Campers having stunning views of the howgill fells

  • Wild-style pop-up rural Cumbria site in the Upper Lune Valley
  • Cautley Spout and Sedbergh within a 25-minute drive
  • In the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 10 minutes' drive from the M6
Netherings Campsite is a wild-style pop-up site in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, in a particularly fine spot for those guests aiming to spend lots of time exploring the area on foot. This peaceful Cumbria location is in the Upper Lune Valley 10 minutes’ drive from Kirkby Stephen, with gorgeous views out over the Howgill Fells. They’ll give you just a taste of what you might see while out rambling in the surrounding landscape – there are plenty of walking trails to wander along locally, or you can fill your days with other outdoor pursuits including fishing, horse riding and golf. Getting out on foot may take you off to some of the Dales’ top spots – from here it’s easy to get out to places like Cautley Spout, Radical Steps or the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail. And if having the whole of one national park to choose from isn’t enough, there’s much more to explore in the nearby Lake District National Park too – it’s just the other side of the M6 (which itself is about 10 minutes’ drive away). Back on site after your efforts, there’s plenty of space to relax in, and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue for alfresco cooking if you wish (although there are also a couple of pubs within a few minutes’ drive too if you’d rather someone else did the honours). Facilities are pretty simple, with just portable toilets and taps for drinking water in the camping field. Eggs and logs are both available to buy from the site team.

Liked: Amiable welcome by the owner, Paula. We got a bit lost, and she was happy to assist.

The site is basic, but the views are stunning.

Use the grid-ref, and that will land you right at the gate.

Disliked: With such a basic site, the toilet was somewhat lacking. I would suggest a portaloo as the pop-up tent and chemical bucket aren't the best.
