What customers say

Lovely spot with great views, very chilled. Clean facilities, big pitches, handy walk to the beach. Cafe and bar with music a hit. A few minor shower/pressure issues and some event noise, but most found it peaceful and would come back.

Shepherd's hut (three person)

Liked Accommodation was excellent, really well thought out. Water in the shower was warm, the hut itself was also so warm, we couldn't believe it! The hut was tucked away in it's own little corner and was private, it had its own car parking space. The restaurant on site served the most delicious vegan breakfasts and lunches! We loved getting some cakes and a hot drink to take back to the hut, the Pastal de Natas were just amazing. The chocolate cookies were also to die for but were only available once - I nearly cried haha! The mushroom roll (sounds boring to some) was delicious. We couldn't fault the food at the canteen whatsoever, we wanted to go everyday. We also attended the live music one night and had vegan pizzas, it was so nice to just stay at the site on the odd night and just chill having nice food without having to venture out.

The site was also well located for day trips in the car to places like St Ives, St Ives Bay, Falmouth, Newquay, Mousehole and Land's End etc. They were still a drive away, but not long enough to put us off! The other option was to visit the local beach which was just amazing, especially at dusk when the dog could come with us. It's a stunning beach with cheap parking. The sauna at The Unicorn pub also looked great and you could take a dip in the stream afterwards! The local village hall also had a sound bath every Wednesday night for £15. So much to do!

My only tips would be to add blinds to all windows in the hut. Only one window had a blind, some had linen curtains you could see straight through at night when the lights were on inside, and then two windows (the small kitchen one and the window in the front door) had no blind or curtain and people would be able to see us and our baby sleeping if they really wanted to. I was very paranoid! We had to put towels up at the windows which was a bit ridiculous. The other tip would be to upgrade the tea towels (and maybe provide more than 1 for a 6 night stay) and pillows as they were poor quality and would be an easy win for the owners. More than one toilet roll for a 6 night stay would also be appreciated! Other than that, it was bang on and we will be booking to visit the site again!

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Spacious pitches. Views were great from some pitches.

Disliked Eco toilets were overflowing. Flushing toilets were filthy, as were the showers. Very steep footpath leading down to road then to beach.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Excellent park, nice vibe, clean, accessible. Water point and electric hook up per bay easily accessible. There was a couple of communal event evenings during our stay. It was nice to have the option to join in, or not if you wished & they finished in good time for we went to bed.

Disliked Personal preference but the compost toilets weren't great. They where often messy (just with the sawdust, nothing else) but id suggest that is a me problem rather than a them problem 😊

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch (large, wild)

Liked Location & view

Disliked Reception was difficult to contact. We felt like an inconvenience. Signage to camping area is poor. Right hand turn at entrance is marked parking when actually it leads to all the camping areas. Drop toilets didn’t have any wood chip and were pretty unbearable. Toilet roll should be provided in some way or guests should be informed before arriving.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch (large, wild)

Liked We stayed here last year and had to come back! It’s so peaceful with stunning scenery, and the morning coffee is excellent. The site is mostly flat, making it ideal for campervans. The showers are hot and well-maintained, with the option of a family shower or separate ones, and the provided kettle was really handy.

Disliked Our only suggestion would be to have mirrors above all three sinks rather than just one, as it can get busy when people are getting ready in the morning or evening.

Mars Eco Pod camping pod (two person)

Liked The quiet corner the pod is situated in, beautiful surroundings, camping atmosphere, very laidback and close to the ocean.

Disliked The mattress had springs that caused sore spots, I could feel them through the mattress deck, very umcomfortable.

Local attractions

Porthtowan beach will almost certainly be your first stop (possibly even the very minute you’ve dropped your bags off) but then what? Well, perhaps a walk along the South West Coast Path to see some more of that coastal scenery (Chapel Porth and the Wheal Coates mine are not far off), or a direct route to one of the other gorgeous beaches – perhaps Gwithian (15 minutes’ drive) or Perranporth (20 minutes). A stop in the lovely village of St Agnes (10 minutes) is a must, and art lovers will surely also want to head over to St Ives (25 minutes) to explore Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum. The north Cornwall coast has plenty to keep you busy for many a day, but if you fancy a change of scenery it’s not far to get to the south coast for days at Falmouth, Trebah Garden, Glendurgan Garden and Gyllyngvase beach (all about half an hour away).
