  • Spacious pitches at a 260-acre Surrey estate near Cranleigh
  • A 15-minute drive to Winkworth Arboretum; 40 minutes to the coast
  • Fishing and social club on site; profits support local charity
A holiday for yourselves, and you get to do good for others at the same time? It’s a win-win situation when you stay at Springbok Campsite, part of a secluded estate on the border of Surrey and West Sussex. The estate is run as a charity that provides accommodation and support for former seafarers, and any profits made by the campsite will be fed back into providing services for the residents. Concerned you may have to sacrifice certain facilities in order to support this worthy cause? Not a bit of it – this is a lovely site that’s part of a 260-acre estate made up of farmland, forest and formal gardens. You’ll be able to take walks around at your leisure, perhaps stopping in at the pretty walled garden or picking up a day pass for some fishing on the one-acre lake. Dog-friendly pitches here are spacious and fuss-free, and have access to basic shower and toilet facilities, plus a camp kitchen/washing-up shack. Guests are also welcome to stop in for a drink at the on-site social club. Barbecue evenings at your pitch are permitted too, if you’d like – there are shops 10 minutes’ drive away in Cranleigh for all the bits you’ll need. (Please note that barbecues must be raised off the ground and disposed of responsibly once they have cooled down.) If a country walk and pub are musts on your rural break, you’ll be pleased to hear that both are on hand – in fact, you could combine both with a stroll to one of the hostelries within a 30/45-minute walk. For other outings nearby you’ll have a choice of heading north to the Surrey Hills, west to the South Downs National Park or south to the coast (about 40 minutes away).

What customers say

Guests love the chill vibe, roomy, tidy sites, and lovely gardens at this peaceful spot. The bar and welcoming locals are a hit. Facilities are mostly clean and fine, though some find them basic and in need of updates, noting inconsistent shower temps and occasional cold kitchen water. Great for walks. It's praised for peace and value, with many wanting to come back.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Great site, clean toilets and showers and heated in winter months, very peaceful and the residential home for the old seafarers that you can use drinks are very competitive in price, they will do a full English breakfast or a roast on Sunday but you must give 24 hours notice, breakfast lovely but roast over priced for what you get.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Nice size and level gravel pitches with EHU, nice walks , very helpful friendly staff, enjoyed clubhouse and warm welcome there. Lovely grounds. Easy check-in. Great communication. Loved that we could bring our dogs, Loved the site and will use again but definately not in high season which is just due to lack of toilets/showers if busy.

Disliked Same as other reviews lack of toilets if site busy, dated but were absolutely fine and plenty hot water. Due to this would use mainly out of season but will definately be returning again and again and though narrow entrances you just go slow - do not go down satchel lane like we did as dead end and nowhere to turn so had to reverse caravan onto main road, that was due to ignoring sites instructions and following our caravan Sat nav so our fault entirely.

From the manager: Dear Elizabeth

Thank you for leaving the 9/10 review and we greatly appreciate you taking the time to leave your comments. Glad to see that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you was given a warm welcome from the staff that you met.

The washrooms is something that we are looking to improve and an upgrade will be included in the near future, this will make a welcome improvement to the site and hopefully increase the amount of toilets that we have.

We hope to see you again soon.

Best Wishes, The Springbok Estates Team.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Very peaceful and clean site set in beautiful grounds. Visited the social club and had an enjoyable evening and the residents’ made us feel welcome.
You can hear the occasional small plane from the nearby airfield but infrequent and not intrusive. It was lovely listening to the owls. Only stayed one night but wished it was longer. Will definitely be returning.

From the manager: Dear Sue

We really appreciate that you have taken the time to leave us this lovely review.
The site is situated in a beautiful location and I love it that you was able to hear the owls on the estate - in late spring/summer the Nightingales visit and they nest in the small woodlands almost opposite the campsite - they sound amazing. We are very lucky and it makes up for the occasional plane that passes over.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best Wishes
The Springbok Estates Team

Local attractions

If you like a good garden visit on your break, you’ve come to the right spot – it won’t take long at all to reach the likes of the National Trust gardens at 121-acre Winkworth Arboretum (15 minutes’ drive) and Nymans (35 minutes), with woodlands, a lake and natural play areas. The colourful Ramster Gardens (15 minutes) and pretty Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens (35 minutes) are certainly worth adding to the list too. If you’ve brought the kids along, a trip to Fishers Farm Park (15 minutes) may well be on the cards for tractor rides, mini golf, treetop trails, pony rides and lots of animals to meet (plus indoor play areas in case of dodgy weather). You might also like to see the big birds at Surrey Hills Falconry (20 minutes) or hit the beach in Worthing (40 minutes). No kids in your party? A day at Denbies Wine Estate (35 minutes) might appeal instead then – you can sign up for tours and tastings here, and there’s a lovely restaurant too.
