Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surfer types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surfer types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in the village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family holidays. The well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include purpose-built toilets and showers, and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with a mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. Guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

A spotless, peaceful site near beach & village. Lovely facilities (showers, toilets, hairdryers!). Pitches can be cosy, but friendly staff (especially Stu!) & the no-music rule make it a return destination for many.

Liked Lovely campsite, really close to the village and a 10 minute walk to the beach.
It's very peaceful and the pitches are really spacious.
Great facilities, washing up area, free hot showers and they also supply freezers to put your food in!
I felt very safe here as a solo female.
Would definitely stay here again if visiting the area.

Liked Lovely welcome , great spacious pitch.
Facilities are good, hook up, water, showers, toilets . Hairdryers and straighteners provided in ladies bathroom is a great touch
Well kept site, clean and tidy.
Great views and a short walk into village and to the beach.
Surf hire also available

Disliked Not much privacy in the showers unless you are a family who can use the family shower

Cold water to wash up, understand owners reasons but wasn't great for us trying to wash pans in cold water

Liked Short walk from the beach, clean campsite and well looked after. Washing up facilities were really good and was super clean!

Nice flat pitches, perfect for tents

Disliked Shower stalls are quite small, not a complaint but a just in case!

Liked We love the site, just remember it is a camping site. It has great bathroom facilities that were spotless, really generous pitches. The site is quiet at all times. Our interactions with safe was polite. Areas fro wetsuits etc. the location is a stones throw to the pubs and a short walk to the beach.

Liked Lovely little campsite a short walk from Croyde bay beach. Bodyboard and surfboard hire available. Good showers, sinks for washing up and a place to rinse off wetsuits etc. Decent Wi-Fi on site. Would definitely stay here again.

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
