Park setting

  • Friendly well-maintained park on the banks of Wooler Water
  • Lounge bar, restaurant and entertainment in peak season
  • A 10-minute uphill walk from the medieval market town of Wooler
Avoid the crowds crawling to the southwest coast and breeze your way to Riverside Country Park on the edge of the Northumberland National Park instead… This is a friendly, well-maintained site on the banks of Wooler Water, with plenty to appeal to the whole family: perhaps pottering around the riverbanks and stunning woodland, splashing about in the indoor swimming pool, baiting rods for a bit of fly fishing, or a few rounds of pool in the games room. The park has good essential amenities, including a lounge bar and restaurant with Sky Sports and BT Sports, a shop, launderette, play area and entertainment over peak season. It's also only 10 minutes' uphill walk away from the centre of Wooler, a medieval market town with restaurants, coffee shops and lots to browse around.

What customers say

Peaceful spot, friendly staff. Clean facilities, great pitches near Wooler. Families love the play areas. Facilities are a bit dated but the entertainment and bar are a hit, though a bit of a walk for some.

Liked Very clean, and tidy site.
Well maintained.
Level pitches.
Professional, helpful and friendly reception staff.

Disliked Looked forward to an evening meal on our last night.
When we reached the Bar and Grill, we were informed the only menu was pizzas , burgers and a child's menu. There was no chef.
Reluctantly we opted for a pepperoni pizza and fries.
It was tasty, but was over priced.
No dessert menu.

Liked Liked the overall pitch with the ducks
Had meal in bar and could not fault it generous portions as well and 15% discount was a real bonus for first night

Disliked Bit to close together
The entertainment being on the other side of road and only on till eight o clock the nights we were there then just music playing no atmosphere at all not worth walking over to especially when it was raining
The toilets were not the best floor was always wet in one bit it’s like tourers were an afterthought shame as it could be lovely if not so dated

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. We're delighted you enjoyed the setting and those generous bar portions—plus the first-night discount is always a welcome treat! We’re sorry to hear aspects of the layout, entertainment, and toilet facilities didn’t meet expectations. Your comments are valuable and will be shared with the team as we work towards meaningful improvements.

Liked Ample room on pitches, reception very polite and helpful, only a very short walk to complex for bar, restaurant and swimming, entertainment, short walk to village for bars, cafes and restaurants and shops, park very nice and simple, rubbish, waste, showers and laundry services altogether so easy to find, friendly duck and near a stream

Disliked None

Liked Touring field close to shower blocks.

Disliked Very big park. Mostly caravans. Too busy. When we got to out pitch, there was no hook up available. There are 4 hook ups per post and where we should have hooked up it was not numbered and all electric points were taken. After speaking to reception we plugged in to a different pitch number. Not very well organised.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your honest feedback Sue. We’re glad you appreciated the touring field’s location near the shower blocks. We're sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with hook-up availability and overall site organisation during your stay. Your comments are valued, and we'll pass them along to the team as we continue working to improve the layout and guest experience.

Local attractions

Trip-trap over the bridge from Riverside Country Park to Wooler, a pretty medieval market town with some alluring eateries, pubs and shops, and the ideal starting point for walks into the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park. Cycling, fishing, golfing and horse riding fans will also find rich pickings nearby. If you haven’t explored the Northumberland coastline before, you’re in for a treat. Expect atmospheric ancient edifices in spectacular surroundings, such as Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne; seaside villages like Seahouses, where you can jump aboard a sea safari boat to the Farne Islands; and miles and miles of nature reserves and wide sandy beaches. You can follow Hadrian’s Wall westbound from its start point in Wallsend, stopping off at Roman forts in scenic settings as you head in the direction of Carlisle; travel along peaceful country roads to explore the Scottish borders; or south to visit Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden, contemporary gardens with one of the world’s biggest treehouses. For city lights, hit the A1 for an easy ride to Newcastle and Gateshead, both buzzing with culture (try the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art or a gig at the Sage Concert Hall), museums, football, restaurants, nightlife and shops; or head further north for a day trip to the many-splendoured delights of Edinburgh.
