Firepits available for hire

  • Cosy family-run and dog-friendly site in the Cotswolds
  • A 15-minute drive from Blenheim Palace; 25 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold
  • Barbecues and firepits allowed; access to footpaths and bridleways
After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked I liked absolutely everything about this camp . The advert does not do justice to reality. On arrival we were wellcome by the owner / manager . He was so relaxed, funny and started sentence by ‘ welcome home ‘ and it’s truly felt that way . Surroundings excellent , between trees, plenty of toilets , shower , water points. There are freezers and fridges , there were plenty of place even in such heat.
Toilets and showers are clean, no waits etc . Mini shop, bar ( with live music on Saturday ) , gallery .
Definitely coming back ( but would stay longer this time )

Disliked If you want to buy alcohol or other drinks to take to your tent , I would advise to go to the village ( 4min drive ) 😉. Pricey but I understand if you want something convenient.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked Everything just as stated so knew exactly what to expect. Daniel the warden deserves a medal, he looks after everything from checking in, to running the shop and making sure all the facilities are top notch. The little cafe/restaurant are run by a lovely couple who alo offer onsite treatments. I wish I had known this before I booked as I would have used her services but we ran out of time. The Romany caravans are a fabulous touch and although we didn't need the children's playground, it is based in woodland and my grandchildren would have loved it if they had been with us.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Beautiful location! Each pitch is numbered and you are given your pitch number on arrival, which was very convenient as it saved having to look for somewhere to pitch up.
Toilets & showers were kept clean and although there wasn’t an awful lot of showers & toilets we didn’t once have to queue to use them.
There was a very handy shop on site for your essentials, and a cute little cafe.

Disliked Some parties didn’t follow the curfew and where very loud late into the night/morning which was a shame.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Came away for two nights with my fiancée over the weekend.

Pitch was great for us, situated away from the busier parts and nestled in a corner, our neighbours were a large family who were no trouble at all and respected the site rules.

For the price of the stay, the facilities were really good, the site was well maintained and tidy compared to a lot of sites we have been to.
The bar/cafe was lovely and had a great atmosphere with the live artist and to add to that, everything was decently priced, the staff were friendly and very welcoming.

We would gladly return in the future.

Disliked A couple of downsides I would like to mention (which is not a reflection on the site nor their team) was the campers based in the Private Field, which was set right in the centre of the site, which appeared to be a group booking by what can only be described as a Sunday league football crowd - Which lasted beyond the noise curfew on the Friday and started immediately with the sun on Saturday morning. Not to mention the reckless Bike riding by this group which seemed to stick to the main route in and out of the site, constantly.

We generally camp with our large family which does include young children but always ensure we stick to camp rules regarding noise and disturbances.

We did speak with other campers who highlighted this problem also so we were not the only ones affected by this.

I do respect and appreciate the hard work of the staff who I witnessed handling a complaint from a camper regarding the aforementioned group and also speaking to the offenders regarding this.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Excellent site. Very clean and tidy, staff were brilliant and helpful. It helped that dogs were allowed

From the manager: Thanks so much for your review Ian. It’s really appreciated when we get positive feedback. We do strive to make this an amazing campsite and never rest on our laurels. Next year we’re hoping to add a woodland cinema and campsite ice cream van. Thanks again

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Great amenities.

Disliked We actually left after only 20 minutes of arrival.😔
The campsite was heaving! Everyone was crammed in.
The pitch was slanted and we were not accommodated when we asked to move, even though there were empty spaces.
It was very loud, children running everywhere, dogs barking and overall, just not for us.
Wouldn't recommend for anyone wanting a peaceful or relaxing experience but probably great for young families travelling with other friends who are happy with and wanting an extremely sociable break.

From the manager: This is upsetting to hear, we accommodate all types of bookings, people , pitches and more. We’ve added on our website in several places including on the booking application that you can request a specific pitch referring to our site map, you can also put in specific requests such as “flat pitch” or “quiet pitch”. We don’t hide the fact that we accept children, familes , groups and dogs. Apart from one day in our entire season every single booking has respected our noise curfew time of 10.30pm , again this is given to our customers before they book and after they book. We also mention that all of our pitches are pre allocated, so although when you arrived you may have seen empty pitches more suited to your requirements these would of been reserved for customers who have informed us of specific requirements. I think having all of this knowledge to hand whilst still booking and then leaving us a 1 star review is a little unfair, we’re working so hard in making this an amazing campsite but every customer is entitled to their opinion and we welcome all honest reviews as it gives us suggestions and ideas of excelling. Going off your review I think we will ask pitchup to add more information to their listing.

Local attractions

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
