Guests from all over have been to Morelands Copse Camping, and they often end up staying for longer than they planned, or quickly returning. So what is it that inspires such enthusiasm? Well, the location’s a pretty good start – it has four acres of secluded and private Hampshire countryside, with views over Hensting Valley and the South Downs National Park, and stunning sunsets are also common. There’s also a real emphasis on preserving natural habitats here – the grounds are made up of an open field next to wildflower meadows and ancient woodlands, and nearly a kilometre of native hedgerows have been planted to create new wildlife habitats. All of this provides an ever-changing backdrop of colour throughout the season, but one constant is the lack of light pollution that allows for some stunning stargazing on clear nights. The site is off-grid and low-impact, but it does have some simple facilities, including portable toilets and a (rather fun) Wrigley tin shower with a bucket on a pulley for that real wild camping vibe. A number of activities are available, including arts and crafts using the supplies and materials provided in the crafts den, but it's worth noting that only well-behaved children aged seven and over are allowed on site. There’s also an honesty shop for gas and a few other bits and bobs – other supplies can be picked up in either Eastleigh or Winchester (around 15 minutes’ drive away). Alternatively, walk to one of the local pubs (there are two within 20 minutes' stroll) for a meal and a couple of drinks. The closest bus stop is only 15 minutes' walk away too.

  • Facilities/activities including Bushcraft are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.
  • Guests under the age of 7 are not allowed on site.
  • If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Liked Super friendly! Well looked after area all ran by volunteers with money going towards charity. Pub 10 min walk away is great and two big fluffy dogs on the campsite.

Liked The most beautiful stay. Really felt like a hidden gem. We arrived slightly earlier than the 12pm-8pm set up time, however Kerie told us to open and shut the black gate and make our way to the right to get to the campsite. Only around six other cars set up that day so it was quiet and peaceful. There is a small honesty shop where you pay cash only from which you can purchase dog food, crisps, baked beans etc. The campsite bookings fund a charity close to Kerri’s heart which helps children and adults alike with a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. The camp is run solely by volunteers so it’s very much a keep it how you’d like to find it situation which is wonderful. There is an arts and crafts section in the wooden kitchen which features a portable gas burner and kettles. Thank you so much Kerie — from Rocky, Mike, and Lily 💕

Liked Super friendly and quiet campsite! Lovely views as well. Toilet was one of the cleanest we’ve seen. The lit up woodland walk was a highlight of ours. Would definitely come back!

Liked Loved the place, so spacious and well thought out, the communal kitchen and campfire areas are so cool! We are looking to come back and stay in the shepards hut next time as it looks real cosy
In there. Love how you can camp on fields or even in the woods! Overall great
Experience.

Disliked Not so much a dislike however so disappointing it’s a campsite for over 7 year olds, we would have really loved to bring our children.

Liked friendly staff offered us a choice of good pitches, nice for tents with some even ground.
quite peaceful environment with some beautiful woodlands and wildlife.

Disliked track entering onto the field was a little deep, fine for the normal car but maybe think twice on taking a low suspension sports car, also sat nav turned us of early, maybe better signs onto site.

Local attractions

There’s a lot of fun to be had simply knocking about on site – the site is fenced so dogs can sniff about safely. That said, this is also a great area for outings. For a spa day, head to the hotel in Marwell, five minutes' walk away. The excellent Marwell Zoo, accessible with a 15-minute walk or five-minute drive, is near for a day among the giraffes, tigers and hippos, too. This location on the edge of the South Downs National Park also clearly lends itself to walks, bike rides and other outdoor activities – and there’s more of all that in the nearby New Forest National Park (20 minutes’ drive) too. For a complete change of scenery, you might instead fancy city strolls in either historic Winchester (15 minutes) or down in Southampton (25 minutes), where both Solent Sky and SeaCity Museum are handy rainy-day options.
