  • Holiday park a short stroll from the sandy surfing beach Croyde Bay
  • Surfboards and wetsuits for hire; surfing lessons available
  • Tropical indoor pool, indoor/outdoor play, beach café and kids' club
Sick of being rudely awakened by your alarm clock? Try a Ruda wakening instead: after a blissfully peaceful lie-in, take a gulp of fresh, clean air and stroll a few steps down to the golden sands and sparkling waves… Ruda Holiday Park sits right alongside the sweeping sandy surfing beach of Croyde Bay on Devon’s Gold Coast. Croyde is a popular destination for surfers, and it’d be rude not to have a go while you’re here. Guests can hire a variety of boards, wetsuits and other kit from Ruda Holiday Park’s dedicated surf shop, and instructors from the renowned Surf South West school are on hand if you want lessons. If the weather isn't playing nice, head for Ruda’s tropical indoor pool complex, where there are water rapids and underwater geysers, waterfalls, hydrojets and one humongous slide. This site is great for kids of all ages, with the children's club, adventure playground, indoor soft play area, tennis court and activities like 'tots and tunes' or character dining (this last one's during high season only). There's also a good choice of on-site food options, including a beach café and an ice-cream parlour, plus a sprightly schedule of evening entertainment, and comprehensive essential amenities.

What customers say

This campsite is just steps from the beach with amazing views and convenient access. Staff are generally friendly. Facilities, like washrooms, need updating and can be a bit grubby, but efforts are appreciated. Families love the pool and amenities. Some found it busy, pricey, and noisy at times.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite (no pets)

Liked Wonderful location for the beach and local walks. Facilities were clean and well maintained. One toilet and shower block was much newer and better than the older one.

Disliked Could have done with a mop in the showers to clean the floor after use.

Croyde Burrows powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The camping pitch and the proximity to the beach.

Disliked Kids roaming around knocking on van at 6am; showers were cold, and a bit too busy for our liking.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (no pets)

Liked the campsite is in a brilliant location, really close to the beach which made everything easy. The pitch was a nice size, clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There are also plenty of facilities on site, which made things really convenient, and the atmosphere was lovely — lots of friendly people around which added to the overall experience.

Disliked we rented surfboards as complete beginners, and this is where things felt quite unsafe. I was given an 8ft board despite being a smaller person, and the sea conditions were quite rough and choppy. When we came back early, we were told “it wasn’t the day for it” — which is exactly the kind of information that should have been shared before we went out, not after.

It was frustrating because it felt like the staff were aware the conditions weren’t suitable for beginners but still allowed us to go ahead anyway. As first-timers, we rely on that guidance for safety, and it left us feeling that the decision may have been more money-driven than safety-focused. A more independent surf shop would likely have been more honest and advised against going out in those conditions.

We also had a small issue in the evening where we were told we couldn’t buy bingo tickets quite firmly. because it was too late, but then just a few minutes later an announcement said tickets were still available. By that point we’d already been put off by being told no earlier, which was a bit frustrating.

Overall, a lovely, clean site in a great spot, but better communication and more responsibility around safety would really improve the experience.

Local attractions

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Devonshire coastline surrounding Ruda Holiday Park. Recommendations include a walk to the headland at Baggy Point where you’ll be rewarded with outstanding views; a saunter along spectacular Saunton Sands, and a delve into the dunes at Braunton Burrows. Croyde is a perfectly pretty village of thatched cottages, tearooms, pubs, restaurants, cafés and (but of course) surf shops. There are umpteen visitor attractions in the area, particularly for animal enthusiasts, who can come face to face with life-sized model dinosaurs and a host of their living, breathing descendants at Combe Martin Wildlife Park; practise their trout pouts on some fishy friends at Ilfracombe’s aquarium; or get hands on with the animals at the Big Sheep, the area’s most eccentric day out: sheep racing and stunt ducks, anyone…?
