  • Adults-only park a couple of minutes' drive from the M5
  • Use as an overnight stopover or as a base for Cheltenham or Gloucester
  • Landscaped with mature shrubs, hedges and trees
Apart from a possible pitch on a tower block in the middle of a city, Briarfields Touring Park might be the most ‘leave your car at home’ site we’ve seen yet. Ditch the diesel guzzler or leave the motorhome on site and hitch a ride on one of the regular buses that pass right outside, leading to days’ worth of days out at Cheltenham (two miles away), Gloucester (six miles), Oxford, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. And if you’re getting around under your own steam, the friendly family team at Briarfields can pick you up from local public transport when you arrive. Even on your own feet you’ll reach most of what you need quickly from the park: a pub and a newsagent are within a few minutes’ walk; an Indian restaurant, KFC and supermarket less than 15 minutes – and a caravan sales and spares dealership is a mile and a half away, just in case. Although Briarfields is only a couple of minutes from the M5 (it’s often used by guests on their way north or south as an overnight stopover), it’s been rather cleverly designed so you can think you’re slap bang in the middle of the countryside: the landscaped and the accommodation areas are edged throughout with mature shrubs, hedges and trees. Amenities are equally well looked after: the centrally placed amenities block is cleaned twice a day and has free hot showers for ladies, gents and disabled guests. Swing into reception when you arrive at Briarfields for reams of info, leaflets and maps on the many (many) things to do a bus ride away: buses run every ten minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and another service to Oxford will give explorers about six hours in the city before heading back to Cheltenham. Briarfields is open all year round and is dog-friendly.

Liked Lovely campsite with easy access to the M5 the pitches are level and have privacy hedges
The check in was easy and the site has number plate recognition.
The toilets and showers are lovely and modern and kept clean and tidy i loved the piped music so much nicer than listening to your neighbours ablutions
The site has an information room with detailed maps of local walks and pubs direct from the site
The site provides free WiFi but we didn't use it as our own WiFi worked fine
We got the 94 bus to Gloucester direct from the site entrance which runs every 15 mins up until around midnight
We walked to Cheltenham which is around 3 miles along the cycle path
We will definitely visit again so handy for Cheltenham races and festivals

Disliked Not a dislike as such but due having easy access to the M5 there is some distant road noise ( motorbikes mainly) but it didn't spoil our stay and wouldn't stop us visiting again

Liked Not a lot .. sorry!!

Disliked Pitches very tight.. we are new to touring this year .. this is the 8th site we’ve used and it the smallest pitch we’ve been on .. only one chemical disposal site.. for all the caravans and motor home .. I had to queue.. ( never done this before! ) .. toilet shower block closed a 11:00 to 1:00.. for cleaning.. I forgot and walked over the threshold and was shouted at by a lady.. not polite at all .. to use the disabled one .. ok but there was a chair holding the door of this open .. so it wasn’t very clear.. Ony 2 of the shower had a bench and partition.. these were in use .. so used the other ones .. just a flimsy shower curtain which was far from water resistant.. the water came underneath it .. making the whole area wet .. and a stool .. which was soaked by the previous person.. .. .. we booked 2 nights left after 1 .. not done this before..

From the manager: Dear Caroline,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m truly sorry to hear that your stay with us didn’t meet your expectations, and it’s disappointing to learn that you chose to leave early.

We always do our very best to ensure guests have a positive experience and are here at reception should any concerns arise during a stay so it’s a real shame we didn’t have the opportunity to speak with you in person and try to resolve things at the time.

All guests are provided with a park plan upon arrival, where all amenities and facilities including our two fully equipped service areas are clearly marked. We're sorry if this wasn’t as clear to you at the time, as we always aim to help guests feel informed and settled from the start.

With regard to the washroom cleaning schedule. I understand that you entered the building during the cleaning period, past the clearly displayed closed signs, and encountered one of our team members mid-clean. That team member was Joy, who many of our guests know and frequently praise for her warmth, helpfulness, and genuinely friendly nature. I can say with absolute confidence that Joy would never intentionally raise her voice or speak to a guest in a rude manner - it’s simply not in her character. She will be very upset to read your comments, as she takes great pride in making everyone feel welcome and cared for during their stay.

Our team consistently receives praise for their friendliness and approachability, and I know they’ll be very upset to read your comments, as they work incredibly hard to make every guest feel welcome and looked after.

We wish you all the best on your future touring adventures.

Warm Regards,
Jo and The Briarfields Team

Liked Excellent site. Well run. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Good sized pitches with beech hedging between each one. I liked the music playing in the shower/toilet block. Excellent WiFi. Excellent information before and on arrival. Close to a supermarket and pub. Bus route just outside the entrance to Cheltenham and Gloucester The site is situated just off the A40 so traffic could be a problem but ear-plugs overnight worked well. Definitely stay again.

Camping pod (double)

Liked Really enjoyed our stay in the glamping pod. It had everything we needed such as plates, cutlery, a fridge, plug sockets, a bed and a little table. Simple but had all the essentials.

The site was quiet and well-kept, and the toilets were honestly much cleaner than I expected. Everything felt tidy and looked after.

Great little break overall. Would definitely come back.

Liked Excellent. The staff were very welcoming. Great showers, plenty of hot water. The toilet/shower block was kept very clean and tidy. J liked the music playing in the shower block. Easy access to Gloucester and Cheltenham. The pitches were level and a good size with beech hedging in between. Excellent wi-fi. Excellent information before arrival and on the day. Probably one of the best run sites we have been to. I only scored it 9 because the A40 was adjacent to the site, which made it very easy to access but noisy at night. This was helped by wearing ear-plugs at night. ASDA and a pub within walking distance (10 minutes away)

From the manager: Dear Julie,

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and found the site clean, welcoming, and well-equipped. It means a lot to the whole team to know that our efforts helped make your visit a positive one.

We’re especially glad you liked the music in the shower block we do try to add those little touches! And thank you for your understanding about the nearby road; we know it can be a bit of a trade-off with the easy access.

We really appreciate you taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback, and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Local attractions

Well. Where do we start? At least a day in Cheltenham first, we think – more if you’re coming to have a flutter at the racecourse just four miles away or jazzing it up at one of the many festivals. Catch the bus early to take in as much as poss: a morning coveting the art, furniture, crafts and jewellery at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, many created by Cotswold craftspeople inspired by William Morris, should build up an appetite for lunch and an afternoon of shopping around The Brewery, Bath Road and in the well-lined High Street. Harry Potter fans and the history-inclined will likely want an hour or two at medieval Gloucester Cathedral, used in the first and second films (see if you recognise the Cloisters). Away from Hogwarts, the cathedral has an award-winning exhibition centre, exhibitions and guided tours, and regular events and concerts including The Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest classical choral music festivals in the world. The Gloucester Docks and award-winning Waterways Museum is also a good afternoon out for heritage fans, while the more modern can find plenty to occupy them at the waterside retail park Gloucester Quays. Plunge into the countryside next for a couple of days in the Cotswolds, where you’ll find acres of things to do whatever your inclination such as punting around local villages like Chipping Camden and Bourton-on-the-Water, or visiting the many museums ranging from Roman to motoring times. Wildlife options abound too, particularly for birders, with the Cotswold Falconry Centre at the Batsford Arboretum, geese and swans at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water where twitchers can see rare birds from around the world, including England’s only group of king penguins. Finally, take a day or two in the ancient Forest of Dean (Harry Potter and co ended up here too), one of the oldest woodlands in the country, to go underground at the old mines of the Clearwell Caves, hire a bike to hit the forest tracks, or, more relaxingly, take the four and a half mile trip from Lydney to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway.
