A family-friendly site with grassy field pitches on a working farm, Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake is on the outskirts of the peaceful Dorset village of Langton Matravers, on the Isle of Purbeck. This is an excellent base to unwind or explore the Purbecks, whether it's walking, cycling, climbing, kayaking, coasteering or visiting tourist attractions. Pick any spot you like at this well-located site five minutes' drive from Swanage beach and 15 minutes from Studland beach. Walks through the fields to the South West Coast Path are directly accessible from the site; once there, you're on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and can get to spectacular walks and views of Dancing Ledge (check out the small sea pool) and the caves at Winspit Quarry. There's a bus stop and a range of footpaths just outside the site, so it's easy to explore the area on foot or by bus or car. Walk to Swanage or the historic village of Corfe Castle, or to the pub in Worth Matravers (40 minutes' walk) for a cider or two. The closest pub to the site is less than 500 metres away and has a cosy beer garden. This site's all about unwinding and soaking in the countryside views, so off-ground firepits and barbecues are welcome. There's a small shop and an on-site café serving local produce, including breakfast and lunch. In the evenings, they sometimes open up an offset smoker barbecue or pizza oven. Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake also has an attraction farm (an additional fee applies) with a large indoor soft play area, a playground and pedal go-karts. Other on-site amenities include toilets, token-operated showers and a washing-up point.

  • This is a quiet park: no music is allowed.

Great farm which the children loved (cost not included in campsite cost)

Disliked So much sheep poo! We know this is a farm but we have a one year old who is very much on the move and also loves to pick everything up. We were not expecting so much poo around the campsite which made it hard as she wanted to roam but couldn’t.

Campsite was on a steep slope but we did manage to find a flatish place to camp at the top of the hill.

Toilets seamed to get regularly blocked and often wouldn’t flush.

Only one drinking water tap at the bottom of the hill by the toilets which was tough as the flat spaces were mostly at the top of the hill.

Liked laid back and peaceful atmosphere, welcoming and helpful staff. Plenty of room on site to find a pitch for our group. Toilets and showers clean and the views are beautiful. Close to Swanage, walkable or 5mins in the car. Can have a fire/bbqs provided raised off the ground.

Liked Lovely views, excellent price (£10 a night for one person and 50p for 4 min shower). Not crowded.

Disliked Hand soap in loos could have been topped up more frequenly. Loos didn't flush that well, and a few more would help with this.

Liked Family friendly - Kids (3, 9, 11) said it was the beat campsite we’d been to. They made lots of friends to play with.
Onsite farm and cafe - Kids loved it, staff great! Everyone encouraged to get hands on with the animals.
Beautiful views.
Quiet (except for animals! 😆Be prepared for donkeys, cockerels, dogs, crows, turkey to be vocal at all hours.)

Disliked Toilets didn’t flush properly.
Not many food options for kids who don’t like cheese or ham.

Liked Great location, great cafe with range of locally made food, rustic feel to the site, close to animals making it a great experience, friendly staff, beautiful views, really good value for money. Beautiful pebble beach nearby with swim spot Dancing ledge. Lots of friendly lovely pubs nearby.

Disliked Only 2 showers so often had to wait. The showers regularly go too hot and then cool, token systems at the time I visitted kept breaking.

Liked Big open field, great location to walk to the coast.

Disliked Few toilets / showers for number of guests. Put a mop and bucket in them to help keep them clean. A polite note to remind others to keep 6 m away from others pitches, especially when lighting fires. A old freezer would be a great addition for ice blocks.

Liked Nice spacious pitches, plenty of space between tents. Nice view & lots of piggies to look at whilst camping. Nice cafe.

Disliked Toilets weren’t cleaned & totally blocked. Not resolved over the two days we were there. Only two individual showers for whole site, again not cleaned.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The showers and toilets are cleaned every morning at 6am and checked again during the day and this happens every day. In terms of the chickens they certainly should not be in the cafe.

With a long sandy beach and shallow waters, Swanage is a popular destination for a family day at the seaside. And when you’re all beached out, you can head to Prince Albert Gardens for views of the Victorian pier and Swanage Bay, or take a ride on the Swanage Railway's heritage trains all the way to Corfe Castle and beyond. Overlooked by the ruins of 11th-century Corfe Castle, Dorset Adventure Park (10 minutes’ drive) is the place to get wet (at the inflatable water park) and/or muddy (at the assault course with cargo nets, monkey bars and mud slides). If you’re into militaria, you'll likely appreciate the displays at The Tank Museum (25 minutes), which include armoured vehicles from both World Wars, plus other conflicts like the wars in the Gulf and Afghanistan.
