Newlands Meadow: A quiet, private space to sit and birdwatch or sip a drink or two

General

  • Small family-run shepherd’s hut in the shadow of the Malvern Hills
  • A 10-minute drive from Great Malvern and 15 from Worcester
  • Self-contained shepherd's hut with a kitchenette and own bathroom

For swanky stays in stunning scenery, bed down under the big open skies of Worcestershire at Newlands Meadow, where a single shepherd’s hut looks out across to the Malvern Hills.

The cosy unit contains all the comforts of home, including underfloor heating, double glazing, bed linen provided, mains water and mains electricity, plus a private hot shower and chemical loo (which guests will be asked to empty). A small kitchenette is here for cooking and a village pub – with food and an open fire – is a five-minute walk out of the gate and down the lane. For a nifty snack when you arrive (or while you're out and about) there's a little stash of cookies and breakfast bars provided.

Forgot wine and beer? The park has spares just in case (simply bring a little cash to put in the honesty box). There’s also a radio, a Bluetooth speaker, games and paints in the hut to keep you entertained.

If it’s warm out, pad across the rug-topped wooden floors to spend some time out on the outdoor seating next to the firepit and gas barbecue. Bring wellies if there’s rain about – the ground can get a little muddy. You might hear the hum of traffic in the distance when outside, but it’s not apparent in the hut.

Need to stock up? Great Malvern (10 minutes’ drive) is the spot for shopping and also has a cinema, theatre and swimming pool. Bikes are for hire locally if you’d like to pedal power your way along a signed cycle route in the hills.

I found the balance perfect in every way. The site is located by a main road we didn't experience any disruption from traffic noise even though we had windows open. The shower room was really clean and well laid out as is the rest of the hut. A lot of thought as obviously gone into making your stay as perfect as possible. The outside space is amazing including the secret seat. There is a lot of small touches that leave you wanting for nothing. Thank you for making our easter break such an enjoyable experience.

We liked everything about the Shepards hut, it was warm and cosy and had everything you could possibly think of. The underfloor heating kept us lovely and warm and the honesty box is a great idea. The private outside garden area was great and we enjoyed the chimney at night and the secret seating area was great for a bit of protection from the wind. The option to design your own peace pebble is a really lovely idea and lovely to see other peoples pebbles they have made. We would definatly stay again and would recommend it to family and friends. 😊

It was one of the most relaxing stays ive experienced. The facilities and decor made for such a comfortable and cozy stay, a real home from home, it was everything you needed and more in a small space, was tricky to leave!

We are looking forward to being able to stay again

Perhaps a more effecient means of bathroom facilities would be preferencial

From the manager...

i thank you both for such a great review. Im sorry you had an issue with the bathroom i am assuming you are referring to the chimical loo. I do mention & show a photo of this kind of loo so that guests are not surprised! Normally there would be a Composte loo Outside in the cold so this is a Thumbs up .(Thats Glamping!)

Sites closeness to Malvern Hills etc and coziness of hut esp underfloor hearing.

    Disliked:

Nearness of main road and noise of traffic, I was deterred from spending more time outside the hut due to this. Additional charges for wifi and the signal was poor.

From the manager...

Dear Mr Crawford. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. I do mention in the booking particulars the busy road & that the hut is well insulated & double glazed. As you noticed it does not effect one,s sleep. Regarding the wifi i am providing accommodation Not a weekend of tech & info. Such a shame as people are unaware the Wifi is nothing to do with me if they reduce the score rate because of this it effects my business & bookings which is not a fair example of the real view & experiance the hut offers in so many other ways. The Hut is within a campsite & there is Club Wifi But most other guests use roaming Wifi with No problem.

This was a fabulous find on the internet. We particularly wanted a hut with ensuite facilities and a private garden. And this was it!! There is a hut next door, however still being completed when we were there, so didn't bother us. Lorna Loone is a very cosy and homely Shepherds hut and Jan has thought of absolutely everything. It has been made with a lot of love and attention to detail. It was our first experience in a Shepherds hut and certainly an enjoyable one. The garden is ideal for a bbq and outdoor dining and also very peaceful. It rained on our second night, which was disappointing as it was still very, very warm and too hot to sit inside. A cosy corner shelter would be a great addition, so you can still sit and read a book and enjoy the garden and a glass of wine. The chiminea was also fabulous on our first night.
The location is superb with a pub down the road (few minutes walk) and Retail Park just 4 minutes away if that by car. Upton-upon-Severn is must visit with riverside bars and restaurants and nice little town. We also enjoyed visiting Worcester.
Also loved painting a pebble. Nice touch!!
Absolutely loved this little break and will definitely return.

Stunning!!! The cabin was beautifully decorated and very well kittted out. Lots of personal touches to discover and a private garden area. Perfectly located for discovering the area. And lovely helpful host.

    Disliked:

The bed …was too soft and undulating. Maybe a wooden boards instead of the wire underneath would be an easy solution.

From the manager...

so sorry Teresa that you were unfortable, we cater for most so have installed a memory foam mattress with a mattress topper on top of springs . I can do no more regards jan

My wife and I recently stayed in the Shepherds Hut and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The facilities were excellent and it had all of the comforts you would expect, plus more. The Shepherds Hut was located towards the corner of the field and offered relaxation and privacy. It had its own little garden of Eden, with fire-pit, small BBQ and table and chairs to sit out of an evening. It has lovely views across farmland to the rear, and the Malvern Hills to the front.
The site itself was very clean and tidy, obviously well looked after. There is a lovely pub a few hundred yards down the road which do great meals and beers, so not far to stagger back after a couple. It is only 5 min drive into Malvern, or around 10 mins into Worcester, both places certainly worth visiting.

    Disliked:

The only negative was the busy road nearby. Did`nt negatively affect our stay, however some people may not like it. Road traffic noise was virtually non existent in the evening/night time.

This site’s a stellar spot for a weekender if you’re off to an event at the Three Counties Showground (10 minutes' drive). Nothing on there when you’re visiting? Use Newlands Meadow as a base for exploring the surrounding scenery, especially the pretty paths in the Malvern Hills (15 minutes).

If you'd rather be by water there's fly fishing five miles away, with tuition and kit hire available if you're only just getting started. Alternatively, investigate the sights by the river in Worcester (15 minutes) – this West Midlands city has a medieval cathedral with royal tombs, cloisters and a crypt, as well as an intriguing selection of 17th-century displays in the Tudor House Museum.

More history is to be had at Eastnor Castle (20 minutes) and in the medieval streets and abbey of Tewkesbury (25 minutes). And if you’re after more of a modern day out? Cheltenham Racecourse (35 minutes) is a top choice for getting your glad rags on and watching the horses.
