  • Peaceful and family-friendly Glamorgan site bordering the River Taff
  • Castell Coch 10 minutes’ drive; Cardiff city centre 20 minutes
  • Communal kitchen and modern facilities; pub 20 minutes’ walk
Fancy a Glamorgan base with easy access to river fishing or wild swimming amid ancient woodland and peaceful valleys? Introducing Garth Glamping, 20 minutes’ drive from Cardiff city centre and bordering the River Taff at the foot of Garth Hill. Here you also have several fields – each framed by oak and beech – to explore, where you can exercise any four-legged pals and let the kids run around generally being kids. Helpful on-site facilities at this peaceful waterside spot include a pristine modern toilet block and shower enclosure a short stroll from the pitches, and a bottled water station for refilling your flasks and coolers. You'll also have use of a fridge/freezer, hob, kettle and gas barbecue in the communal kitchen area, where there’s a full set of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and washing-up supplies – in short, everything you need for whipping up a simple supper or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast. When you’re ready to explore, follow marked woodland trails or wander quiet country lanes in the surrounding farmland. Cycle hire can be arranged locally if you’re after two-wheeled adventures, but when you’d rather simply sink into a deckchair with a glass of local craft cider and listen for the tawny owls, well, that’s all good too. There’s a pub 20 minutes’ walk from the site gates, and another one, plus a few shops, in the village of Pentyrch (10 minutes’ drive).

Bell tent

Liked Fantastic weekend just had at Garth Glamping.
Very beautiful location and area.
I would highly recommend the site and we will definitely return!
Lovely atmosphere, clean, well kept and a child and dog friendly site.
The host, Jordan, was really friendly and helpful!
Honestly, a truly lovely lady to deal with, nothing was too much to ask!
My brother and family visited us for a couple of hours from Cardiff while we were staying and he was also blown away with the site and facilities.
One to keep an eye on for the future as it is very up and coming and they really do have a great eye for the little details which creates a memorable stay to return to!

Great pub / restaurant not far from the site, was also recommended to us by Jordan - again a very pleasant experience and the food was absolutely delicious!

Bell tent

Liked All of the facilities were to a grand standard, clean and updated style. The kitchen was brilliant and had everything you needed. The tent had everything you could want in there, they thought of everything.

Disliked The sofa bed was quite uncomfortable, like there was a pole in the middle

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Fantastic site, great facilities. Would happily come again.
My son particularly like your toilets, ‘best camping toilets ever!’.

Disliked Slight lack of comms to start, but we found the site! Maybe an email-able pdf stating the route in etc.
Train line is close and sometimes noisy, but that’s the only site comprise.

Bell tent

Liked The glamping tent, the area around is lovely. Based around hills it's so idyllic.
Playing area for children. Plenty of size.
A really neat kitchen area.
Little touches like, marshmallows and wood for a fire. Ear plugs and eye masks. Very nice touches of detail. Very very impressed.

Disliked 3 toilets and 3 showers for what could be very busy camping pitch. I think is not quite enough.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Jason, we’re so pleased you enjoyed the bell tent, the surroundings and all the little extras we provide for guests.

Regarding the facilities, we appreciate your feedback, although this is based on an assumption rather than your experience during your stay. You visited on a fully booked weekend, and with 3 showers and 3 toilets available we did not experience any significant queues or issues. We also deliberately limit camping numbers to a maximum of 10 pitches per night to ensure the site remains spacious, peaceful and that facilities are sufficient for all guests.

Thanks again for staying with us, and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Such a wonderful site with great facilities. The little kitchenette is a wonderful touch, with a fridge, kettle, tea coffee. Site is very well run and clean.
We travled for 6 hours and stayed 2 nights for the metallica gig and this place will be my first choice everytime going forward, if we travel back for more giga or holidays. I absolutely loved it!

Disliked Nothing at all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much, Keira! We’re thrilled you had such a great stay with us. It means the world to hear that after travelling 6 hours! We loved hosting you and are so pleased the little extras and facilities made a difference. We’ll have the kettle on ready for your next gig or South Wales adventure! 😊

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked great site, loved the kitchen area really well equipped and the sitting area.
lovely quiet setting but a handy wee short cut to the train station to go into cardiff etc.,fire pit hire was great and the facilities were spotless . was attending a festival in Cardiff castle and looks like it might be come an annual event so I know where ill be staying ,

Disliked only issue I saw was the path into the kitchen area there are a couple of deep holes and watched a car bottom out when the driver stopped to go to the toilet, oh and the trains going by ( only an issue when they decided to blow their horns )

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, David! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the peaceful setting, facilities and easy access into Cardiff.

Regarding the track, the route between the kitchen and toilet/shower block isn’t intended for vehicle use and is kept pedestrian-only to ensure the safety of our guests, particularly children playing on site. We appreciate the feedback and hope to welcome you back again soon! 😊🏕️🌿

Bell tent

Liked Great toilet/shower/kitchen facilities. Nice glamping pods, comfortable and handy location. Limited kids activities but the archery was a hit.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Chris! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the facilities, bell tent and convenient location, and it’s great to hear the archery was a hit with the children.

We’re hoping to add a dedicated play area in the future, but our aim has always been to offer a nature-based experience where children can enjoy the open space, river, wildlife and freedom of the farm. We hope to welcome you back again soon! 😊

Liked Everything! Fantastic facilities that were really well managed. Lovely communal kitchen with everything you could need. Great customer service. It’s also right next to the River Taff so we spent time keeping cool down there during the heatwave.

Local attractions

From your pitch, follow waymarked trails up the Garth (20 minutes’ walk) for views over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The 55-mile Taff Trail (for walkers and cyclists) passes close by too, so you can follow the scenic section to Pontypridd on largely traffic-free paths alongside the river. Heritage-lovers can tour the extraordinary Castell Coch (10 minutes’ drive), an ornate folly combining a medieval castle with Gothic-Victorian additions, or have a nose around Caerphilly Castle (15 minutes) with its drawbridges and battlements. Also well worth a visit is St Fagans National Museum of History (20 minutes), an open-air folk museum recreating Welsh life through historic buildings and crafts workshops. If the kids aren't taken with all that history, test their wits in themed escape games at Cardiff’s Puzzled Escape Rooms, or take them to Tenpin Cardiff Nantgarw (both 10 minutes) for bowling, arcade games and fast food in the diner. These also make great rainy day choices if the weather turns on you.
