  • Quiet adults-only site with views over the Rhoscolyn straits
  • A 10-minute drive from Holyhead; 20 minutes from Traeth Llydan
  • Private harbour on the estuary for fishing and launching a canoe
Blue seas, peaceful canoeing and Isle of Anglesey coastal walks are just some of the treats in store on a getaway at Church Creek Campsite. On the south west side of the Isle of Anglesey, this quiet adults-only site is a great spot for non-motorised watersports and has splendid views over the Rhoscolyn straits, the big blue and Four Mile Bridge, making it a scenic base indeed… So, feel free to chill out as much as you like (over a barbecue, perhaps?). Thing is, you might not want to sit still too long, given that the site is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the estuary, where the Isle of Anglesey coastal path can be picked up (a splendid route which heads past coves, arches and sandy beaches). Even more conveniently, Church Creek Campsite has its own private harbour on the estuary where guests can whip out their fishing gear or launch a canoe, even at low tide. It’s part of a channel from an old mill, where the water doesn’t empty in the same way as the rest of the estuary. It’s deep enough to paddle your canoe to the sea and the fish like to feed there at low tide, making it a top spot for anglers when the rest of the estuary’s dry. Plane spotting might also feature on your itinerary here – half an hour’s walk will get you to RAF Valley, where various cool planes swoop in and out of the airport. However mucky you get on the local hikes and beaches (this includes the sandy Traeth Llydan, 20 minutes’ drive away, where canoe rental is available), the site has toilet and showers facilities for you to freshen up again.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Everything. I got stuck as we drove on, impossible to reach the camping area without a 4x4, place was completely empty and looks run down. Toilets are a disused caravan, no other facilities and no reception. Not a campsite in our opinion. We drove off and stopped in a lay by as it felt safer.

From the manager: Disliked everything? Wow sorry about that , again can't do much about the weather and there is another way onto the site iff you would of phoned me I would of been happy too help as you turned up when the reception was closed. Yes we have a reception it's a big unit that says reception on the side with my number on it and right next too it is a big green toilet block with 3 toilets , 2 urinals and 2 basins sorry you couldn't find it but it's definitely there! No facilities we have another block with a shower, toilet and basin and you couldn't find that either? Again could of phoned me iff you were having difficulty or was it the fact you turned up at night time when it was dark? I'm sad too hear you chose a lay-by as a safer option I hope you had a good night a

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The views from the campsite where beautiful, we loved the private little beach and exploring. The owner was great, so helpful and friendly (thank you again for the tent pegs!). We loved the quiet location. Sunset views where great with our bbq! Toilets where nice and clean.

Disliked: No dislikes but better signage to the site would have been helpful - I would recommend visitors to use the what three words app - this was the most accurate location on the map. Also a shower would have been great but I understand it is being fixed!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Countryside and area Quietness Privacy and only ones there

Disliked: Road to camp site - extremely muddy and unstable as were on motorbikes Entrance to field - thick mud and the owner had to lay gravel before we could enter Facilities were not good - female toilet with no lock on door and wall too thin between men's toilets. Facilities messy and no bins whatsoever. Extremely expensive for what you get

From the manager: Hi thanks for review unfortunately there's nothing much I can do about the weather and seeing as it had rained for days unfortunately the campsite was wet. Therefore we did our best too lay gravel too make sure the entrance was suitable for cars and campervans I never thought 3 bikers would even attempt too drive onto a campsite in such conditions and I would of kindly advised you too rebook, this could not be done as you didn't notify us that you were turning up on bikes so I couldn't accommodate you. I did my best for you I found 3 slabs for you too lean your kick stands on and even provided you with a barbecue! Which obviously didn't get left in the review just negativity! As for the toilet block it is a fitted out block made too regulations in a factory so I can't really comment on your issue with walls being too thin? As for bins we have signs in place asking people too take rubbish home with them as you would of known iff you had read the terms of the site. And there is a lock on the womens door sorry you didnt find it. Hope you enjoy your tour around Europe !

