Beverley Racecourse is 2 miles from Butt Farm, ideal for a family day out during the summer

General

  • Friendly and relaxed farm site two miles from Beverley town centre
  • On a footpath and cycle network
  • Well-maintained amenities, bike storage and barbecue/firepit hire

No ifs and no butts, this is a smashing little site.

Butt Farm is a small farm a couple of miles from the old town of Beverley, in a brill setting to use as a base for days out around East Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Wolds, the Yorkshire coast, York and Hull, and set on a footpath and cycle network so you can get straight out into the surrounding countryside. And you'll probably approve of the spankingly clean amenities too...

This is a working family-run farm, with wide open views of the East Yorkshire countryside. It's a newish site but owners Jen and Oly have already set it up to include several little extra touches, like barbecue and firepit hire, secure bike storage, recycling facilities and an undercover utility room with sinks and free hot water for washing up.

And then – the amenities. Butt Farm has new – and heated – ladies' and gents' washrooms and showers, in a modern facilities and amenities block converted from old farm buildings and fuelled by a renewable biomass boiler. Electric shaver points are available.

For supplies, Beverley is less than 10 minutes away by car, or you could take a bus from the stop a short stroll from the site (or cycle: one of the surrounding paths leads straight into town). A supermarket with petrol station is less than a mile away, and takeaways, pubs and restaurants are all within two miles.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Excellent site and good facilities without gimmicks.11/17/2019

  • Liked:

Good facilities with level pitches and friendly owner. Nice open space, though at time of our visit there was flooding in South Yorks so weather was not good to appreciate fully.

    Disliked:

Heavy rain left grassed areas wet and spongy making it impossible to access water and electric without sinking into mud. This also made it difficult to manoeuvre into the rather small hard standing without catching the grass with consequent damage to it.

From the manager...

Thanks so much for your kind review ....unfortunately we have had the wettest October / November on record which does lead to saturated grass....let’s hope it starts to dry up soon...look forward to seeing you again soon 😄

Good hardstanding, excellent showers, clean toilets, good recycling options. The site is peaceful and pleasantly rural but only a few minutes from a supermarket and a short, level and mostly off road cycle ride into Beverley.

    Minor road noise.

Great working farm but no fun in the rain11/04/2019

  • Liked:

Nice sized gravel pitches with grass awning area in a working farm with lots of animals. Nice authentic features such as a silo for recycling bins, and bin storage, peaceful and quiet. Two playful goats on site to watch. Safe area for children to play. Owner was very pleasant and helpful and on hand if anything was needed. Lots of useful info available in the toilets and washing area.

    Disliked:

The great British weather spoilt it somewhat for us as there was too much rain for the ground to take and we were surrounded by deep water. The facilities were ok but showering left the small dressing area soaking wet as the curtain didn’t stop the water. Only 2 showers and 2 toilets for the whole site. Wasn’t a massive issue for us as there were only a small amount of people on site but in the summer if it was full to capacity I can imagine it would be pretty hectic. I can imagine this to be a beautiful place in the summer time with a firepit going in the evening.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your kind review. As you know our showers are in our old cowshed so are unable to be any bigger - we always ensure these are kept very clean and warm. As long as the showers are pointing the right way they will not flood the bathrooms.......

The campsite is generally very well drained however this October has been the wettest on record and unfortunately this does lead to saturated ground......

    Disliked:

Only 2 toilets and 2 showers for ladies.Would be a problem if site full.Showers very small would have like a small seat to sit on after showering.
Main issue was rain rain rain not the owners fault but drainage on site was bad.Would help if more hard standing to enable awning to be on gravel or tarmac

Local attractions

Get hither to the Yorkshire coast, the Yorkshire countryside, the Yorkshire Wolds, cities like York and Lincoln, or to venture further afield via the P&O ferry port at Hull 10 miles away.

But to Beverley first... it's a bit of a beaut, with cobbled streets and a magnif minster, piles of old buildings, markets and music fests, and the chance to see geegees at Beverley Racecourse. Market days are on Wednesdays and Saturdays: if you're off to buy some bits, have a tipple afterwards in one of Beverley's 40 or so pubs. (One, the Sun Inn, dates back to the 16th century... just so you know...)

You can also get to Hull city centre within eight miles, Humber Bridge in nine, Driffield in 15 and the seaside town of Bridlington in 25. A bit further away but within a decent distance for day trips are York (30 miles), Lincoln (50 miles) and Leeds, 60 miles from Butt Farm.
