for a dip, to the Thermae Bath Spa; if you're around in the evenings, have a music, comedy or club night at award-winning Komedia in the former Beau Nash Picture House.

Other visitors to these parts quite rightly make it a mission to delve into the grate sights of Cheddar Caves and Gorge, the splendid limestone gorge grooved into the Mendip Hills, and of Wookey Hole Caves, the vast caverns to the southern side of the hills.

You could also have a day in Bristol, for its museums, galleries, theatres, live music and over 4,000 listed buildings, and one or two in Shepton Mallet, for the many events of the Bath and West Showground.

Must see

  • Longleat (6.4 miles)
  • American Museum in Britain (6.8 miles)