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Location - really rural but easy to find. Great scenery. Next to RAF valley but didn’t get too much noise from aircraft. Far away from light pollution so the stars are really spectacular on a clear night. Close to amazing local beaches at Trearddur Bay. Right on the Anglesey coastal path for easy walking adventures. Close enough to big shops in Holyhead to easily get supplies. The pitch areas are really well maintained and there was plenty of space to pitch on a level area, even with a choice of views.

Disliked: Facilities were definitely not what was expected or required. I chose this site over others because it’s listed as having actual toilets (ie not portaloos) and showers. Arrived to find that the (single) shower on site was broken. Went to look the following day and found that the shower is an unappealing ramshackle shed (locked at the time). Luckily the sun shone most of the trip so we were able to rinse in the sea instead, although this was not the preferred option! The single toilet is in an old static caravan which was filthy and, latterly, broken, whilst being full of waste. I could not bring myself to use the loo on site (I’ve been poorly from poor toilets before and never want a repeat situation!!), so resorted to limiting my water intake, peeing in the undergrowth and waiting for trips to the town or supermarket to go “properly”. Which made it an uncomfortable trip. There are no washing up facilities and no waste disposal (apparently because it’s an “eco site”- I’ve been to eco sites with AMAZING recycling facilities, even down to batteries, so I think in this case they just don’t want to pay for the waste disposal). The guys managing the site were friendly and the stay was inexpensive in the scheme of things, however, the facilities were really poor. As in, I have stayed at similarly priced sites with much better facilities. Would not recommend, on the basis of cleanliness, and facilities not as sold. However if you are happy to rough it and use the supermarket or public toilets, the location might make it worthwhile.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The views, peaceful area and close to RAF base and shops

Disliked: You definitely need to take your own toilet! There is one little shed with a toilet and shower in.. no sink area.. and if the toilet or shower is in use you cannot access either!? The facilities here were absolutely horrendous! We did not take our own toilet due to reading there is a toilet and shower on site.. you had no privacy when you could actually get into the toilet it is just a shed with a house door with kind of blurred out glass.. my partner had to stand in front of the door for no one to see in, the second day we were there, the toilet was locked.. so I had to wait until we went into the shops to use a toilet (this is the only toilet on site on a different field) I went later that night still locked.. I then went the following morning and they had PARKED THEIR CAR across the entrance road to the toilet so no one could get down purposely blocking the toilet area as this was also tied off with a rope the night before. So again me and my partner had to drive to Morrisons to use the toilet. We have had to store rubbish in our own car until we found public bins due to them saying it is an eco site.. but still they could provide bins! We heard several people complaining about the site and the lack of facilities for the price of £60 for 3 nights I thought it was disgusting and are much much better sites around the area as we found and have also stayed in much better areas and never had any problems like this! I definitely do not recommend taking children due to the toilet situation or take your own! This is such a shame as location is amazing, very very poor facilities and we will definitely not be staying again!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: In response to your reply to our review, you’ve got the wrong group, I was referring to the toilet in the caravan that was covered in flies and definitely not cleaned all weekend and we didn’t have a barbecue! Surely toilet roll is meant to be used? We had to get our own because it didn’t get replaced all weekend. We cleared away a discarded tent, which we found on the site and disposed of it for you. You’re welcome.

Disliked: You have no grounds to complain about us because we didn’t do anything wrong. I felt that my review was very positive and honest as I gave you suggestions for improvement which surely is what reviews are for, not so you can bite back and take offence.

Local attractions

The Isle of Anglesey has a fierce reputation for beaches, so kick off your beach-hopping itinerary with snorkelling, surfing and kayaking at Traeth Llydan (20 minutes’ drive). Then, move onto the little Porth Diana Beach (15 minutes) for more peaceful snorkels, and Traeth Trearddur (10 minutes) for activities like windsurfing or dinghy sailing. Holyhead (10 minutes) is a hub of activity. Set sail from the harbour, pay a visit to the maritime museum or pick up another section of the Isle of Anglesey coastal path. Perhaps you’d like to check out the historical landscapes around these parts too? Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes) is the most well-known of the local landmarks. Left mid-construction, the ruins are an excellent spot for hide and seek or picnics. There are standing stones along the coastal path too.
