General

  • Luxury glamping site on seven acres of private land and vineyard
  • Half a mile's stroll from Uppingham; 10 mins' drive to Rutland Water
  • Individually designed and fully equipped canopy tents; firepit outside

If you’re surmising that stays at Vineyard and Canvas revolve around settling into a swish tent overlooking fields full of grapes, well, you’d be absolutely right.

This luxurious glampsite, opened in 2019 and covering seven acres of private land, is set on the hills of high Rutland and has fab views. Each canopy bell tent sits in its own private space of 24 square metres, with hidden picnic areas and secluded hideaways all around.

Each accommodation is individually designed and comes with contemporary furnishings, a handmade kingsize oak bed, kitchen equipment and safety items including smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Step outside and you’ll spot a firepit, verandah, tables, chairs and a parasol too.

Travelling light? The site team can sort bedding and towels for glamping guests or you're welcome to bring all your own kit along (including a tent if you desire something a little more low-key).

And for off-base eats and explores? The historic town of Uppingham (half a mile away) has a food shop and takeaways, along with art shops, fashion boutiques, bistros and a Friday market. Wine bars, pubs and award-winning restaurants are within easy driving distance around Rutland.

Dogs are very welcome at the park but must be kept on a lead at all times due to the numerous rabbits and other wild animals on the grounds. The park asks that you please respect the land and its occupants.

great stay, was completely isolated apart from hearing a few cars and lorrys on the nearby road which honestly wasnt a problem as you basically ignore them after 5 mins, you hear a lot of wildlife out there, fox, monkjack, big birds in the morning as near the rutland water bird sancuary. young kid loved it as plenty of room to run around in and explore the site, stream there, older kid had to go to work late but came back, the owner allowed this and gave us the code so we could let him in later , facilities were clean and plent of sanitizers around to use, could of had a shower but didnt realise so no towells with us! all in all great place and if you want a proper camping trip, this was definatly a good place to come with the kids

    Disliked:

Lovely site. Plenty of room for the children to run around and really well maintained. Hosts were friendly and very attentive, even when the local water supply was cut. They had the best toilet and shower facilities we've seen and all spotless. Hand sani was in all the right places and everything was really secure with combi padlocked gate. Well situated for exploring Rutland. We would definitely go back!

A warm welcome from the campsite owner and his wife. The toilet and showers were smart and kept immaculately clean the entire stay. Great security onsite. Quiet surroundings, really close to nearby pubs and Rutland water for walks. And although you can’t drive your car to your tent pitch, there are wagons to support with your things.

    Disliked:

Not being able to unpack car next to tent pitch.

A well thought out and secure site. Our hosts were extremely helpful and hands on. The tent was spacious and in its own little area which allowed us to relax around a campfire without disturbing others. The kitchen equipment looked new and there was a good selection, including a one ring stove and we were provided with plenty of gas. We were also supplied with wood for the wood burner. The hire also included a table and chairs and some loungers. The bathrooms, which included a toilet and shower were brand new and spotless and were stocked with the necessary hand and disinfect sprays.

Local attractions

Travelling on public transport? Great news: Oakham (10 minutes’ drive) has trains to and from London, Cambridge and Birmingham.

If you’re exploring by car, head over to Rockingham Castle (10 minutes), for a tour of the Norman building and a treat in the tearoom, or creep along to Bugtopia The Zoo (15 minutes) with the kids to interact with 75 different types of reptiles and invertebrates.

Try to spot a few creatures out in the wild as well with a bit of birdwatching at Rutland Water (20 minutes); this lake is also a go-to for fishing, watersports and pleasure cruises. It has a 25-mile walking and cycling track around the perimeter too if you’re up for a wander.

Already explored all of Uppingham but still fancy town times? Mosey over to Market Harborough (30 minutes) and idle in the independent shops or look to Leicester (40 minutes) for strolls around a 900-year-old cathedral. The nearby King Richard III Visitor Centre gives guests the lowdown on the royal’s life and you can head to Leicester Castle as well to see the place where he lived out his final days.
