If you’re keen to stay in the open air but don’t want to miss out on a nightly pint in a cosy local, Swan Lake Caravan Park might just be the place for you. The grass pitches at this adults-only site sit behind the White Swan pub, a traditional boozer in the Nottinghamshire village of Dunham on Trent. There are other advantages to staying here besides the proximity to the pub: the site is just off the A57 (and therefore easy to reach), plus there are bus stops nearby, and it will welcome your canine buddy. On top of that, it has its own fishing lake. Ready to explore the Nottinghamshire countryside? A 10-minute walk takes you to the Dunham Toll Bridge and the path that runs along the River Trent. Then you can walk (or cycle) south towards Fledborough Viaduct and on to Girton Lakes (a five-mile hike); or head north, towards Torksey Castle (about four miles). If you’re feeling adventurous, the Skellingthorpe Walk is a 10-mile path leading all the way into Lincoln (allow at least four hours on foot… or 20 minutes by car). The site has modern toilet and shower facilities, freshwater points and chemical waste disposal, plus an area where you can wash up after your barbecue.

A peaceful, adult-only site with great pitches and helpful staff. The pub's a hit, as is the fishing and river walks. Showers are fine for most. Excellent value, with many keen to revisit.

Liked The site is spot on, had a great time well maintained spotless and level. Staff couldn’t be any more friendly never stop looking after the grounds and nothing is any trouble. Such a welcoming place to stay.
The swan pub at the front of the site is very friendly with great food definitely worth a visit.
Lincoln is just 20 min drive away or a uber taxi if you fancy a great day out
Lovely little fishing lake on site great fun plenty of fish

Just a mention there’s no shops in the village but Retford is only 15 min away

Liked The lovely Ralph as well as his second in command ;-) great stay and already feel like one of the 'swan lake' family despite it only being our second visit. Despite it being packed this weekend it didn't feel it and was sooooo quiet

Liked Liked the privacy and space of the pitch, enjoyed the walks with the dog, showers were lovely, all clean and tidy. Very peaceful and clean site, we will be back. Pub on doorstep very nice xx

The attractions at Sundown Adventureland (five minutes’ drive) were built with younger visitors (under the age of 10) in mind – kids can ride a tractor or meet the characters from The Wizard of Oz on the Yellow Brick Road snaking through the forest. They'll also believe pigs can fly on the Giddy Piggies ride. Explore 3,000+ acres of parkland at National Trust - Clumber Park (25 minutes), a former ducal estate that now welcomes visitors – whether on foot or bike. Check out the Gothic chapel, pause for a picnic by the lake or in the Pleasure Grounds, or sniff out the Rose Garden, with its dozens of varieties. When in Nottinghamshire, of course you have to pay a visit to Sherwood Forest (half an hour), said to have been home to Robin Hood and his merry men. There are historical reenactments celebrating this folklore hero, or you can simply explore wooded trails, looking out for birds like woodpeckers and pipits.
