Branscombe Airfield and Camping is four miles from Sidmouth, Seaton and Beer, on the edge of Branscombe village and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on Lyme Bay. The site has its own private airstrip, home to a range of vintage and classic aircraft, including a Stearman PT-17 and a Zlín 526. The resident pilots and restoration team are happy to show guests the current lineup when they are available; you may also see occasional flight activity (when pilot availability and weather/ground conditions permit). Branscombe has plenty of wide open space with views of Devon countryside and distant sea views. There are refurbished toilets and free showers, as well as a modern utilities block, a washing-up area and a launderette with a washing machine and tumble dryer. There's also a safe and enclosed play area with plenty of space to play football and other outdoor activities, and a small indoor games room is also available. Foodies can head out to two pubs within a mile and a half – one within a short 20-minute stroll.

This well-loved spot boasts friendly owners, clean sites and great views. The runway's a hit! Basic but clean facilities, a dog field, games room & shop are bonuses. Easy for exploring, though the road in's a bit tight for some.

Liked Excellent site. Clean facilities and everything you needed. Dog park with even plenty of balls and even hand sanitizer. This site is well equipped. Lovely people will definitely be back 🙂

Liked We had such a lovely stay here and really enjoyed our time at the campsite. It was peaceful, clean, and well looked after, and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. It was a great place to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and spend some quality time together. We had a brilliant time and would happily come back again. Definitely worth a visit!

Liked Very friendly staff; really helpful. Good facilities kept spotlessly clean. Lovely quiet location with nice rural views. Generous sized pitches and grass well kept.
Excellent dog exercise area with basket of toys, water bowl, poo bags, poo bin & hand sanitizer. The owners are clearly camping and caravan owners themselves as they've thought of everything. We will be returning.

Liked Lovely friendly owners, immaculate clean toilets + lots of free hot showers, washing machine + dryer + clean washing up area. Two lads were practicing making coffees in their new coffee van so we were lucky to taste some free coffees , which were gorgeous too, spacious well kept pitches

Disliked We had pitch 23 which was in the shade which made the pitch very muddy , my fault I should have asked to change to a different pitch which wasnt muddy

Liked The site owners were very friendly and accommodating.
Nice hot showers & clean toilets.
Little shop with a good selection of essentials and a games room with a pool table in.
Nice safe little paddock to let your doggies run free and a kitchen area to wash up all your bits.
Watched a plan land on the flight path, which was novel.
Thoroughly loved this gem of a site and would highly recommend.

Route directions

There are a number of Branscombe signs on the A3052. Please only take the sign for Branscombe Bulstone. Look out for the small Branscombe Campsite & Airfield sign by the turning (the what3words is flicked.branched.blurts). After turning off the A3052, keep on the road until you see big, solid wooden gates with a sign for the site. Turn left just before the gates and then take the next right. You will then be at the site (What3words: branced.encoder.yield). Please note, entering the post code into your Satnav may take you to the wrong destination.

Stay at Branscombe at the beginning of August to frolic at the world-famous Sidmouth Folk Week, or mosey along to this part of Devon at any time of year to ramble and rockpool on Branscombe Mouth beach, be tempted by tasty treats in the thatched roof restaurant or take a boat out to land some mackerel and pollock for supper. Branscombe village has the Old Forge, the Old Bakery and the Norman St. Winifred Church to see, while the regency town of Sidmouth five miles to the west has a sauna, cinema, indoor pool, restaurants and gift shops as well as beaches for splashing and sunbathing. The fishing village of Beer is nearby: this sheltered beach is the spot for catching the sun’s rays, and if you don’t want to angle yourself from a boat to cast off, you can buy some fresh fish on the beach before getting on your mining helmet to explore the Beer Quarry Caves or climbing the hill (sans helmet) to the model railway exhibition and gardens at Pecorama. Cavers and trainspotters can also try the Kents Cavern Underground Caves and the South Devon Railway, both at Torquay. Devon day trips include browsing for lace in the market town of Honiton, taking a tram from Seaton along the River Axe for birdwatching at the estuary, fossil-hunting at Lyme Regis, history hunting at Exeter Cathedral and wandering the National Trust walks over Exmoor and Dartmoor. For the small fliers, Crealy Adventure Park, Paignton Zoo and Plymouth’s National Marine Aquarium should have them soaring.
