  • Peaceful and family-friendly Glamorgan site bordering the River Taff
  • Castell Coch 10 minutes’ drive; Cardiff city centre 20 minutes
  • Communal kitchen and modern facilities; pub 20 minutes’ walk
Fancy a Glamorgan base with easy access to river fishing or wild swimming amid ancient woodland and peaceful valleys? Introducing Garth Glamping, 20 minutes’ drive from Cardiff city centre and bordering the River Taff at the foot of Garth Hill. Here you also have several fields – each framed by oak and beech – to explore, where you can exercise any four-legged pals and let the kids run around generally being kids. Helpful on-site facilities at this peaceful waterside spot include a pristine modern toilet block and shower enclosure a short stroll from the pitches, and a bottled water station for refilling your flasks and coolers. You'll also have use of a fridge/freezer, hob, kettle and gas barbecue in the communal kitchen area, where there’s a full set of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and washing-up supplies – in short, everything you need for whipping up a simple supper or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast. When you’re ready to explore, follow marked woodland trails or wander quiet country lanes in the surrounding farmland. Cycle hire can be arranged locally if you’re after two-wheeled adventures, but when you’d rather simply sink into a deckchair with a glass of local craft cider and listen for the tawny owls, well, that’s all good too. There’s a pub 20 minutes’ walk from the site gates, and another one, plus a few shops, in the village of Pentyrch (10 minutes’ drive).

What customers say

Garth Glamping: Peaceful spot by the Taff. Clean, kitted-out facilities (kitchen, showers). Friendly hosts, big pitches, nice touches. Train/road noise & tricky track noted, but tranquil and close to Cardiff. Recommended.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Immaculate toilets and showers. Great kitchen area. Beautiful scenery. Great service and incredible value for money. Loads of space. Feels remote but just 10 mins from Tesco’s etc. The glamping tents looked amazing. 10/10 highly recommended and we’ll definitely be going back.

Bell tent

Liked Where to start! We live close so this was a fun cycle up the Taff trail for the kids as a 12 birthday treat for our son and friends. We were on bikes so the roughness of the road did not bother us, in fact it added to the adventure. The boys were so excited to be there they jumped in the river in their pants!
The bell tent itself was super comfortable for 5 with lovely touches like the eye masks, earplugs and marshmallows.
The government alert went off just before we arrived and I panicked about what to do as we'd brought BBQ food but there was a gas stove provided and pans so no problem at all!
The big shelter is a great place to sit. As is the picnic bench outside.
The toilets and showers and kitchen area are really cute.
The kids made friends really quickly with others on the site.
Would never have thought of camping 6miles away, we chose this last minute as other plans had fallen through but it was serendipitous and I think we'll be back!

Bell tent

Liked Lovely bell tents, beautifully decorated inside, comfortable beds. Clean toilet facilities

Disliked Would be great if the bell tents had an electric hook up.
Road noise at night but ear plugs provided which blocked it out so lovely touch.

Bell tent

Liked Comfortable facilities, good amount of games for kids, a river really close to enjoy as a family, and close to the city and places to buy food and with a communal fridge/freezer available.

Disliked The beds were okay, but could be just a little bit better.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Everything is well thought out and of high quality (buildings, signage).

The location (lovely walks, near to supermarkets, local attractions)

The river (accessible)

Attention to detail (sanitary products! First aid box etc.)

Toilets (the best I’ve ever seen!!)

Immaculate Kitchen- kettle, fridge, pans, utensils

Games for children

Masses of space

Huge shelter for communal eating & lots of benches

Free fire pits (£5 for wood)

The list goes on… one of the best campsites I have ever stayed in!

Disliked The drive down to (& back up from) the site was very scary! It’s mostly loose gravel and there are many potholes. I don’t care about the odd scratch/ding but, from the sound of the clanging and scraping, I actually thought I’d seriously damaged the underside of my car a couple of times.

However, I appreciate that it would be a huge cost to rectify this and understand why they’ve had to wait to be able to make this investment.

Local attractions

From your pitch, follow waymarked trails up the Garth (20 minutes’ walk) for views over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The 55-mile Taff Trail (for walkers and cyclists) passes close by too, so you can follow the scenic section to Pontypridd on largely traffic-free paths alongside the river. Heritage-lovers can tour the extraordinary Castell Coch (10 minutes’ drive), an ornate folly combining a medieval castle with Gothic-Victorian additions, or have a nose around Caerphilly Castle (15 minutes) with its drawbridges and battlements. Also well worth a visit is St Fagans National Museum of History (20 minutes), an open-air folk museum recreating Welsh life through historic buildings and crafts workshops. If the kids aren't taken with all that history, test their wits in themed escape games at Cardiff’s Puzzled Escape Rooms, or take them to Tenpin Cardiff Nantgarw (both 10 minutes) for bowling, arcade games and fast food in the diner. These also make great rainy day choices if the weather turns on you.
