  • Motorhome pitches on a small Cumbria site five minutes from the M6
  • Hadrian's Wall and Lake District within half an hour's drive
  • Part of a riverside estate with day tickets for salmon/trout fishing
You’ll only need to drive for about five minutes to reach Warwick Hall once you’ve left the M6 – but you’ll feel a world away from all that traffic when you’re settled into this small Cumbria site. The hardstanding motorhome pitches here are within the grounds of Warwick Hall’s estate on the banks of the River Eden – and there’s just a few of them, so it’s all nicely peaceful and spacious. Being right by the river has some great advantages, of course – including the ability to head out for waterside walks (one of which leads to the village pub, handily enough…) There’s access to the river for fishing, too, with daily tickets available to buy on site for salmon or trout fishing in the estate’s well-respected waters. If that’s not your thing, you’re welcome to have a game of tennis on the estate’s court instead or take your dog for a walk (as long as they’re kept on a lead to avoid problems with grazing sheep). Of course, you’re likely to want to be getting out and about while you’re staying here – especially with things like Hadrian’s Wall, the North Pennines National Landscape and the northern stretch of the Lake District within easy striking distance. Carlisle is about 10 minutes’ drive away for various entertainments and amenities like supermarkets. Pitches here are simple in style, with no electric connections or other services provided. There’s access to a toilet block and washing-up area though, along with a communal firepit area with log seating.

What customers say

A quiet, well-kept site on a manor estate. Praised for big pitches, nice scenery, and handy M6 access. Some find it pricey for basic loos and no showers, and one said the toilets need a spruce-up.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Ideal overnight for us rather than staying in Carlisle city centre car park. We pre booked a taxi to the city for £15 shared between 4 of us. Peaceful location. Pretty riverside walk. Quiet when we arrived on Friday evening. Brought some delish honey from the big house. Morning bird song incredible!

Disliked The shower is an unusual set up in the same room as the dishwashing area. Guess you can get two jobs done at the same time maybe! Not a dislike but think there might be some confusion about available number of pitches. A van arrived on Saturday before we had departed and they thought each hard standing was for 2 vans making a total of 10 pitches. All of us there already had assumed 1 van per hard standing and parked accordingly. 2 per pitch would be a real squeeze and with some motorhome sizes it would be impossible.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Convenient off motorway. Quiet, picturesque, safe. Rural and Great riverside walks. Pub 15 min walk away. Pitches level and gravelled. Communal Firepit a nice touch.

Disliked We know Limited facilities which are in progress to be improved. We are self sufficient so thats not a big problem short term. No electric which we are fine with but given all of this at £30 a night it's top end pricing. So id say £20 pn is more reflective of what's on offer at this stage.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked So quiet and peaceful, only a small number of pitches but that's ideal if you're looking for something more tranquil. Old stables behind the pitches houses the wash up station, which had lovely warm water and a rinser (love!). Also the toilet was lovely and clean and warm.
Wildlife spotting here was excellent and there's so many beautiful walks to check out.

Best thing was that we could get breakfast from the hotel right next to the campsite for a very reasonable price!

Also it's 5 mins off the motorway which was ideal for continuing on our roadtrip.

Disliked Only thing I'd want is to have a shower.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Spacious site, set in a manor estate. If there was showers we would be happy to stay for several days. Reviews stating expensive for what you get are overlooking the fact its not set on a pop up farm or swarming with people. Great site we will return one day. Bonus there is only five places, and self check in no need to stop and speak to anyone. Perfect for us.

Disliked Nothing, met our expectations.

Local attractions

If you’re interested in exploring some of the area’s history, Hadrian’s Wall is an obvious place to start, with several parts easily accessed from Warwick Hall. Hare Hill and Banks East Turret (20 minutes’ drive) are the closest sections, and you can learn more by continuing on to the Roman Army Museum (20 minutes) and the museum at Vindolanda (half an hour). Something a bit more recent? There’s a great collection of heritage planes at Solway Aviation Museum (10 minutes) and more shiny vehicles at the Vintage Motorbike Museum in Scaleby (15 minutes). Meanwhile, a steam-powered ride on the South Tynedale Railway (40 minutes) is a lovely way to see some of the scenery of the North Pennines National Landscape. Heading down into the Lake District National Park, you’ll be able to catch some of the top attractions in the northern part of the park easily enough – perhaps hiring a boat or watersports kit from Pooley Bridge (half an hour), visiting Aira Force Waterfall (40 minutes) or clambering up Skiddaw (50 minutes).
