General

  • Glamping site in the Surrey Hills, 10 minutes' drive from Redhill
  • Less than an hour's journey from central London by train
  • Chessington World of Adventures half an hour's drive away

If you’re searching for a base for a varied holiday – think lazy woodland strolls one day, adrenaline-filled theme park adventures the next, and a bit of sightseeing in the capital for good measure – get yourself to Alderstead Heath Experience Freedom Glamping.

This peaceful and family-friendly site is surrounded by woodland in the Surrey Hills, 10 minutes’ drive from Redhill town centre. This is a particularly fine spot for cyclists and walkers, as it’s handy for the North Downs and close to a network of off-road trails, such as the Pilgrims’ Way, and themed walks including the Tilgate Forest Trail and Wandle Art Trail.

For a change of pace (and heart rate) there’s a clutch of theme parks conveniently close to base. Chessington World of Adventures is half an hour’s drive away – it also has a Go Ape adventure park, a Sea Life Centre and a zoo to really wear you (and, perhaps more importantly, the kids) out. If you haven’t quite got your adrenaline fix, Thorpe Park is about 40 minutes from the site.

It’s also easy to make a day trip to London while you’re here – catch a fast service at Redhill train station and you can be checking out the bright lights of the capital within an hour.

Take a break from full-pelt activity for some time on site: there's a playground and playing field here, plus a wifi connection to help plan shenanigans for the following day. A handy launderette is also on site to help sort any muck acquired on days out.

    Fab little Staycation.
This was our first time Glamping as a family the Pod we stayed in was perfect. It had all everything we needed and more. It was clean and well equipped. It was a perfect base for us and was lovely coming back after a packed day ( Go Ape, Boating, Wildlife Parks, Chessington) to relax, bbq and watch my boy play in the park or with his scooter, football in plenty of space.

These glamping pods are a home from home, in a peaceful setting. The staff are very friendly!

    The pod has everything

A fridge with a tiny freezer area
    Television
Radio system with ceiling speakers - was lovely to enter to music

Lots of storage space, I loved the double bed which is stored in the wall once opened you have your bed side shelves with light switches and a place for your phone. When not in use the bed folds in to the wall and a sofa appears with an additional table underneath it!

The kitchenette is well formed with a microwave, cleaning spray, washing up liquid already provided. The main cooking is done on the outside purpose built barbecue so bring lighting stuff! They provide coal in a self lighting kit for one day, so when planning, cook everything that requires cooking from raw / already seasoned. I didn't have a pan but was able to improvise with some metal containers and made scrambled eggs, delicious.

Then bring meals that could be warned in the microwave

The bunk bed is very comfortable, the stairs for the top bunk is stored on the bathroom door

Bedding was provided for the top bunk and the double bed I could not find it for the bottom bunk, we had our own so no problem.

The bathroom is great once again lots of storage space and a good size shower. Don't forget your toilet paper as you are camping after all lol!

The outside deck is very large and has a table with a shade umbrella

Extra storage box on the decking

The bins are a few feet away near to the parking where you have an allocated bay

We had such a fun time staying here, I also took away many great storage ideas for my home.

    Lots of rabbits and birds!

This is probably the longest review I have ever written, because I hope you will find it useful

Thanks to all of the staff

Nearly everything, great location, quiet, and immersed in nature. My son loved the playground and the friendly tabby cat visiting in the morning. Plenty to do nearby.

    Disliked:

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the fridge in the pod is far too noisy for an open space sleeping accommodation. Everything else was to an excellent standard.

From the manager...

Thanks for leaving us a review Erica, we will check that fridge as it should not be noisy ~ Jo
