What customers say

A lovely, tranquil spot by the river with sound staff. Great for exploring the Western Lakes, with a decent pub nearby. Some found Wi-Fi a bit iffy and facilities dated, but most loved it and would come back.

Disliked Jobs worth created by Pitchup, beautiful pitches by river, not allowed to park in them because Pitchup allocates the pitch, ours right in front of the toilets. You guessed it, no other visitors during our stay, so could have parked anywhere.
If you have a a European motor home, your grey waste won't work unless it's at least 10m long, to make this work I had to park reversed in, if you park nose in you can't use your waste and you sit looking at the toilets.this I refused to do, and caused somewhat of a disagreement.

From the manager: Thank you for your 8 star review, it is much appreciated,

However we would like to point out the following.

You had booked a super pitch for your stay and there were 5 other customers on super pitches during your stay, unfortunately there are only 3 super pitches that back onto the river two of which were utilised, all other pitches that were available at the time of your booking were not super pitches, therefore not having direct hookup to water waste or electric. The site is a small site and the pitch you were on is only 25 meters from the river.

We have had many European/non European motorhomes on site and none of them have struggled to hook up to the water waste until now, the staff member that was onsite at the time tried to give you some advice on how to park your vehicle so that your 2 and half meter hose would fit, there was no disagreement on our part, only advice.

I hope this didn't affect your stay too much, and we hope to see you again in the future.

Kindest regards
The Old Post Office Team

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Good site, easy to find. We were a late arrival however all the information had been left out for us, with contact numbers available if there was any issues. Facilities were good and kept clean. Nice pub just across the bridge which was very convenient. Pitch itself was made up of bark with grass touring pitch. Handy outdoor tap to the side of the toilet block to clean dogs paws. WiFi worked at pitch and had no issues with it

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch (super)

Liked We had an absolutely fantastic 2 night stay at The Old Post Office campsite! The shower blocks were spotless and modern, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. It was so peaceful at night. Strong WiFi. We'd give it six stars if we could! Highly recommend. Pub is a small walk around the corner. We came back for another night because we had to cut out journey short and the guys helped us out with a pitch.

Disliked NOTHING!! 😁

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Really enjoyed staying on this campsite. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Toilet block was clean showers were hot, your not packed in like sardines. Nice little pub nearby that we took refuge in when the rains came in. Some campers took a dip in the river.
Other reviews are correct about 50p for a shower, but if you don’t have a 50p coin go speak to the staff they will sort you out.
There was a bit of noise from the road behind but most people were up and about early making the most of there days in the lakes anyway.
10mins drive from Wasdale head and load of great walks. I will definitely be back.

Disliked Nout.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch (super)

Liked The pitch was very private with a hedge, and it had a nice wooden picnic table. There's a lovely bit of side grass for your use. The toilets and showers were clean. Hook up to electrics and waste next to pitch. Lovely surroundings by the banks of a river, and a couple of walks for your dogs and a pub next door.

Disliked Difficult to leave the entrance in the vehicle due to blind spot...perhaps an additional mirror to show blind spot?

Local attractions

Pull on your comfiest boots and walk yourself to merriment around these Cumbrian parts: just over five miles away in Wasdale is one of Britain’s tiniest churches, St Olafs, with its timber beams thought to have been made from Viking ships. Hikers, hotstep to the mighty heights of Scafell Pike and Great Gable (both about seven miles away) and Red Pike (approximately 20 miles north of the site). At the Wasdale Valley, as well as nurturing peaks aplenty, canoeists, kayakers and windsurfers alike will rapidly make their way to Wast Water, just five minutes from the site, the deepest lake in the UK. Cycling and walking routes around the lakes and mountains are plentiful, as are the chances for boating and fishing, but if you really want to go off-piste, you could try abseiling, climbing, a high ropes course, or even flying: hot air balloon and paragliding experiences are available for those who want to soar even higher than Scafell.
