  • Site with its own private airstrip with restored aircraft
  • Within easy reach of Branscombe beach, Seaton and Beer
  • Safe and enclosed play area; games room; plenty of space for play
Branscombe Airfield and Camping is four miles from Sidmouth, Seaton and Beer, on the edge of Branscombe village and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on Lyme Bay. The site has its own private airstrip, home to a range of vintage and classic aircraft, including a Stearman PT-17 and a Zlín 526. The resident pilots and restoration team are happy to show guests the current lineup when they are available; you may also see occasional flight activity (when pilot availability and weather/ground conditions permit). Branscombe has plenty of wide open space with views of Devon countryside and distant sea views. There are refurbished toilets and free showers, as well as a modern utilities block, a washing-up area and a launderette with a washing machine and tumble dryer. There's also a safe and enclosed play area with plenty of space to play football and other outdoor activities, and a small indoor games room is also available. Foodies can head out to two pubs within a mile and a half – one within a short 20-minute stroll.

What customers say

Great spot! Spacious pitches, spotless facilities (hot showers!), dog run, awesome views & coast access. Friendly owners a big plus. Watch out for hard ground (need rock pegs!), narrow lanes & queues at busy times.

Very tranquil area.
We only stayed one night but wished we had longer.

Liked Location is great. Facilities are good though at peak times you can wait for the toilet, lovely dog field love having the ball flingers by the gate for people to use. Pizza on site on a friday night is a great addition! Watching the light aircraft coming in is definitely a highlight. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends and family.

Disliked We started with a large pitch which suited us as we had a car and a camper so we set our table and chairs between the two. After going exploring on Saturday came back to find another camper parked along side us even though we were on the only pitch there (pitches were numbered we were on 10 next door was 9 and 11). Not really an issue so much as made us sitting out with our dog on her long lead awkward and felt overlooked. Even eating dinner outside felt like we were being watched.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, It sounds like a camper decided they liked your pitch and popped themselves in it, we just wished you had told us when you came back into it and we could have moved them

Liked The calmness of the site, very chilled and we loved watching the planes land.

Disliked Didn't feel particularly child friendly, park isn't great. Also the family shower rooms were really hard to make use of because they were being used by lone adults which would have been fine if all the other showers were taken but they weren't. Could do with more toilets for the size of the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Its a shame you will not be coming back, as many families enjoy repeated stays with us. Its true the children's park is not large but we are not a commercial site that's why people come back to us and most of the families that come here encourage children to make friends or play games.

Liked Chris and Tracey were amazing worked so hard keeping the whole site spick and span .
Dog walking field is brilliant with supplied throwers and balls ,
When an aircraft comes in to land it is a joy to watch
The walks to the cliff top to branscombe village and even beer if your feeling adventurous are brilliant ,
But also the views and tranquility of the site makes it perfect

Disliked Nothing it comes to an end and we had to leave

Local attractions

Stay at Branscombe at the beginning of August to frolic at the world-famous Sidmouth Folk Week, or mosey along to this part of Devon at any time of year to ramble and rockpool on Branscombe Mouth beach, be tempted by tasty treats in the thatched roof restaurant or take a boat out to land some mackerel and pollock for supper. Branscombe village has the Old Forge, the Old Bakery and the Norman St. Winifred Church to see, while the regency town of Sidmouth five miles to the west has a sauna, cinema, indoor pool, restaurants and gift shops as well as beaches for splashing and sunbathing. The fishing village of Beer is nearby: this sheltered beach is the spot for catching the sun’s rays, and if you don’t want to angle yourself from a boat to cast off, you can buy some fresh fish on the beach before getting on your mining helmet to explore the Beer Quarry Caves or climbing the hill (sans helmet) to the model railway exhibition and gardens at Pecorama. Cavers and trainspotters can also try the Kents Cavern Underground Caves and the South Devon Railway, both at Torquay. Devon day trips include browsing for lace in the market town of Honiton, taking a tram from Seaton along the River Axe for birdwatching at the estuary, fossil-hunting at Lyme Regis, history hunting at Exeter Cathedral and wandering the National Trust walks over Exmoor and Dartmoor. For the small fliers, Crealy Adventure Park, Paignton Zoo and Plymouth’s National Marine Aquarium should have them soaring.
