Grassy pitches

  • Dog-friendly site 10 minutes’ walk from riverside Upton upon Severn
  • Malvern Hills five minutes’ drive, and Tewkesbury 15 minutes
  • Fishing on site; restaurants and marina nearby in Upton
Black-and-white houses, a stunning riverside, a packed schedule of festivals and pubs to please fond-of-food punters: that’s a snapshot of Upton upon Severn, a waterside town 10 minutes’ walk away from The Old Allotments in Worcestershire. The USPs for this low-key site are just as pleasing: dog-friendly pitches, a location on the banks of the Severn and facilities that include toilets and showers, an Elsan point and a washing-up sink. With such a handy location so close to the town, riverside walks or cruising down the river on a hire boat could soon be on the horizon – Upton upon Severn has a busy marina with a bar, restaurant and boat hire. There are supermarkets five minutes’ walk from the site as well as pubs, eateries and takeaways a little further away. Regular events take place at the Three Counties Showground (10 minutes’ drive), and The Old Allotments is also a handy base for exploring the natural beauty of Malvern Hills National Landscape.

What customers say

A grand, well-kept spot with plenty of room on the pitches. Toilets and showers are spotless, and it's a doddle to get to the town's shops and pubs. A chill vibe and secure entry are a big plus, though you might hear a bit of road noise now and again. Basic but decent facilities for the price.

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked pitch relatively level , toilet and shower clean

Disliked felt run down , not enough facilities , and the pitch we had was opposite a carpark used by properties located on the waterside , not a very relaxing experience

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Great little site , the owner is always available , if you need him and it’s clean , quiet and relaxed . We asked to move pitches on the 2nd day , it was no trouble. Upton is small but lovely to walk round with plenty of pubs to choose from, had lovely lunch at The Anchor . Will be back!

Disliked Road noise( if you’re daft even to pitch by the fence)

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Closeness to the village of Upton. Friendly people staying there. Like the individual / loo cubicles. Wasn’t sure how to empty my grey waste as always been able to drive over a drain. This drain was located in a walled area

Disliked Found owner a bit brisk in approach over the phone. Also photos very misleading as it looks like the pitch has access to see the water - but there no view of water at all. Be honest and show what pitch is really like. Facilities a little tired but clean

Local attractions

Fancy a trip out? Before you set off, check in with the tourist office in Upton upon Severn, as the town has regular summer music festivals and events. You may also like to hire a barge to float down the River Severn, or bone up on local history at the town’s Tudor House Museum or Pepperpot Heritage Centre. As well as a number of half-timbered traditional pubs, Tewkesbury (15 minutes’ drive) is known for its splendid abbey with ornate stained-glass windows and tombs from the War of the Roses. There’s a medieval library in the Norman/Gothic cathedral at Worcester (half an hour), along with fine china exhibits at the Museum of Royal Worcester and local history displays in the City Art Gallery and Museum. Of course, the edge of the Malvern Hills National Landscape is only five minutes’ drive away for alfresco adventures on foot or by bike. You can scramble up to the Iron Age’s British Camp Hill Fort (15 minutes) for staggering views over Herefordshire and Worcestershire, or cycle the signposted network of bike trails across the region.
